Death to Jury Duty

Well, that wasn't on the top of my list of things to do the day after digging out from a massive storm. I just spent 7 hours sitting around a packed courthouse waiting for his majesty the judge to call us. When he finally did call us for the trial, I was at least able to get excused because I have a test coming up next week that I can't miss. I swear, the whole system needs to be overhauled. How do they even justify drafting jurors like this? Doesn't the US constitution ban involuntary servitude? It's only never been overruled because the justice system serves the interests of the government, and this is easier on them. *Sigh* At least now I'm supposed to not be called again for three years, but I doubt they keep records that long.

And I didn't even get to go through my whole "crazy" routine that I had planned to get excused. Talk about a waste of time........

WOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it! After three and a half years of hard work, daily commutes, and dealing with surly registration clerks who seemed to misplace every document I gave them and then say "Well, that's your problem, not ours, now ain't it?", I made it! I officialy have 121 credits and have finished my Bachelor of Arts degree program! And since I finished half a semester ahead of schedule, I now have time to spend writing and trying to get an internship at a comic book company in the 8 months before I start grad school! This is a good day. Now, having survived the massive rainstorm that's pounding my area and nearly kept me from getting to my last final, I am safe in the mall less than 20 minutes from home, and I'm off to go have lunch at the barbecue joint and knock back a few in celebration! As I said, good day. :D

*PHEW!*

Well, I FINALLY finished my first 3-chapter fanfiction. The third chapter is up at the list I now own, and I hope everyone enjoys it(assuming they still remember it LOL). It was an interesting experiment, but I doubt I'll do a serial like this in the future. My schedule is just too irregular, and I hate the feeling of leaving my readers hanging. If I do a longer fic as a one-shot, it may take a long time to finish it, but at least my fans won't be tortured with cliffhangers like this. Either way, I'm proud that I finally finished it. I always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to write fanfic, but I was never sure I could in the traditional format. Now I know I can. :D

YAHOO!!!!!!! :D

I just posted the first chapter of my new fanfiction on one of my Yahoo groups! I've never been able to sit down and write fanfiction before, so I just hope people like it. I think it's pretty good, though, so I'm proud of myself. It's a Superman/Supergirl fic that's been percolating in my mind for several weeks now. As long as DC keeps on publishing comics with Kara in it, I should continue to be inspired. I'm not promising a sequel yet(I should probably publish the other chapters first, haha!), but I'm not saying no either. I definitely had fun with this one! And it was great to be able to write Kara again. I've missed her since my last Rpg ended, and she didn't really fit into my new one. So I'm happy right now :D

Gaaahhh.........

I am seriously starting to think DC is run by brain-damaged chimps. At least that's what their creative decisions as of late seem to indicate. This will spoil the last few chapters of "Batman: War Games" "Superman/Batman" "Teen Titans" "Green Arrow" and "Identity Crisis", so be warned.

Spoiler's dead. Now, a few months ago I wasn't the biggest fan of the character, with the whole "Girl Robin" fiasco that DC got themselves into. We all know that was one of the dumbest moves they've ever made. Spoiler might have been a good character in her own right, but she was never Robin-level, and the fans knew it. No wonder they revolted and dropped the books en masse until DC relented after only 3 issues, having Batman fire her. But DC apparently thought that wasn't enough for the fans, so they decided to appease them with blood. So "War Games" was essentially an orgy of indignities for Spoiler to suffer, having her tortured and beaten repeatedly by the villain, Black Mask, until she finally succumbed to her injuries with Batman by her side as she died. Tim didn't even get to say goodbye. So that's a great supporting character gone thanks to DC's mismanagement. I went back and read some of her old stories in "Robin", and I remembered how much I loved the character before DC ruined her.

This, combined with the death of Tim's father in Identity Crisis #5, is of course going to send Tim into a spiral of grief. Wizard magazine has already said that Bruce is going to try to adopt him now that he's an orphan, and that'll be interesting, but I don't want to see Tim become a mini-Batman, which is incidentally exactly what happens in the latest issue of "Teen Titans", which sends the titans into their future to meet their future selves. It's like "How long is Forever", only sucky. This hasn't been a good month for DC's young female heroes in general, actually. First they apparently "kill" Supergirl over in Superman/Batman(and my previous threat on that still stands, by the way), then Mia in Green Arrow is diagnosed with HIV(and she's dead 10 years in the future, according to TT). Pretty much the only young female hero not suffering some indignity this month is the new Aquagirl over in "aquaman", but DC's probably got something planned for her too. Scratch that, it's not brain-damaged chimps writing the comics, it's MYSOGINISTIC brain-damaged chimps. -_-'

One of those days........

Gah. I've just returned from the city after one of the most stressful days in the last few months. There were no major crises or anthing like that, but it just seemed like every little thing that could go wrong, did.

1. My train got stuck in the tunnel for 30 minutes when I arrived in the city.

2. My favorite Chinese place had a supply problem and had to close for today.

3. My afternoon class, which is dependably short, ran long today because my teacher decided to go on an hour-long political harangue that had nothing to do with the class.

4. My train leaving the city was delayed 20 minutes, causing me to miss my connecting bus.

5. On said stupid late train, I ran into an old friend from High School. I had to listen to an hour-long political rant from HER on why I should vote for Kerry. Now, I'm still undecided, and I have a lot of problems with Bush. but her main argument was that "If Bush wins again you'll be drafted". Okay, first of all, Bush has said he doesn't support the draft. I'm not saying I believe him fully, but it shouldn't be put out there as fact! I'm going to decide based on the issues, not based on scare tactics. And If I DO vote for Bush, it'll be because I'm pissed at Kerry for using scare tactics. Oh, and as for the draft, I'm a bisexual with a heart murmur who's prone to panic attacks, severe allergic reactions, and has some mild hearing problems. Yeah, I'm sure Uncle Sam can't wait to recruit my ass. Feh.

So, after that fun-filled train ride, I had to walk a mile to the mall instead of taking a 5 minute bus ride. At least I was able to get on and post in my RPG, but I don't have time to intro my new chara today. At least tomorrow I have a midterm, so I know I'll be out early and have the whole day to myself. Yay for tests! I can't believe I just said that.

Congratulations, DC

You finally did it, you SOBs. You made me drop a book. I've put up with so much shit from you over the years. Your treatment of supergirl, your allowing the Superman and Batman titles to descend into mediocrity, and your cancelation of the entire Young Justice line except for Robin, which you then proceeded to ruin with the two worst writers you have going for you. But now you've done it. I was worried when you put Judd Winick on Green Arrow. The man is a brilliant writer, and "Pedro and Me" was one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. But even as a guy for who these issues are very important, I still read comics to escape. I don't want to read about gripping social issues in the pages of my favorite comics.

And I certainly don't want to see one of my favorite supporting characters be diagnosed with HIV.

Yep, Mia, Green Arrow's teen sidekick, and the new Speedy(In yet another stupid DC gender warp), is HIV positive. My problem isn't with this, per se. It does make sense. She was a teen prostitute, and that's a high risk activity. But I get that Judd Winick feels very strongly about this issue. I would be willing to see it through to its conclusion.

Except it'll never see it's conclusion. Because next year, there will probably be yet another "SHOCKING CROSSOVER EVENT!!!!!!!!!!!" where all the hack writers you put on it will be looking for cannon fodder to kill off. And who's the first person they'll look for? The girl with HIV. "Because, after all, she's going to die anyway! Might as well have her make a noble sacrifice!" That's the way DC has always functioned. I wouldn't mind seeing this story being done by a company that had a clue. But you don't, and you never will. So thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to watch this story play out, with a character I love, knowing that you're just going to use her and throw her away.

Oh, and if Supergirl is really dead, I swear to god I'll drop every book you publish.

Woohoo!

I am less than three days away from finishing my latest script! Go me!!!!!

Current mood: Giddy
