October

by Robert Frost (1874-1963)

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
To-morrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call.
To-morrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow,
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know;
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away;
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.

Catch me as I fall
released from natures embrace
begin death’s spiral
*
Catch me as I fall
dance with October’s child
at least with your eyes
*
catch me as I fall
ripened fruit picked from the vine
tossed into ashes

The objective of this carpe diem haiku “exercise” was to distill the words of Robert Frost into haiku. It’s hard to distill a sentiment without using the originator’s words. These are the words that Frost inspired.

Beautiful Decay #poetry #nature #photography

guilded leaf

Color extinguished
During your fall
Short  lived in ecstasy
Sprung forth withal

You rediscovered
In a pile of leaves
Unique  lacy shape
Beauty your dream

Who’d ever thought
At the end of life’s day
 loveliness captured
In a Christmas display
