Niteo Africa works alongside partner organizations in Uganda to establish libraries. We currently support 27 partners to run community, mobile, and school libraries across Uganda.

Elohim Development Association

Elohim Development Association is a Ugandan non-governmental organisation which exists to serve vulnerable children, youth, and minorities in Bombo, Uganda. Founded by Duncan Ahigika and his sister, Joan Ahigika, Elohim is one of Niteo’s oldest partners! Elohim is addressing the needs of the Bombo community through vocational skills training and access to a public library to further access to books and lifewide learning.

Restoring and Empowering Communities

Ms. Tegulwa Nageeba Hassan is the founder of Restoring and Empowering Communities. Based in Wakiso, Uganda, Nageeba opens her community library to students on weekends and school breaks. She runs leadership, peace-building, and book clubs in community and school settings. “We value our partnership with Niteo for the books that make our programs a reality. Books open doors to a multitude of things…books heal, comfort, empower, encourage, and strengthen a children’s agency for peaceful coexistence.”

Wakadogo School

The name 'Wakadogo' translates to 'for the little ones' in Swahili. Wakadogo School, the first school in Acoyo village, opened its doors in 2009 to educate some of the most marginalised children. Wakadogo's vision is to educate a new generation of children in northern Uganda by providing a quality education that enables them to shape a prosperous future for themselves. They believe that education is the most powerful and effective way to change lives.

David’s library

David Peter Omedo runs a simple community library in Danida, Jinja, Uganda. During the covid-19 pandemic David had to relocate his library, and he approached his mother, Florence, about the possibility of building a library on their property. Initially Florence told her son “No!” because she knew how many children were in their community and what a responsibility it would be to care for them. However, after thinking about it, she agreed to support the library as she shared “I want the children of my community to know how to hold a book and how to read.” We are grateful to Florence and her family for supporting the children of Danida through David’s library.

Help One Child Uganda

Help One Child-Uganda is a community based, non-denominational organization that was founded by Valerie Donaldson and Okello Peter to advocate for the underprivileged children and youth in Jinja, Uganda through educational support and valuable learning opportunities. Uplifting today’s youth as they endeavor to be the generation of positive change and building an academically sound, morally upright and self-sustaining community geared to triumphantly face the challenges of unemployment in the future.

Ask8 Centre for Skills Development

Ask8 Centre for Skills Development is a community based organization in the district of Kumi, Uganda. Founded in 2020, Ask8’s vision is to have an empowered and inspired generation of young citizens through providing opportunities to young people through targeted initiatives in education mentoring, social enterprise and leadership development. Ask8 was able to start their library through the support of Elohim Development Association. The first users of the library were two young women in May 2021!

Marles Children’s Foundation (MCF)

Marles Children’s Foundation (MCF) has a mission “to educate Ugandan children, giving them the proper nutrition and tools to develop into productive adults, have a better future and continue the cycle for future generations while saving the traditions and culture of the Ugandan people.” Niteo books supply their school library which is accessible to the students of MCF and the community on weekends. Emerging partner as of November 2022.

PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U)

PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U) is a community rooted children, youth and women focused Non-Governmental Organization.PELI-U utilizes a whole community approach and works through its community library and empowerment center. The community library serves as a one stop point through which children, youth, women and community members access services in education, skills development and health. Emerging partner as of 2023.

Plan for the Villages Organization

Plan for the Villages Organization is a community based organization which seeks to improve the social-economic wellbeing of at risk populations to ensure sustained livelihoods and peace. PLAVIO does this by working with communities to enhance self-sustainability, health, education, livelihoods and social-political wellbeing.

Read For Life Uganda

Read For Life Uganda has a vision of seeing the children of Ugandan reading and writing in their early years. Read For Life has developed a vibrant phonics curriculum and conducts teacher training in Gulu and beyond. In addition to this, Read For Life has a community library and oversees a mobile library systems between 12+ schools.

Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative

Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative oversees two community libraries in the Gulu and Kiryandongo Districts, Uganda.

Kataka Ministries

Kataka Ministries was founded by Paul Kasango and has a vision of empowering women and children through providing social-economic support, Bible studies, sewing training, and reading programs.

Whispers of Love Foundation

The Children‘s Community Library of the Whispers of Love Foundation is a community based, nongovernmental organisation of Social Work, that was founded by two twin sisters, Esther and Janet, in Uganda. Whispers of Love provides a library and educational program to 34 children, who would otherwise have no opportunity for education. They are orphans or children whose mothers cannot afford school for their children. In addition, the children also receive lunch and basic medical care at our place.

Hope Alive

Hope Alive supports families and communities by strengthening the capacities of educators and schools through training, special programs and access to educational resources. Their mobile library program provides students at four schools (over 1,200 students) with access to books, literacy instruction and activities, and teacher support.

Access Knowledge Africa

AKA is a grassroots NGO whose purpose is to provide people in E.Africa with access to books, computers and training, encourage them as they increase their knowledge and empower them to use what they have learned to make positive changes in their lives

Funky Totoz Junior School

FUNKY TOTOZ is a centre of excellence providing Kindergarten/Nursery, child care and child play services to young children

Project One Million

Project One Million is a youth-led organisation founded in 2023, committed to empowering underserved communities through accessible, high-quality education. Our mission is to create pathways to knowledge, opportunities, and essential resources, fostering a more equitable society for current and future generations. Our initiatives include reading clubs, academic empowerment workshops, menstrual equity sensitization and vocational skills children's camp

Read Loud Read Proud

Read Loud Read Proud is an open access community library located in rural western Uganda that brings together dedicated teachers, community members, volunteers and eager children working towards improving the literacy of the community
