BOM Progress

Good morning, friends! Now that the Stay at Home Round Robin sew along is almost done, I thought I’d catch you up on what else has been happening in my quilt room. I have some BOM progress to share with you this morning.

At the beginning of this year, I decided it would be fun to join in on some sew alongs, since I had not participated in many the year before. I want to show you where I’m at with two of the blocks of the month that I have joined. The BOM progress I’ll show you today are for the Sewcialites 3 sew along and A Quilty Life’s 2026 Block of the Month. I am participating in one other BOM, which is the 2026 Monthly Color Challenge, but I’ll catch you up on that one in another post.

Sewcialites 3

Sewcialites 3 is actually a weekly QAL not a BOM, so I just want to clarify that. It is a free quilt along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop. There are three block sizes to choose from for this QAL – 3 inch, 6 inch, and 9 inch. I am making 6 inch blocks, and I’m using scraps of my Songbook fabric from Fancy That Design House. I used the Songbook fabric to make my Firm Foundation quilt and my Singing the Blues quilt. I am hoping I have enough leftover fabric to complete this QAL, so we’ll see how it goes. Here are the first four blocks.

Clockwise from the top, the blocks are 1) Idyllic; 2) Twinsies; 3) Cabin Life; and 4) Spring Wind. I’m finding these blocks to be very relaxing to stitch up, and the pace of the QAL is just right.

A Quilty Life 2026 BOM

I joined A Quilty Life’s BOM this year because I thought it looked easy and fun, and so far, I’ve been right. The blocks are simple, and a nice size at 12.5 inches unfinished. For my blocks, I have chosen to dive into some of my reproduction fabrics in an effort to try to use up some of that fabric that doesn’t get much attention any longer. I’d like to reduce my stash of those fabrics, so we’ll see how this goes.

For these blocks, I’m using my deep greens and reds, and I have to admit, I’m finding it challenging to work in these dark colors – haha! They are also difficult to photograph, so here’s another view that might help you see the fabrics better.

These blocks are 12.5 inches unfinished, so they stitch up quickly. This is also a free BOM, in case you are interested in joining in.

These two projects are up on my design wall, along with my SAHRR quilt, which has been quilted and is ready for binding. You’ll get to see that at the end of the month for the SAHRR Quilt Parade. I’ve also been doing some pattern testing, and I’m still working on the 2025 Summer Solstice blocks, so I’ll catch you up on those soon.

Thanks for stopping in to see my BOM progress! I hope you enjoy a day full of sewing and enjoying your favorite things!

  1. I’m glad the pace of these sew alongs and BOMs is working well for you, I love it when it works out so well. I hope to start quilting my SAHRR this afternoon. I better get moving to have it ready for the final link up!

That sewing room of yours sure has been buzzing with activity. The cabin life block is so cute and at 6 inches it must be a challenge. Thanks for sharing and happy sewing.

  3. Those are both pretty sets of blocks, Wendy! I love the fabric line you’re using in the Sewcialites blocks. The darker colors of the second set definitely don’t seem like your “style” these days, but it will be good to use them up. And I think they’ll make a warm and cozy Christmas quilt!

  4. You’ve got some fun blocks in the works with both quilt alongs. It’s a challenge to use up both left overs and fabrics that we’ve moved on from. Looks like you’ve done well with both.

  5. What fun you’ve been having! I love all your blocks, the fabrics are great on both. I am fascinated with the Twinsies block and downloaded the pattern to make (so I can have one more orphan block – lol!) And your SAHRR is already quilted – yay!

  6. I sure feel your pain in trying to get pics to show correctly. Love all your blocks so far. I’m looking forward to picking back up where I left off on my QAL (Primitive Gatherings) from last year that I’ve been saving to work on during the “duplex days”–it’s first on the list! You are def keeping busy with all those projects!

  7. These blocks are great. I love both your groups and the colors are just so much fun. Hope you do have enough to finish sewcialites, but at least 6″ blocks are not fabric hogs! I am thinking of doing sewcialites…as I like the blocks an playing along and seem to have collections of leftovers. After this week, I will make a few and see what happens!

  8. These blocks of the different projects are both perfect for stash and I love it to do it with the fabric on stock and not exactly with a complete bought bundle. If we have enough, it is so much fun to use. Don’t get me wrong, we started with a range that matches – than we have “scraps” – and out of this we can create the next beautiful quilt. Some additional basics – or a deep dive… and voilà – like you do so very perfect – a new quilt develops on your design wall. No, two !!! And yes to Helen…special language… BOM, Qual… SAHRR … or better, goose in the corner, flying geese… if a non quilter has to answer in a show a 1 million answer … it should be a question like that. Your blocks are all very very nice! 🙂
