What We Do

Local support for a fairer, greener future in North East Scotland
Bullers O'Buchan

The network of 24 Scottish Climate Action Hubs provides vital support for communities across the whole of Scotland. Here in the North East, we, NESCAN Hub have been empowering local groups to lead the way in tackling the climate emergency since 2021.

From Aberdeen to Banff, Fraserburgh to Keith, our regional hub helps connect people, coordinate efforts, share knowledge, and drive meaningful change at the local level.

What we do

Build local climate awareness

We help people across the North East understand the climate emergency—and what we can all do about it. Whether it’s through community events, workshops, or school programmes, we’re making climate action locally relevant and accessible. We value and encourage every small action people take as together these have a huge impact.

Foster local networks

We bring together community groups, local authorities, businesses, and third-sector organisations to collaborate and share ideas— because no one can solve the climate crisis alone.

Support community led projects

Got an idea for a local climate project? We’re here to help you get it off the ground—or scale up what you’re already doing. From sustainable transport to community growing spaces, we offer advice and hands-on support.

Unlock funding opportunities

We provide direct funding for small ‘SEED’ projects, and work with partners on larger funding opportunities such as LEAF with Aberdeen City Council and JTPB with ACVO, AVA, and TSiMoray. Our team also guides individuals and community groups to other funding opportunities and connect you with the right sources of support—whether it’s for small grants or major investment for transformational projects.

Strengthen community resilience

We support long-term planning around key issues like local energy, food security, and emergency response, ensuring that our communities can thrive in a changing climate.

Champion a Just Transition

As the North East transitions from oil and gas to renewable energy and sustainable industries, we work to ensure that communities are not left behind. Climate action must also mean social and economic justice.

Promote wellbeing & community wealth

We help embed the principles of wellbeing economies into local plans, supporting initiatives that create jobs, retain wealth locally, and improve community health and cohesion.

Encourage peer-to-peer learning

Our Hub supports a culture of open sharing—so if something works in Udny, Huntly or Stonehaven, others can learn from it. We create spaces where people swap experience, insights, and inspiration.

Want to get involved?

Whether you’re an individual, a youth group, a local business, or just a group of neighbours with a great idea, we’re here to support you and have so many ways for you to get involved. From free festivals to climate literacy, the Just Transition Communities Project to Climate Week North East, there is something for everyone.
