A Friday Finish

I have a Friday finish to share with you today! It’s been ages since I’ve had a Friday finish, or at least written a post about one. This little quilt has been waiting to be finished. I thought I was going to gift it, but nope. I’m selfishly keeping it for myself. It’s already hanging in my living room!

The lights and time of day washed it out a bit for the photo. Here’s a better photo so you can see the colors in the quilt.

This little wall quilt is the Lilac Love pattern designed by Sandra of mmmQuilts. You can read more about the quilt and its construction in this post. I named this quilt Singing the Blues, only because I used so much blue in it. The quilt is made using leftover fabric from my Firm Foundation quilt. I finally brought this little quilt to Connie to have her quilt it. She did some amazing work.

Connie and I have a long friendship that first started at church, then golfing and quilting together. I am completely comfortable with leaving quilts with her and just telling her to have fun. For this quilt, she decided to use the dark blue thread in the blocks as well as the borders. I love the look!

Once I had it back from Connie, I realized I didn’t have enough of any of the fabrics for a binding, so I had to do some digging in my stash. I was able to find a red polka dot that blended well enough, so I used that (and forgot to snap a photo – sorry). The quilt is around 33 inches square.

I still haven’t used up all the Songbook fabrics (Fancy That Design House), so when I saw Sewcialites 3 pop up in my social media feed, I thought it would be a fun way to continue to use up the fabrics. Sewcialites 3 is hosted by Fat Quarter Shop. This is the Idyllic block, the first in the sew along. You can find more information on this free quilt along here (no affiliation). I have decided to make the 6″ blocks.

I’m happy to wrap up the week with a Friday finish, and I’m happy to have that quilt hanging where I can enjoy it.

I’m linking up today with Katie Mae Quilts for TGIFF today.

Happy Friday, all! Enjoy your weekend!

Wendy

  1. I love it! What a perfect spot to hang it. Connie did a beautiful job as always quilting it! 💗💗💗

  2. Congrats on a very pretty finish! It would be hard to give that one away. The red binding is a very nice frame. I’m finding it’s very hard to use up fabric lines. I have two quilts in the works from different fabric lines in hopes of using up both lines. Not happening, so I’ll need to find a couple of other projects to do that.

  3. What a beautiful quilt, and Connie’s quilting is fabulous. The colors are really pretty, and the red polka dot binding is perfect! I love that little niche and the wooden hanger for quilts.

  4. Nice! I clicked on the original post for this and was reminded of the ‘citronickel’ color choice. 😉 The addition of the dark blue quilting adds to your overall finish (kudos to your friend Connie). Your decision to keep this is part of the perks of being the prolific quilter that you are: many to gift, donate and keep as you see fit. Love the display niche, did your husband craft that?

  5. I noticed the blue thread for the quilting in the detail photos, but all I see from a distance is the wonderful texture. How wonderful to have such a great quilting partner in Connie. Congratulations on the beautiful finish and hooray for already having it hanging in a place you can enjoy it daily!

  6. That’s a beautiful wall quilt. Wow!! I’m always surprised at how different colors can look in different light situations.

  7. Congratulations on your finish — it is beautiful, and I am agreeing with you that it needed to stay at your house. Against that wood backdrop, it just glows. I also love the sparrow blocks in the corners (although they may be called something else). Lovely!

  8. Congrats on the finish, Wendy! This is a beautiful traditional quilt and the binding was a good choice to finish it! Love the kitty pin! 🙂

  9. Could only echo all comments. What to say first.. the wooden hanger corner is perfect or the quilt is perfect… or the quilting…?
Its good you keep it! Most important it makes you happy.
