Your First Project
Creating a project is easy and it only takes a few simple steps. Plus, learn about our different project views.
Projects are temporary endeavors teams undertake to create a product, service or result.
To create a new project, you can:
- Start from scratch
- Import an Excel, CSV or Microsoft Project file to act as a project template
- Use a featured ProjectManager template or a custom template you've already built in the software
Then, invite and onboard your team and start creating tasks to work toward project objectives.
Manage projects in any view as all data populates across the software.

Creating a Project
Once you've logged into the software, click on "new" on the bottom left-hand corner of the menu. The below popup will appear where you can choose the project name and determine whether you want to start from scratch or use a template.
If you have other team members already in the software, you can share it with them.
Once you create a project, you can manage it in any view. For example, a manager may be more comfortable building a project in the Gantt but team members may want to manage their workflow using the board.

Tip: If you want to set the project working days for your new project (the days that you will be giving and tracking assignments), click the small settings gear in the bottom right-hand corner of the above popup. Read more on our corresponding Knowledge Base page.
Gantt Chart
Create your project using the Gantt view if your project is more waterfall than agile. Waterfall projects are more linear and driven by stages or summary tasks. For example, you must gather and document requirements before you can start the design.
You may have tasks that are dependent on one another throughout the project. The Gantt is also great for lengthy, complex projects because it makes it easy to visualize the project.
Once you create summary tasks, set dates, add dependencies and milestones, use the board and list views to manage work.

Kanban Board
The board is a helpful tool for managing your workflow. You may have some set due dates, dependencies or an overall project finish date, but you don’t need the visualization of the Gantt to build your project.
Create a project on the board if your project is stage-driven. For a task to be marked complete, it must go through various stages such as requested, ready to start, in progress and done. Use the board if you'd like to see information such as priority level, tags, due date and assignee on each card as you build your project.
The filters on the board make it easy to see actionable information about the project. For example, the priority filter can help you determine overall project priority.

Tip: Get even more out of your kanban board with workflows and automation.
List
The list view, also referred to as a task list, is ideal if you want to build a project quickly. Start by typing a task and pressing enter after each one. This is helpful if you are running your project more like a to-do list.
Add more details later or expand the task to access the to-do list and assigned hours. If you input information on the list, the same task details appear on the board.
If you start a project on the list, you will see those tasks on the board and the Gantt so you can easily add workflows or summary tasks, depending on your preferred view.

Calendar
The calendar view visually tracks task durations, due dates, and scheduled meetings. Project data is reflected in the calendar regardless of where the data was originally entered.
Hover over the data on the calendar to learn more about each task or meeting, or click the item name to open the task card for detailed edits. If you haven't added any tasks or meetings to your first project, the calendar is blank. You can create a task or meeting directly from the calendar by hovering over the date and clicking "+ create."

Project Dashboards
Once you create your first project, your project dashboard section will populate automatically. Your project dashboards allow you to see project health, progress, task status, slippage and more.
You can easily keep your dashboards updated over time by updating task status and assigning tasks to your team.

Tip!: Once you start creating projects, you can see all accessible projects on the left-hand side under "portfolio." Star projects that you would like to see at the top of the list for easy access.
