Deputy Chief of Mission Inga Heemink

Inga Heemink, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, assumed her assignment as Deputy Chief of Mission for the Libya External Office, Tunis in August 2025. She previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania from 2022-2024. Her previous overseas tours include assignments as Deputy Assistance Coordinator in Islamabad, Pakistan; Economic Unit Chief in Cape Town, South Africa; Civilian Team Lead in Afghanistan (Ghor Province), and Regional Refugee Coordinator for the Horn of Africa based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Other overseas assignments include the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), Lisbon, and Luanda. Domestically, she served on the Department of State’s Board of Examiners (BEX) and as a Deputy Office Director in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. She is the recipient of a number of State Department Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.
Ms. Heemink is a distinguished graduate of the National War College with a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy. She also has a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) and a B.S. in Biology. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ms. Heemink worked in public health research. She has studied Arabic, French, and Portuguese.
