dysentery
oh, joy. a migraine.

to all of them
Maybe this isn't pollen-related, because I really doubt allergies are going to make me feel like I cannot get warm. Especially given how warm it has been today and is right now in this room. Confession time: I have on pants, long-sleeves, and I actually turned the heat back on. BRRR.

I was creative today and made primroseburrows two icons. I also started working on a vid. Eep. Be afraid, be very afraid. I know Sam was. Actually, it was more like I was telling him what I had done, and he just stared and blinked, and then said "I have no idea what you're talking about." So there's one area of computers about which I know more. Mark the calendar!

My brain is scattered, I started this entry who knows how long ago.

I cannot get warm.

It was really cold this weekend, colder than expected, and paired with rain for 16 hours. Still, despite being home and in heat and so forth for hours now, I cannot get warm.

So I'm curled on the couchbed, watching West Wing and hoping to find myself getting warm.

I don't know why I can't get warm. I'm afraid that I'm catching something or another.

Hooray for West Wing.

dysentery
I have the heat turned up in here to 75°F or so - keep in mind that it is about 57°F outside and it is supposed to be 66°F for the high - and I have on a long-sleeved shirt over a short-sleeved shirt, and I cannot. stop. shivering.

I hate colds. :P

Sharpies
Now I have a migraine. No doubt thanks to whatever hit me yesterday. While I could probably sit through LLL with no problems, there's no way I can drive there. Fuck.

dysentery
I was restricting my diet somewhat today, in an attempt to give my digestive system a bit of a break.

Instead my body thought I was fasting or something, because it started detoxifying or something and zomg. This SUCKS. I can't even begin to describe how horrible I feel. It's not that I didn't have enough calories, because I did have plenty, but I guess it was the kind of food or something. I don't know. I feel so wretched. :(

dysentery
After GS, we went, as we are likely to do, to eat. I got the 'cajun' ribeye with an eye on the spices opening my respiratory system. I ordered Sprite on a whim... I usually get water when I'm at a restaurant. The Sprite actually cut through the Goo in my throat. The spices further did a number on all goo in all parts of the respiratory system. This is the best I've felt in weeks! Now I just need to find an easier way to get the spices, and a healthier way to acheive the goo-cutting-through of Sprite. It was good at the time, but it makes my stomach sort of... slosh. And my teeth feel gross.

Which is why I hate simplistic things about weight. "Toss out the soda and chips, and be a good example for your kids" or something. I don't drink soda... this is probably the first Sprite I've had in two or three months. We never buy it to have at home. We don't buy chips. It's been about a year since I last bought some as even an occasional treat, and it wasn't like we bought them often before that. If you were to inventory my kitchen, I would 'pass' muster for nutrition and weight loss purposes. Then you'd look at me and be like, you must be sneaking food! Nope. I just eat too much of the stuff I do eat. Anything can cause you to gain weight (or merely not lose excess weight) if you eat too much of it, no matter how good for you it is. Toss out the chips and soda. Pfft.

I wonder if it's possible to have the flu without having a fever. Other than the absence of a fever, the cold-thing we've all been fighting for the past two weeks feels exactly like the flu did last winter. There's just been zero fever. Not even a suggestion of a fever, which has made me discount the possibility... but I still wonder. It's a long time for a cold to be so predominant without any real sign of improvement. Of course, Gillian seems to confound me further by introducing vomiting to the picture, but she's always had an ultrasensitive gag reflex, so I think that she's just simply more prone to it. She's got zero appetite because of it, though, which means she has less ability to fight the whatever this is. Where's a magic wand when you need it?

The people that live in the rental across the street currently have a really loud, six-wheeled, diesel truck. They will start it and then it will just sit there, sometimes. Don't get me started on the environmental ramifications. Sometimes they do this relatively early, while we're still in bed. On Saturday morning around 6:30 am, I had bizarre dreams involving fleets of similar trucks. Some of them were raised, all of them were loud. Apparently in my dream, the neighbors were having a party and they told them to park in our yard. I was very upset, and told Sam to call the police. Now, I had been reading last week about eminent domain and property rights, so in my dream, Sam tells me that there's nothing we can do unless they leave the vehicles in place overnight, because of changes in the law. I got more and more angry and finally snapped, "Well, it may not be illegal, but it's definitely unneighborly!" The whole thing was bizarre.

Jacob just identified my icon. "That from Schoolhouse Rock! Schoolhouse Rock. Like on the tv."

I am trying to convince Sam that in addition to the Beco (which should be here any day!), we need a wrap. I mean, we have the Moby, but ha, that much stretchiness with Jacob's weight? That's been a laugh since five or six months. We have a water wrap, too, and a rebozo, but... yeah. I still don't get the diaper stash thing (though I'd like to get more wool whenever we have another one), but the carrier collection? Yeah, that I get...

4 February 2007, 8:59 pm - Modern Medicine
Johnny F' You
In the absence of knowledge of herbal or homeopathic remedies, not to mention not having ready access to either at this hour, I turn once more to the miracles of modern allopathic medicine.

In this case, the Publix version of Pepto. Which I took a mere eighteen minutes ago, and has allowed me to sit up comfortably, without thinking that I'm going to hurl. Whoohoo.

So I'm watching movies. Currently, Latter Days.

"You're going to come into my house and tell me God hates homosexuals?"

"And the French."

"God hates the French?"

"Everyone hates the French."

Sara - pink powder
My mother just called. Someone in another office at her work has been diagnosed with meningitis. Unfortunately, they don't know yet whether it's viral or bacterial meningitis. She's concerned about coming down here to visit until she's sure she's not carrying something, but from the way she described it, that could be awhile, as two of the people in her office have had 'close personal contact' or however it's specified with the sick person. So while she might not have been exposed to the person who is sick, she could be exposed to the person who was exposed to the person who is sick, or something like this. Personally, I think she's worrying a little too much - not everyone who is exposed to the virus or bacteria is going to develop meningitis, after all, and not everyone will be transmitted the infecting particles. Still, I admit I haven't made a huge study of meningitis and how it's spread.

Luckily, I know that my kids haven't been around my mom since she went back to work. Otherwise, I'd probably be mentally freaking out about the cold they both seem to have acquired. Jacob was sick first, though, by a good two days, so I'm thinking that it's probably from the high chair when we went out to eat on New Year's Day. Maybe I should have one of those seat covers after all. ;) The only bummer about it is that I can't take Gillian into the nursery at the Y with a cold. She seems to have it much worse than Jacob, and honestly, until she got sick too, I wasn't even sure Jacob had a cold rather than just a stuffy nose because of the dry heat. I know I go through winter with a nearly perpetually stuffy nose. Either way, I'm going to have to wait until Sam gets home tonight to go work out. :P

On the other hand, I usually can focus on reading more during the day, so maybe I'll get reading. I haven't read a single book in its entirety this whole year!
