Overview
The Neuro-Power Program is a specialized group exercise program designed to support the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of people living with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Classes focus on improving balance, strength, mobility, and overall confidence in a supportive community setting.
The program runs year-round and is offered in four sessions annually. Classes are offered Monday through Friday, with at least one class available each day. The program is included at no additional cost for members of the Merrimack Valley YMCA at the Andover/North Andover Branch.
Pre-testing and registration is required.

Class Descriptions
Neuro-Power Boxing
Mondays & Wednesdays | 2:00 PM
Instructors: Pam (Mon), Catherine & Dawn (Wed)
This energetic, full-body class combines non-contact boxing movements with functional fitness exercises to support cardiovascular health, balance, agility, coordination, and strength. Designed to challenge both body and mind, Neuro-Power Boxing helps participants build confidence, endurance, and everyday movement skills in a motivating and supportive environment.
Parkinson’s Cycling & Chair Yoga
Tuesdays & Thursdays | 1:00 PM
Instructor: Ed Soloway
This 75-minute class blends safe, guided cardiovascular cycling with calming chair yoga. Participants begin with 30 minutes of cycling to support heart health and stamina, followed by chair yoga focused on core strength, balance, flexibility, breathing, and relaxation. Led by Ed Soloway, a dual-certified Parkinson’s cycling instructor, this class emphasizes safety, mindfulness, and steady progress.
Parkinson’s Seated Qi Gong

Instructor: Kathy
Led by our experienced Tai Chi instructor, this seated Qi Gong class uses gentle upper-body movements paired with intentional breathing. The practice promotes coordination, improved breathing capacity, relaxation, and stress management, offering a calming and restorative experience for both body and mind.
Parkinson’s Strength & Stretch
Fridays | 12:30 PM
Instructor: Mike
This adaptable class can be done seated or standing and focuses on building strength in both the upper and lower body. Exercises also support balance, flexibility, and functional movement, helping participants maintain independence and confidence in daily activities.
Ping Pong for Parkinson’s
Fridays | 1:30 PM
Instructor: Greg
Join a fun, social session of table tennis designed to support hand-eye coordination, reaction time, and focus. Hosted by Greg, this class encourages movement, friendly competition, and connection—while having a great time with a supportive group.

When does the program run?
The program runs year-round and is offered in four sessions annually. Each session lasts between 8 and 14 weeks, with a one- to two-week break between sessions. Classes run Monday to Friday, with at least one class offered each day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
How can I start taking classes?
To get started, participants complete a brief information packet, followed by an initial balance assessment with Paul Discipio. This assessment helps ensure a safe and supportive experience as participants begin the program. After the assessment, participants may attend any Neuro-Power classes. Some instructors may recommend observing or partially participating during the first class to support a comfortable transition.

What is the cost?
Because of the generosity of our donors, the Neuro Power program is included free with your membership to the Merrimack Valley YMCA. Non-members may participate if space permits; charges will be based on the length of the session.
