I am asking for anyone to please help us out.
I started a gofundme to help raise funds for my son's surgery!
A little bit about the situation:
My son has what is called a deep hemangioma, which is a benign birthmark that appears as a bluish-purple swelling under the skin or in the fat layers. It's made up of blood vessel cells and can have a smooth surface. Deep hemangiomas are often diagnosed when swelling becomes noticeable, usually around 2 to 4 months of age.
A hemangioma may cause problems by:
•blocking vision or eye movements (which my son has)
•reducing air flow through the nose and mouth(which the hemangioma is obstructing a nasal passage or one side of his nose)
•bleeding
•breaking down the skin surface (ulceration)
•having enough blood flowing through it to put a strain on the baby's heart
•affecting the child's appearance(which my son has)
Hemangiomas are more common in babies:
•born prematurely (before their due date), which he was his due date was 12/14, and he was born 11/16
•at a low birth weight (which he was being a premiee)
•as part of a multiple birth (twins, triplets, etc.). A child can have more than one hemangioma.
***Insurance has paid for lodging, fuel reimbursement, and meal reimbursement since he was 4 months, and they are refusing to pay for it since he's "no longer a premiee and is over 1 yr old" their exact words.
They are also refusing to cover the surgery (which we have appealed but could take up to 90 days or longer). They finally gave us a reason as to why they are denying the surgery.
1. He is no longer a premiee, and he is over 1 yr old
2. They think the procedure isn't medically necessary
3. They think we should start over from square one and go to a closer dr (3 hr-3.5 hr with traffic) so they don't have to pay for lodging and as much in fuel reimbursement.
Memphis is ONLY 4 hrs away, so what makes them think a 3 -3.5 hr trip doesn't need lodging? Also, if Dr. is saying it's medically necessary, it must be medically necessary considering it is affecting his vision and nasal passage.
It make no sense when we have tried topical ointment, oral medication as well as injections which are alternatives to surgery. Which is what they said we needed to try before they would cover surgery!

Surgery is scheduled for 9/12/24, and everything has to be paid in full 2 wks before surgery is what they said initially. But they have since said we can pay half upfront & the rest can be set up in payments.
* This is very urgent, and we have 31 days til 2 weeks before the surgery, which is August 29th*
