The United States is proud to support Libya in its efforts to safeguard antiquities and other Libyan cultural objects from looting, vandalism, and other threats. The United States has supported a series of risk reduction training workshops for safeguarding Libyan museum collections, archives, historic buildings, and archaeological sites; the publication of the ICOM Emergency Red List of Libyan Cultural Objects at Risk; and, in cooperation with ICCROM and UNESCO, the International Experts Meeting on the Safeguarding of Libya’s Cultural Heritage, convened in Tunis in May 2016.
Every year, the Embassy of the United States to Libya offers talented and community-minded Libyans the opportunity to engage in first-hand cultural exchange with their American peers through our diverse educational and cultural exchange programs. These programs are overseen within the U.S. Department of State by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and are managed by the U.S. Embassy and through local partners, including AMIDEAST. These educational and leadership focused exchange programs range from short visit programs not exceeding one week to long-term postgraduate degrees.
U.S. Embassy Libya’s Public Affairs Office (PAO) is pleased to announce that funding is available through the Public Diplomacy Grant Program for projects up to $25,000 USD. Projects for a greater value will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Libyan Alumni community of U.S. Exchange Programs counts more than 2,000 members who have participated in various programs launched by the embassy targeting Libyans from different age groups all over Libya.
The Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT) is a 120-hour course for current and future English language teachers in the Middle East and North Africa.
