Title: Forgo Wisdom Fandom: Sons of Liberty Pairing: Sam Adams/John Hancock Author's Notes: Thanks to Smittywing for the beta and the encouragement. You always make my stories infinitely better.
Title:Clothes Make the Man (Naked People Have Little or No Influence on Society) Fandom Sons of Liberty Pairing Sam Adams/John Hancock Author's Notes Thanks, as always, to Smittywing for the cheer leading, the beta, and most importantly- the idea. This fic wouldn't exist if you hadn't suggested it (and let me talk you into watching Sons of Liberty with me). Title comes from Mark Twain.
Title: A Piece of Silly Affection Fandom: Captain America, The Avengers (movies) Pairing: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes (Captain America/The Winter Soldier) Author's Notes: As always, a great many thanks to Smittywing for her cheerleading, her enthusiasm, and her beta skills. This story would be pretty awful without you. Secondly, this story can be blamed on the magnificent beard of Chris Evans and the gifs and pictures many a kind tumblr user has posted that have made it across my dash. It shouldn't be that hot, but it totally is. You can find me on tumblr here.
Title: Cynics are Simply Thwarted Romantics Fandom: Captain America, The Avengers (movies) Pairing: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes (Captain America/The Winter Soldier) Author's Notes: Title from The Princess Bride. Thanks, as always, to Smittywing for the encouragement, the awesomeness, and the beta. You make my writing so much better.

Yes, I am actually alive. And recently returned from Escapade! Where much fun was had and many friends were seen. And since I am returned from Escapade, I come bearing a vid rec. Now, most of the vids here are pretty great. But this particular one I feel resonates with most of us. Because most of us have a fannish partner who is always dragging us into some new fandom we Do Not Want.
(Unfortunately for smittywing.... I'm that partner in the relationship. Our relationship is literally: Reccea: SMITTY COME PLAY WITH ME Smittywing: FFS TEEN WOLF? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHY? I HATE MY LIFE. okay fine, at least there are hot dads. fml.)
It's been brought to my attention that I havent' posted here in... a year. Yeah, I suck. I'm still basically lurking everywhere. I have a tumblr but I really never post on it. (I like it for gifs, etc., but damn it's a pain in the ass to read fic at.)
I'm currently engaged in a serious Richard Armitage obsession. I watched The Hobbit, remembered Thorin as 'that other guy' from the like 2 Robin Hood episodes I'd seen (which was my same reaction to him in Captain America) and somehow that became "oh hey maybe I should watch 'North and South' and then 'his Vicar of Dibley episodes are on youtube' and then "... I need to find Robin Hood episodes NOW." And that's where I'm at. Plotting au threesome Robin Hood fic. I don't even know.
Work is still all consuming. Got a promotion in November 2011 and it's been long hours and thinking about things all night ever since. Which has translated into far less writing, but I'm trying to turn that around.
I'm also totally obsessing over The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. If anyone likes Pride and Prejudice, it's worth a look.
And that's basically the state of me. Went to Escapade, had fun as always, met new awesome people, saw familiar awesome people, had awesome Italian food. The usual. Going to Wondercon at the end of the month, probably going to buy all the comics. :)
I'm still hoping to work on the 2 Broke Girls/Avenger story but I've had bad writer's block about it. The next thing I post could actually be Robin Hood fic. Yay?
In your own space, share something non-fannish you are passionate about with your fannish friends. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Soccer Soccer's always been the big sport in my hourse. My sister, brother, and I all joined AYSO and had a blast, so whenever a game was on tv- no matter the team- I would tend to leave it on and half-watch while I was doing other things. As my sister and I traveled more and more, we tended to watch on purpose, because when you're in Italy there's no much on the tv you're going to understand besides BBC Worldnews and soccer. Soccer doesn't need a translator. :) So now I have season tickets to the LA Galaxy and am ridiculously obsessed. I dance around when we score and I shout in outrage when the refs are ridiculous asshats. And I love it. I love the flow of the game and the skills of the players, and the fact that it's not about the one good player but about how to team works together.
Shoes No really. I'm ridiculously passionate about shoes. I have a problem. I stalk the sales racks and make wishlists for the ones that are too expensive to justify. I definitely get a shopping high in general (have a bad day at work, go buy make up and feel better. It's a problem.) But no other shopping high even compares to shoes. I wear a new gorgeous pair and feel pleased and giddy most of the day. I feel faintly silly about it, but yes. I am passionate about shoes.
I feel like I should post here about some kind of cause or something worthwhile. And I mean I am passionate about government and animals and all sorts of things. But talking about shoes and soccer is just more fun. So there you go. :)
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
Hidden Kisses & Damned Presumptions By:Waldorf Fandom: Peter Pan Pairing: John Darling/Slightly Summary: They are all grown up, the Great War is finally over, and Slightly knows who the hidden kiss in the corner of John's mouth belongs to. Reason for reccing: Peter Pan was one of the first fairy tales that really captured my imagination and I always love seeing any new interpretation or adaptation. So when I stumbled across this little story I was filled with a ridiculous amount of glee. But the story itself is just a gem. Slightly knows what's going on and he knows all about John's hidden kiss. And John's trying not to get ahead of himself and presume what shouldn't be presumed. There's something delightfully understated about this story and I adore Slightly to an insane degree. He's a tactician and he has got this all figured out.
Dinner with Friends By:screamlet Fandom: 1776 Pairing: Adamses/Jeffersons Summary: Reason for reccing: 1776 fic is pretty rare to begin with and fic dealing with the interactions of these two couples is non-existent. But, more importantly, the dialogue is this story is pitch perfect. The knowing tones, the dry wit, the banter. It's all brilliant and brilliantly in character. I doubt I'll ever tire of how perfectly the characters are written and how exquisite their interactions are.
A Walk in the World By:seedee Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Dean Thomas/Seamus Finnegan Summary: In a perfect world, no one gets sick, you keep the girl, and wait for your best mate to come home. In Seamus's world, things work differently. Reason for reccing: I love the slow evolution of Seamus figuring his shit out. I love how Dean's loved him all along and even if he thinks Seamus isn't in it for the long haul, Dean still can't help but be a little stupid about it and about Seamus. I love the theme of coming together again, and of figuring out who you are and what you really need.
Still Time for You By:torakowalski Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Timothy McGee/Tony DiNozzo Summary: Modern Day High School AU. Reason for reccing: oh high school aus, how I do love thee. When thee is done correctly. And boy howdy is this. Tim and Tony are just fantastic (and so is Abby- still bowling with nuns even!). They're younger versions of themselves, naturally, but- like all good highschool aus- you can see the beginnings of the people they will become and you can see how they become those people. I love Tim's bravery and his determination to be himself and I love Tony trying to be smart about it but giving in anyway. And, okay, the end just makes me squeak with joy.
This is clearly proof that I will do whatever smittywing tells me is a good idea. I'm so weak.
So, there's this:
Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.
So here we go. This isn't normally something I feel very comfortable with but that's pretty much the point. I am stepping out of my comfort and saying "hey! look at me!"
2011 was a decent year. Nothing really to write home about and a lot to rant and rave about. But I'm not sad to see it go. (Though this is the second year in a row where I'm ill on New Years and I could really stand for that not to happen next time, ffs.)
Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year and that 2012 is awesome all around.
Title: Versus the Metaphorical Goatee (2/?) Fandom: 2 Broke Girls/The Avengers/Thor Pairings: Max/Caroline, Darcy/Clint, Steve/Tony(implied) Summary: Things don’t end well for people Thor looks at like they’re evil twins. Author's Notes: I think smittywing gets all the blame for this one. And the thanks for the beta. :)
In attempting to find places to post my WIP I discovered, to my extreme dismay, that there wasn't a 2 Broke Girls fic community. So I did something I have apparently never done in all my years on livejournal. I created a comm. And then smittywing created a comm on dreamwidth to cover our bases.

Alfred Hitchcock said, "If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach." If I wrote a story today, what would the readers immediately look for?
I keep forgetting to mention this, but smittywing is writing a fantastic Thor movie-verse fic about the fabulous Darcy Lewis and (her sidekick) Clint Barton. There's an internship, a kickass gym class, Tony Stark, and Darcy liking to lead. It's hilarious (as can be expected from Smitty) and just a hell of a lot of fun. It's a WIP, but don't worry. I'll make her finish it. XD
So, Federer picked Nadal up at the airport. I mean, sure, there were photographers that clearly got called ahead of time. But ESPN spent part of the morning talking about it and someone totally threw out the term "bromantic" and now my brain has slotted these two tennis rivals as BOYFRIENDS.
Damn it. I've been having a hard enough time holding off from searching out Beckham/Donavon rps.
If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've written and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?
Okay, actually, my tivo is apparently compatible with FIOS, but man it sure isn't acting like. Tomorrow there will be more contacting Support. Good times.
In other news, my wanky lazy boss switched departments, and then my easily overwhelmed and flaily boss retired. So I am the temporary boss. I have employees. One of whom is already failing on an epic scale. This? Should be interesting.
Title: Life is Pain (Anyone Who Says Differently Is Selling Something) Fandom: Inception Pairing: Arthur/Eames Summary: “I’m here to find out why Cobb’s subconscious decided to mutilate you.” Eames smiles beatifically. Rating: PG-13 (language, violence) Wordcount: 3700 Author's Notes: This is all smittywing's fault. As always. And the title obviously comes from The Princess Bride.
"Moral disapproval alone is an improper basis on which to deny rights to gay men and lesbians. The evidence shows conclusively that Proposition 8 enacts, without reason, a private moral view that same-sex couples are inferior to opposite-sex couples,"
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore. - John Adams
Title: The Minuets of Diplomacy Artist:ashlan Author:reccea Rating (both art/fic): PG-13 Genre/Pairing: AOS/Reboot | Comedy/Adventure | Gen, slight Spock/Uhura Word Count: 6300 Warnings: Language and some violence. Art Thumbnail: Fic Summary: "Fighting for someone's entertainment isn't the same as fighting for your life." McCoy thinks it's a pretty important distinction. Link to Art:Here
Notes: Written for the trekreversebang challenge - where the artists inspire the story. As always, I blame smittywing. Er. I mean, I thank smittywing for the awesome beta.
Pick one of my stories and I will tell you the first line of its sequel. Even if I was never actually planning to write a sequel. Even if it already has a sequel -- I'll give you the first line of another version of its sequel!
I'm catching up on The Daily Show. (Jon Stewart's reaction to Friday's little Q&A? My feelings exactly.) And let me say that every single time Brian Williams guests? I laugh like a little girl. I giggle and flail and occasionally seal clap.
I would so watch a daily Jon and Brian hour. They are made of awesome.
First off, did anyone else think Rihanna's Grammy dress looked like something out of an 80s sci-fi B movie? I genuinely like the girl and her music. I did not like the shoulder pads and hip pillows.
If you could have me write a fic specifically for you, what would it be like? Fandom, characters/pairing, genre, plot elements, kinks (if applicable)...what's your ideal fic from me?
My internet is touch and go due to a landline issue that hopefully will be resolved soon. I'm housesitting for people with functional internets so, if you got any long delayed responses to comments/feedback? Yeah, that'd be why.
In other news, I am doing a rewatch of Babylon 5. The first season? Really rough. It started to pick up towards the end but man that took a while. Second season was really pretty good and the third season is brilliant. I'm at the fourth season now and watching the threads start to come to fruition is awesome. Go intricate plotting!
Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
Title: Four Letter Words Fandom: Star Trek XI Rating: PG-13 Summary: You keep saying it, and one of these days you’ll actually mean it. Warnings: none Pairing: Kirk/McCoy Disclaimer: These guys and this universe do not belong to me and I make no money off of this story. Author's Notes: Thanks, as always, to [info]smittywing for the beta.
smittywing has returned from the land of-- okay no. She still doesn;'t have internet. But what she does have are ficlets. There's a hilarious Merlin one, a lovely little NCIS LA one, a really perfect Life one, and two - count them, two!- Star Trek XI Kirk/McCoy ones which are beyond awesome.
This was a very enjoyable story--I loved the slow, detailed pace and the upbeat characterizations. You managed to make a riveting story without puddles of angst between the boys, a truly remarkable…
I loved every word of this. Excellent characterizations, I loved the descriptions of their physical interactions throughout (leaning towards each other, bumping knees), but I think what impressed me…
