    Here is my response to the question:

    Yes, the wisdom of God can lead someone to stay in and continue in a hostile land. But such leading must be preceded by a decision to obey the written instruction to leave when not received.

    Here is an event in scripture that puts this in clear perspective.

    During Paul's ministry in Corinth, he was opposed by Jews, and he promptly embraced the wisdom to leave a people who do not welcome the gospel.

    “And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.”
    — Acts 18:6 (KJV)

    Paul chose to preach to willing people. But then, the opposition was in the land, and he knew well that as long as he stayed there, he would encounter danger, and so he purposed in his heart to leave the city.

    We know that his mind was made up to leave because of the words that Jesus spoke to him, and his decision to continue in the city for a year and six months.

    Lately, I’ve been reflecting deeply on the cautions Jesus gave concerning how we must conduct ourselves when faced with opposition in our evangelistic assignment. As someone who firmly believes in wholehearted commitment to evangelism, I find it striking that Jesus Himself presents a balanced approach to this commitment.

    Yes, He wants us committed. But no, He does not want us to be fanatical.

    There is a thin line between commitment and fanaticism. That line is called wisdom.

    Those who disregard Jesus’ counsel to exercise caution with men, or to relocate when hostility arises, are often crossing into fanaticism—not out of spiritual boldness, but out of misguided zeal.

    In Matthew 10:14, Jesus gave this clear instruction:

    [14] If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.

    This counsel is in perfect harmony with the other instructions in the same chapter—to be cautious of men (v.17) and to flee to another city when persecuted (v.23). The message is simple: do not force the gospel on those who reject it.

    Jesus Himself taught us not to insist that people listen to us when they’ve shown clear disinterest.

    In Mark 6:11, He repeats this same counsel even about a territory.

    In my previous article, I highlighted Jesus' counsel to His disciples to beware of men, even as they were sent as sheep into the midst of wolves (Matthew 10:16-17). This counsel offers a powerful balance—while we are commissioned to preach boldly, we must exercise discernment to stay safe and alive for continued ministry to willing hearts.

    As I read further into Matthew 10, another profound counsel from Jesus stood out to me:

    “But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another. . .”

    This scripture presents another layer of Jesus' wisdom for His messengers. When persecution arises in a city, Jesus doesn’t suggest enduring it or trying to prove a point. His instruction is clear: RUN!

    Relocate to another city. Find a place where the message can be heard without resistance or personal danger.

    Both the counsel to beware of men and the counsel to flee when persecuted belong in the same bracket—they reveal a side of Jesus' heart that is often overlooked: His deep concern for the safety and wellbeing of His laborers, even as they fulfill their evangelistic assignments.

    There are believers who remain in territories where they are consistently persecuted, driven by emotional attachment or a sense of obligation. While there may be times when God specifically instructs us to remain in such places, our default response—unless otherwise directed by the Holy Spirit—should be to relocate.

    This is not cowardice; it is obedience to divine counsel.

    Staying alive to preach another day is profitable to the Lord of the harvest.

    Moreover, there's an important spiritual principle at play here that I want you to pay attention to: the anointing upon our lives thrives in an atmosphere of honor.

    When a city becomes hostile to the gospel, the anointing upon the messenger becomes limited in its effectiveness.

    The dishonor that comes through persecution creates a spiritual resistance that hinders the move of God. Jesus Himself did not perform many mighty works in places where He was dishonored (Matthew 13:58).

    Therefore, I must state this emphatically:
    when persecution arises, your first response should be to flee to a tolerable location.
    You only remain if the Lord of the Harvest intercepts your decision to leave with a clear instruction to stay. Outside of such divine direction, the wisdom of Jesus is clear—RUN!

    Running is not defeat; it is wisdom. It is stewardship of your life and calling. And it ensures that you remain an available vessel for the gospel in fields that are ripe and willing.

    While reading Matthew 10:16-18, I was struck by an intriguing instruction from Jesus as He commissioned His disciples for ministry:

    In this passage, Jesus sends His disciples to evangelize the lost sheep of Israel. However, He uses a striking metaphor—He is sending them as sheep into the midst of wolves.

    This highlights the reality that their mission field would not always be a friendly or receptive environment. They were being sent to a people who, like wolves, might be hostile, aggressive, or resistant to the truth of the gospel.

    But what caught my attention deeply was the seemingly paradoxical instruction that follows: "But beware of men."

    Jesus sends them in the midst of wolves, yet He specifically warns them to beware of men. Why this distinction? Why emphasize the danger of men when the entire mission is already in the midst of wolves?

    This teaches us an important spiritual and practical lesson. Jesus was not calling the disciples to avoid their mission field, nor was He telling them to disengage from the people they were sent to. Rather, He was instilling in them a balanced mindset for ministry.

    They must carry the gospel boldly and compassionately, yet they must also be discerning and cautious. Not every wolf will receive the gospel, and some may even become instruments of satan to persecute, oppose, or entrap the messengers of the gospel.

  • I just got a call from the husband of a woman whom I prayed for last September while out on evangelism in Ogba, Ikeja.

    For three years, they had been looking for the fruit of the womb. She has had multiple miscarriages, and from my conversation with her, I discerned that she was under attack from witchcraft.

    I held her hand, said a short, simple, and specific prayer ending the attack of witchcraft and commanding that she conceive and put to bed safely.

    I remember the surprise on the face of my accompanying disciple on the briefness of the prayer and my not putting her on a fast or prayer regime.

    She conceived that same month, and today, her husband called to inform me that she gave birth to a baby boy this week, and he extended an invitation for me to attend the naming ceremony.

    Jesus is still in the business of doing miracles.

    There is a need for Christians to be trained in the art and act of evangelism.

    I am always moved to pity when I hear Christians who evangelize preach things that are contrary to the gospel.

    They have a good intention to get people born again, but their illiteracy in the message of the gospel and the art of communicating the same ruins their effort.

    Christians who got out for evangelism but do not know the gospel and the accuracy of its communication resist the gospel.

    Before you step out to preach the gospel, ensure that you have received adequate and accurate training on evangelism - it will make your efforts productive.

  • DIARY OF A SOULWINNER

    While out on evangelism to Ojo local government, I had an experience that I had never had before. As I moved from street to street, I got into a particular street where I saw 3 women seated outside their house. I got their attention, preached the gospel to them, and they believed.

    As I walked away from their presence to exit the street, they called unto me saying that a woman who lives adjacent to their house was calling for me. As I walked to where the woman was seated outside her house, she said to me, "You no wan carry the blessing come here?"

    So, I preached the gospel to her, and she believed unto eternal life. Afterwards, I told her that I was going to pray over her business seeing that she was seated outside her house attending to her business. As I turned to leave her presence, after praying for her business, I heard the Lord say to me, "She has a prayer request."

    So, I looked back at her and asked her if she had something she wanted God to do for her. "Yes, my sister needs prayer. They told me today that she is in labor and she has been having dreams of dying. I have been fasting for her since morning and I just broke my fast now." She told me.

    I told her that I believed that this was the reason God made her call for me to come preach to her. I told her that I was the answer to her prayer seeing that she just ended her fast. I further asked her if she had any other thing she wanted God to do for her. She told me that she also dreams about her death. And that she has a fear of dying.

    I was happy to know that God was mindful of her experiencing life for herself and her sister.

    I commanded health over her sister and her, and she believed the words that I spoke to her hearing.

    That was not all that surprised me about this particular street I entered.

    As I walked away from her to exit the street, I passed by a woman who was seated close to the exit of the street. She called unto me, "Brother, you no wan preach to me?"

    I have never had an experience where people would call me to preach to them.

    I apologized to her, and I preached the gospel to her, and she believed unto eternal life.

    As I was talking to her about the gospel, the Lord told me that she had a sickness. So, after praying for her, I asked her if she had a sickness that she needed healing from.

    My usual inquiry from people I preach to is, "Do you have anything you want God to do for you?" But I framed my words that way because God told me that she had a sickness in her body.

    She told me that her Blood Pressure is very high. So, I placed my right hand on her right shoulder and commanded healing to her body. She was happy and thanked me for praying for her.

    I know by spiritual intelligence that it was their angels who moved them to call on me seeing that I represent the giving of eternal life and divine intervention in the spirit.
