THIS CHEERED ME A BIT…

A new Holyrood poll has predicted a huge 18-seat pro-independence majority as Scottish Labour support plummets.

With a little more than a month to go until May 7, the survey of more than 2100 people by Lord Ashcroft and published in Holyrood Magazine, also makes for good reading for John Swinney with the SNP predicted to achieve a majority.

On the constituency vote, the SNP polled at a dominant 39%, with Reform UK in second on 14%. Scottish Labour polled in third at 12%, followed by the Scottish Greens on 11%, the Scottish Conservatives on 10% and Lib Dems on 9%.

On the regional list vote, the SNP scored 31%, while the Scottish Greens came second on 17%. Reform UK polled at 15% while Scottish Labour again polled at 12%. The Scottish Tories are on 10% and Scottish Lib Dems on 9%.

The SNP are projected to win 65 seats, with the Scottish Greens in second on 18 – meaning a huge pro-independence majority.

Reform UK are on 17 in third place, with Scottish Labour in fourth on 13. The Tories and Lib Dems are projected to return 8 MSPs each.

Commenting on the results, leading pollster Professor John Curtice told the magazine: “Most voters are likely to back a party whose constitutional preference aligns with their own. That leaves former SNP supporters with few options even if they are unhappy with the SNP’s record in government.

“Disgruntled pro-Union Labour supporters in contrast have plenty of Unionist options between which to choose – and as many as one in three of those who backed the party in 2024 say they are most likely now to support one of the Conservatives, the Lib Dems, or Reform.”

He added: “Support for the party (SNP) is well down on the last Holyrood election in 2021. However, the criticism of their record among their former supporters pales into insignificance compared with the fact that two-thirds of those who voted Labour in 2024 believe that the UK Government has a poor record in government. That – and Keir Starmer’s unpopularity – hang like an albatross around Anas Sarwar’s neck.”

So, if the SNP were on 65 seats and the Green were on 18, that would mean both the government and the leading opposition party would be pro independence.

It is worth remembering that this is but one poll and, with the Reform UK Company Limited just one seat behind the Greens… and the election a month off, it would be premature to celebrate.

It is, however, cheering.

WHAT ARE THE “PROMISES” OF REFORM UK, LIMITED?

If they win the election in May

Try not to swoon, ladies!

I’m not sure that they can actually do this, but they have pledged to cut the size of the Scottish Parliament, aligning the seats with those used in parliament in London, reducing the representation in Holyrood to 113. This is something that I’m pretty sure would be the business of the London parliament.

They will also regularly review its devolved powers (again, I’m thinking that that would be the prerogative of London) if they win the Holyrood elections in May, which I’d say is unlikely, but not impossible.

Their manifesto makes promises to repeal SNP “bad laws”. Presumably these would be laws passed by parliament which aren’t hard right wing in nature, care for children, older people and those who are poorer, sicker and less able.

They would also, they say, bring in changes to the way councils are funded, making them raise their own money rather than have a grant from parliament. Obviously this would involve a substantial increase in council tax.

The manifesto also rules out a further referendum for at least 10 years. Something else which I suspect would not be up to them, but to their masters in London.

They have “promised” to get rid of all “green” policies and make oil and gas the main source of energy.

Amazingly (or not amazingly) they plan to scrap public enquiries!!! Wouldn’t want anyone enquiring into them.

They want to bring the income tax more in line with England’s. And get rid of the two top bands of council tax that Scotland has and England doesn’t.

This is not surprising given that Farage’s awful man in Scotland has a rather expensive house on the banks of Loch Lomond. They will also phase out Land and Buildings Transaction Tax – the levy paid when purchasing second or subsequent homes, to make it cheaper to have more than one home. Again, this would be to the advantage of Offord.

So, something for everyone… or at least every millionaire.

LYING LIPS COME BACK TO BITE ANAS SARWAR

BUT

Guys, you chose to tie yourselves to this bunch of hopeless, right-wing, uncaring idiots whose first answer to a shortfall in money was not to reach for billionaires or the people who cheated us out of billions during COVID, but to smack the poor and the elderly in the face… after promising to save us £1000 each and make our lives better… and you expected the people of Dundee to vote for you?

And they are not teething problems.

I see the royals can afford to have a lamps on during the day.

You lot (and you are all one, because Lady Baillie and Sarwar were behind Sir Starmer and Reeves all the way) have the political antennae of amoebae.

You spat at the people who possibly would vote for you and, arrogant as you are, when some of your more decent MPs didn’t go along with you, you suspended them from the party.

If you want the people of Dundee to vote for you, you are going to have to be a lot less Tory and a bit more socialist…you know like a party of LABOUR. Do you know when Dundee last voted Tory?

Jeeez, what do you think we are in Dundee? Morons?
