Topic: CHRISTIANITY - A RELIGION OR A WAY OF LIFE
Text: Acts 4:13
INTRODUCTION:
In the world we're today, most of us who call ourselves Christians have forgotten what it all entails. According to a preacher, he defined religion as man's attempt to reconcile with God, either through laying down rules, sacrifices, etc all to ensure man is on the same page with God while Christianity is entirely different though for the same reason. Christianity is God coming down to man to initiate the reconciliation with man. God took the step of sending His one and only son Jesus Christ to reconcile us to Himself 2 Corinthians 5:19
LESSON OUTLINES
1. Christianity is the Evidence of a Life with Jesus Acts 4:13
From our text above, the Israel religious leaders were shocked at Peter and John speech. Though they were not students of any known school, yet they spoke with power, wisdom, understanding, wisdom and boldness. What was the difference? They noticed that these guys had been with Jesus.
This shows that Christianity is not about merely knowing and believing in Jesus, it's not based on ceremonies and formality, but it is rooted in relationship with Jesus Christ. It means being with Jesus Christ and living like Him.
2. Christianity transforms Life.
Religion often focuses on outward acts i.e. observing fasting, prayers, traditions, and other dos and don'ts. Note that doing these is not wrong, but if we are doing them and we are not rooted in Him, they become dead work and mere religion. Christianity is a life filled with Christ's presence and not led by lay down rules. Colossians 1:27.
It changes how you talk, think, love, forgive, and live. It is not about our weekly activities or routine, it is more about our everyday reality
3. Christianity gives life and not rules
Looking at the Old Testament, we could see that they were all given rules to follow and by following these rules, you will be in good terms with God, but that doesn't guarantee reconciliation. But Christianity through Jesus Christ said It's finished - come as you are, I will give you rest. He said I come that they might have life and have it more abundantly, He said I am the way, the truth, and the life.
Jesus came not to be a founder of another religion, but to show us the only way to reconcile with God, the only way filled with love, power, purpose, and relationship with the Father.
4. What do people see in You?
Just like Peter and John, the world is also watching us. Can they say the same for us that we've been with Jesus? This is not because of your church attendance but by your love for people, integrity, patience, forgiveness and forgetting, peace even in trouble, etc.
We should try and do this little assignment
Ask people around you to tell you the truth about yourself.
Can they call you a Christian?
Not because I go to church, but does my life showcase the lifestyle of a Christian.
CONCLUSION:
Christianity is not all about being religious, it's about having a cordial relationship with Christ and letting your life preach louder than your words.
