The Storm #fires #earthquakes #destruction #hope

Just overhead

trees are torn

ground heaves

we battle worn

smoke’s  fires billow

grey cast horizon

hell’s gates open

beckoning all

can’t hear truth

our heads are ringing

in a ditch

no one’s helping

but listen

whippoorwill’s call

silent darkness

there’s a song

hope in the cross

it never fails

 savior hung there

He came alive

offers eternal life

sky opens to true light

just grasp

his nail scarred hands

and LIVE

All you need to do is turn on the news for five minutes and read of destruction in your land and in other places. What are you to do? Can you put out the fires? Can you stop an earthquake? What about senseless killing of children and women?

You have  no control over these things which can easily leave to a tunnel of hopelessness or it can drop you on your knees in conversation with the one who can remedy these atrocities – God.

O Little Town #MerryChristmas

The days were dark

and frightful cold.

A harsh regime

or so I’m told

They feared the worst

hoped for the best

how so like now

no time to rest

but they forged on

with hearts so true

O Bethlehem

what do we do?

For these are times

unsure at best

we pray we beg

yes, give us rest

disease and hate

rule in our day

how so like centuries

so far away

This hope we trust

is there for all

an animal’s trough

a dirty stall

a savior for

each, every, ALL

O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to men on earth

How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may his His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel.

Set Free #Easter

Easter Lily

Beckons white Easter Lily

pure and undamaged by life

something I can never be

I am shadowed beyond the light

*

Future seeks to make me clean

hands that were nail driven

into my heart has seen

not judged I’m forgiven

*

from sin’s wrongs righted

my savior the lamb

and I unblighted

like the lily I am

*

to dance free in life

swing into the wind

with birds take joy in flight

as the willow I bend

Today is Easter a day to be reminded that we are bought with a precious price – that of the life of Jesus. The Son of God takes our sin upon himself that we might be free. In a world so fraught with fear, anger, even terror, it is nice to have this lamb to burrow into his wooly coat of peace and protection.

May you know the freedom of forgiveness this day – Happy Easter!

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. ” Isaiah 42:16

“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Rev 7:17

“But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.”

Psalm 130:4

What Home??? (#homeless #poetry)

I’m a tall brunette

what do I do?

I’m looking for work

in  worn leather shoes

***

Each day at nine

I come from my home

a neat cottage , not mine

I’m the one on the roam

***

I eat at friends shower some too

darkness draws  nigh

it’s me in the car

kitty clothes and I

***

you’d look down your nose

yes you would if you knew

I’m homeless I know

what’s it to you?

***

I have to breathe air

the way that I can

I don’t have money to pay

for  my meals of spam

***

I scrimp and I save

no there’s never too much

my cat, car and I

we live life and such

There is real irony in this picture. Why? The car I lived in as a homeless young woman was this exact model car. My car did have a window. People don’t always realize there are homeless who live off the system and there are those striving to live. I never held a sign saying “homeless”. I had a job. The money wasn’t enough to pay my college and car loans and pay rent; food was a luxury. People were kind to me – maybe because I wasn’t dirty or scraggly. I understand the plight of these sufferers. It is a painful, empty, looking in at the world  from the outside,  kind of existence. Then I am reminded, my Saviour understood a suffering far greater.
