- When people ask me what my favorite Bible verse is and I say John 1:1, they look at me with surprise and puzzlement. They're all like "But that's such a simple verse! How is that your favorite? Are you even sure you have a favorite verse, or you just said the first thing that entered your head?"
But what they fail to understand is that NOTHING in the Bible is simple. Every book, every chapter, every verse, every word, is as powerful as the spirit behind them; The Spirit of God.
What might seem simple and unassuming to you, may be a sort of anchor to someone else.
John 1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God"
The Word here is Jesus Christ, and it shows that He has always been there, right from the creation, the beginning of time. And I am glad that He was and always is. I am safe, secure and comforted by the fact that the Word, my Savior, will continue being there. If He was there in the beginning, one with the Father, what's to stop Him from being here now?
So No, my favorite Bible verse is not simple. It simply shows the omniscience of God, and His benevolence.
