// Cleaning Up Your Questions
We make recycling and cleanup simple and effective by providing solutions that protect waterways, reduce waste, and create lasting benefits for communities and wildlife.
Here, you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often, and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, we’re always ready to help.
The patented Litter Gitter is a tactical, small stream litter collection device used to intercept floating litter from stormwater runoff. Osprey Initiative utilizes these devices to intercept litter closer to the source, preventing its flow further downstream.
Not at all! In addition to the Litter Gitter, we offer the Osprey Litter Boom and Litter Interceptors for litter capture. Our approach isn’t “one-size-fits-all” — we recommend the device that best fits your specific needs. We also service and maintain litter collection devices from other manufacturers, so we can work with the equipment you already have in place.
The cost of our Litter Gitters and other litter collection devices depend on several factors, including the type of device, site conditions, installation requirements, and ongoing maintenance needs. Every location is unique, so we provide customized proposals after an on-site evaluation or consultation.
Every Litter Gitter contract includes data collection to help identify litter sources and develop the most effective solutions. These services are built into the cost of the device rental — no extra fees required.
Litter booms and interceptors are purchased by the client and can be paired with an Osprey Initiative maintenance agreement or can be managed by a local team of your choosing.
Protecting wildlife is always a top priority. We have worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on permitting approvals, which ensure our work poses no threat to local species. We also collaborate with local authorities in each project area to address concerns, answer questions, and confirm that our devices and practices are safe for the surrounding ecosystem.
Yes! Osprey Initiative offers consulting and project support to help communities and watersheds tackle litter problems — even without installing our devices.
We tailor our solutions to your specific needs, vision, and resources, which can include:
Whether you need one-time help or a comprehensive strategy, we can provide the tools and expertise to move your project forward.
Osprey Initiative’s data collection is designed to identify the sources of litter and the most effective solutions. We begin by categorizing the major types of litter we collect. Then we take it further, breaking items down by:
We can also customize our data collection to focus on specific concerns in your area — for example, tracking Styrofoam if that’s a major issue. This targeted information helps communities design environmental solutions that work for your challenges.
Absolutely. We partner with local Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) to recycle as much of what we collect as possible. Currently, 30–40% of the materials we remove are successfully recycled. This currently includes #1 Plastic Bottles, Aluminum Cans, and Glass Bottles. Our goal is to return valuable materials to the recycling stream and minimize waste sent to landfills.
Nope! We can scale our recycling services to fit your event — whether it’s a small community gathering, a local concert, or a large multi-day festival. From providing a few recycling bins to setting up staffed sorting stations, we’ll make sure your waste management plan matches your event’s size and needs.
We’re willing to work just about anywhere! Osprey Initiative has implemented projects across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. Check out our Site Map [link] to see where we’re active — and know that we’re always ready to explore new locations.
