Beach, book-review, books, Canada, Canada., Cavendish, fiction, Green Gables, Iran, Lucy Maud Montgomery, McNeill, nuclear war, Park Service, PEI, Travel, USA

Well by all accounts Tuesday 7 April we were very close to all out war with a nuclear attack by the USA on Iran, to save Israel. Trump made it very clear, he was going to wipe out an entire civilization some 5000 years of history and 95 million people. I do not see the American political system working as intended, maybe the 18th century model should be modernized. I know a lot of people were worried and talked about it. The price of gas is very high and my barber was telling me how much it cost for a full tank it is 100% higher in cost. I wonder what the effect will be on tourism this Summer.

Finished reading the book on becoming Green Gables or the story of how the national park at Green Gables was created following the publishing sensation of the book Anne of Green Gables in 1908. The end is sad in a way, Myrtle McNeill-Webb and her husband Ernest had sold the farm in 1936 to the Government of Canada but they thought the word of Gov Officials was sufficient to guarantee their staying at the farm until they died. Not so, they discovered too late, by 1945 the end of the war ended and lots of young men returning needed jobs, Myrtle and Ernest were of retirement age and were told to pack their things one week before Christmas 1945. The House itself would remain empty until 1948 when it was transformed into Green Gables of the book you read today. They had to give their 2 dogs away, and the furniture. They moved to Charlottetown to live with their children. Ernest died in 1950 but Myrtle lived until 1979 in the manse of the baptist Church in Cavendish. They never set foot back into the house and were shocked to see how the government erase any mentions of them owning the house or the farm before it became the Green Gables tourist site. This is true because prior to my reading this book I had never heard of them and always wondered how all this had come about. The Baptist Church is still on Cavendish road but the manse is gone. No wonder many tourists ask me how author Lucy Maud Montgomery came to choose this particular house. I have to make a link between Myrtle McNeill and her cousin Lucy Maud. They are all buried in the Cavendish Cemetery in the first row by the road.

I am now looking at Cavendish in a different way. From a farming community, it became a national park and part amusement park, in some parts a crass commercial project. Originally as of 1936, the McNeill-Webb farm saw the building of a golf course on the farmland with a restaurant and club house which would move into the house. It is only after 1948 that slowly a project was formed to make it into the house of the characters Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert of the book Anne of Green Gables. This was due to public demand on seeing the house as described in the story. In the 1970’s the barn which had burned down in 1932 was rebuilt and modified, modernized in 2020 with a new $10 million dollar visitor centre and gift shop, large parking for buses. After the storm Fiona in 2023, the park service had to remove many old trees and plant new saplings. Many of the trees of the time of author Lucy Maud Montgomery have been cut down in 1936 for the golf course. So what you see today is a fantasy place modelled to fit the book. Now I understand what my uncle said to me two years ago on his visit to PEI that the Cavendish site did not look at all like what he saw in 1960.

Arabs, aryans, country, culture, Damascus, Food, Iran, Persia, semite, Syria, Travel

Time is flying too fast, my days are filled with taking care of Mr. Teeter, he has a long list of needs, not just restricted to me, Will also has his hands full with him. The problem we are too easily taken in by his habits and he knows which buttons to push. There is always shopping for this or that on meal planning each day. Will made an excellent Chicken with figs and calamata olives, we also had a fresh vegetable and home made broth with left over turkey meat. Wednesday night it will be fresh shrimps with a white wine cream sauce with spinach on pasta. Each meal is planned in the morning over espresso. We try to have one fish meal a week, I can go to the fish monger for what he has on offer that day. Lately halibut has been in season. On this rainy Thursday night it’s Greek marinated chicken thighs and Greek Lemon grilled potatoes.

While watching YouTube I discovered a site which is made by a young Iranian woman living in Tehran called NAARI DIARY, it made me nostalgic. I had a temporary duty in Iran some years ago, I was very impressed with the Capital and with the people. Iranians are a cultured people. It is far from the images presented to you on the news. Of course the media and certain individuals have an incentive in presenting a negative picture. In my job I had to deal with Iranian diplomats and always found them courteous, polite, well informed, we did not agree and sometimes their position on certain issues where unreasonable but it happens with lots of countries, look at the USA today towards Canada. Iranians are not the fanatics presented in the news. Iran is a very old country with a culture that brings us back to the dawn of civilization. The Persian Empire goes back several millennia, with great poets and artists.

I remember when I flew into Tehran on Syrian Airways from Damascus, it was a shock, I was leaving behind the Arab world and entering a very different culture. Iranians are Aryans and their thinking is similar to Western thinking, I could see in the way people thought. Aryan, or Arya, is a term originating from the ethno-cultural self-designation of the Indo-Iranians. It stood in contrast to nearby outsiders like the Arabs or Semitic people.

My first impression of the city was its urban spread, the famous snow covered mountains dominating the city, as seen in this picture below, its architecture, modern and ancient. A vast metropolis of 10 million people, it is the largest city in Western Asia. The food is sophisticated and wonderful, beautiful bookstores, great palaces and museums and for me the plus was the carpets, I bought quite a few while in Iran and the prices compared to what you pay in Canada quite low for what was a all wool and natural dies, with patterns unseen here.

The people also were quite nice and friendly. Canada had difficult relations with Iran since our spiriting out of Iran a group of USA diplomats in 1979. The Hollywood movie Argos was not faithful to what actually happened. It angers me sometimes when I think of it, of the risk my colleagues took, had we, Canada, not helped to escape with the involvement of our Ambassador and staff and the Prime Minister of the time Joe Clark, these Americans would have been hostages for months.

Carpet repair artisan which can be found in any good carpet stores, they do incredible work. They do delicate work like a clock repair man.

How I wish I could return to visit again, so many beautiful things to see and experience. There is also a huge man made lake of 130 hectares, Chitgar Lake in western part of Tehran. All this to say that it was not what I was expecting on my work visit.

So many other cities in Iran are truly worth a visit. However in the current international context it is very difficult to visit the country.

blueberries, covid, fall colours, flu shot, PEI, Travel

Again a great day of sunshine and cool weather. Last night it was 0C and it woke me up, I turn on the heat, I also had a very sore neck, I do not know why and had a heat pad to help alleviate the pain. Today we got our Flu and our Covid shots as we do each year. It was our 8th Covid shot and since it is all free and takes 3 minutes, why not. The pharmacist does a splendid job, we were told that about 60 people a day are scheduled.

A pet peeve of mine is following alleged chefs who present good recipes you might be tempted to try but why do they always have to do it bare chested. To me that takes away from their credentials. Jacques Pepin who must be in his late 80th, nice presentation, easy recipes, classics dishes with clothes on.

This year we are blessed with loads of Fall colours, yesterday on our way back from Wood Island Lighthouse we drove through Selkirk Road, the colours were spectacular including vast fields of wild blueberries which turn into bright colours in the Fall.

Fields of wild bleuberries in their fall colour, quite the sight.

Antoni Gaudi, Barcelona, Catalonia, Crystal cruiseline, fascists, Franco, Juan Carlos, Royalty, Sagrada Familia, Spain, Travel

We will be in Barcelona in October 2026 to board our cruise on Crystal. We will arrive a few days before so as not to be rushed. In 2026 the construction of the Sagrada Familia Church (Holy Family) will be mostly complete except for the main front porch which cannot be completed until the entire block of buildings across the streets are demolished and this may well take another 10 years. The street is also a problem, underneath the high speed train connecting Barcelona to Paris passes daily. The solution of the architects is to build a bridge connecting the main door to the other side of the street and with the buildings gone it would be a new vista on this giant church. You may wonder why did the City of Barcelona agree to grant building permits originally knowing it would create this problem.

When construction of the Sagrada Familia started in March 1882, only a few years later did Antoni Gaudi became its chief architect and designer. At the time the land around the church was totally empty, it was all fields outside the city. Gaudi died in 1926 and only one part of the Church was completed. Worked slowed down, no money and then in 1936 during the vicious Spanish Civil War the studio of Gaudi is attacked and much of his design and drawings destroyed.

At the end of the Civil War the Fascist government of General Francisco Franco is in full control of Spain. The King Alfonso XIII is sent in exile, though Franco keeps Prince Juan Carlos in case he needs royal support with the public. The prince is very much a hostage in a golden cage. The Catholic Church in Spain had during the years of the Civil War played a very controversial role to protect itself and supported the Fascists. Enormous resentment built up and many politicians openly opposed the church and the building of the Sagrada Familia, they allowed construction all around the church thus creating the problem for the front facade. Franco died in 1975 and Juan Carlos became King and the monarchy was restored, democracy was restored. However Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and does not see itself as part of Spain. Now that 50 years has passed mentalities have changed and the great popularity of the Basilica and the million of tourists coming to visit has created jobs and profits. The Church is also much diminished and Sagrada Familia is seen as a treasure of the genius of Antoni Gaudi.

I remember hearing about this church and Barcelona in grade 6 in school, I did not know that one day I would get to see it. In the last 35 years we have visited Barcelona several times and each time saw more and more of the church nearing completion, the giant modern stain glass windows alone is worth the visit. By next year the last great tower will be completed and it should make for quite a view at 173 meter tall (568 feet).

Cimino, Colonna, Europe, Italy, Olimpia, Orvieto, Pamphilij, Popes, Princes, Rome, Travel, Vatican

I have a collection of cards and postcards of places we have visited in past decades. Some of them are beautiful, like the photo cards of Greece or of Art work in museums that we particularly liked. While living in Rome, we made a point to visit and attend exhibits in various museums, Rome is a living museum, the Italians throw nothing away. There are many old noble families who have palaces in the City and elsewhere in the Lazio province surrounding the Eternal City. In a twist of history, the Italian Government and Italians in general have great respect for old names and especially if the family has significant ancestors who marked their era. In Rome on either side of the Piazza Venezia you have two such palaces full of artworks accumulated over the centuries. One is the Colonna Palace built on the site of an old Egyptian Temple. The ancestor Prince Admiral Marc Antonio Colonna, was the victor at the naval battle of Lepanto which saved Italy from an invasion by the Ottoman Turks. The Pope granted him the land and many other benefits.

Palazzo Colonna is one of the oldest and largest private family owned palaces in Rome. It appears in movie Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The Princely Colonna family dates back to the twelfth century and have been living in this renaissance/baroque palace for 800 years. It is open only on Saturday mornings for guided tours of the principal rooms.

The other is the Doria Pamphilij Palace, an enormous private princely family palace also built in the renaissance/baroque style and host many social events. The art gallery is again jaw dropping. It is one of the most important art collections in Europe. The family originally from Genoa, distinguished itself through military campaigns against the French at Crecy and at sea against other enemies of Italy. Andrea Doria is probably the most famous member of the family. Today Prince Jonathan Doria Pamphilij and his husband is the head of the family.

The family through the ages has a lot of colourful characters involved in games of power and politics in Rome. One such person is Olimpia Maidalchini Pamphilij, Princess of San Martino (26 May 1591 – 27 September 1657) was the sister-in-law of Pope Innocent X (Pamphili). A formidable woman, her marble bust can be seen in one of the long galleries of the Palace. You can see her regal authority in her look and posture. She was perceived by her contemporaries as having influence regarding papal appointments.

On May 26, 1591, a tax collector in Viterbo, Italy, named Sforza Maidalchini, and his wife, welcomed another child. He was disappointed to discover that it was a girl. She was christened Olimpia.

When she was 15 years old, he had made his decision: she would become a nun. When her father tried to imprison her in a convent, Olimpia strongly resisted. She won—but, according to her biographer, this formative experience had a lasting effect on her, and she spent the rest of her life fortifying herself with as much wealth and power as she could, perpetually “terrified of being locked up by men.”

In defiance of her father, she married the wealthiest young man in town. Three years later, he died, and she inherited his entire fortune. As a 21-year-old wealthy widow, she made a marriage alliance with a 51-year-old Prince Pamphilio Pamphilj. He gained her fortune, and she gained a title of nobility. Her next project: to help her brother-in-law, 38-year-old Monsignor Giantbattista Pamphilj, rise in his career at the Vatican. She was ambitious and used her political savvy and determination to help him move up the ecclesiastical ladder all the way to the top—she offered advice, she acted as a hostess for him, and she skillfully bribed the right people to get him increasingly better positions. It was a world of deceit, treachery, and manipulation, and she was exceptionally skilled at navigating it.

She secured him a cardinal’s hat in 1629, and after a spectacular turn of events (aka another massive bribe) she got him elected as the next Pope in 1644, he took the name of Innocent X. Thanks to his sister-in-law and key advisor, he had secured what was arguably the most powerful position in all of Europe at the time.

When Pamphilj became Pope Innocent X, he was 70 years old and Olimpia was 53. From the start, it was clear that she was the one in charge, even if the public-facing figure was the Pope. And the men at the Vatican were less than thrilled. “We have just elected a female pope,” Cardinal Alessandro Bichi angrily declared on the day that Cardinal Pamphilij was declared Pope Innocent X.

The position of Pope was a religious one, with spiritual duties, but it was also a political one and the responsibilities were endless. Every day, Olimpia arrived at the papal palace early in the morning. She stayed there all day, not leaving till past midnight. She made decisions on important appointments and promotions, she influenced policies, she negotiated with foreign powers, she fielded petitions, etc. She also supported artists like Bernini and Cortona, she supported women in various capacities and is seen by many as an early feminist. She gave funds to support nuns, she sponsored marriage dowries for young girls who were being forced into convents against their wills, and she protected prostitutes by running all the brothels of Rome putting them under the protection of the Vatican, the profits going into the coffers of the Holy See.

Unfortunately Donna Olimpia made many enemies during her time in power. After her brother-in-law, Pope Innocent X died, the new Pope Alexander VII succeeded him, launching an investigation into her conduct during his predecessors’s reign, looking into her “corruption, embezzlement, and the perplexing disappearance of the entire Vatican Treasury.” The investigation didn’t go anywhere, she was exiled to Orvieto where she died.

Crystal cruise, Gibraltar, luxury, Mediterranean, Morocco, Spain, Travel

Well finally it is Summer and the weather has warmed up and is quite pleasant in the mid 20 to 30C. Considering that we are in mid July not to early for sunny days. My sister and husband are arriving in a week to visit PEI, they have been here before and loved it. Nothing like going from the Big Apple NYC to the Big Potato Charlottetown. Like Frank Sinatra sings, If you can make it there you can make it anywhere in PEI.

Canada and Downton Abbey, I did not know that Highclere Castle owned and lived in by the George Reginald Oliver Molyneux Herbert, 8th Earl of Carnarvon (born 10 November 1956) was the place where on July 1, 1867 the Canadian Constitution was proclaimed after the vote in the Westminster House of Commons. Each year a reception is given by Lord Carnarvon to mark the occasion, his family have a close relationship with Canada.

For some time now, we have been planning a trip, the problem was where to go. We did not want to return to places we had visited previously or lived in, though Rome is always a good place to return to or Sicily. There are many other places/cities.

So Mitch who has an excellent blog on his and SG exciting life in Spain, http://www.movingwithmitchell.com , inspired us, you could say he was an influencer. Also our travels to Spain and our cruises around the Mediterranean gave us food for thought on where we could go next. In 2026 will be our 48th yr as a couple and also major birthdays, I will be 70 and Will 80. We always travelled to a major area of the world for such birthdays, like Cairo, Chicago, Istanbul, Beijing, Rome. Will also celebrated his 60th in a major trip to Vietnam which we saw from top to bottom, that was a dream. So the tradition continues and we booked for October 2026 a cruise on Crystal Serenity which was totally refurbished in 2023. It is a small 700 passenger ship, though the ratio is 1 pax for 97 sq feet and this is what we like smaller the better. We will start in Barcelona and wish to see the completed church of the Sagrada Familia, the last time was 12 years ago and it was already spectacular. Then visit Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Cartagena, Melilla, Gibraltar, Casablanca, Tangier, Cadiz and Lisbon, so 4 countries in all, Spain, UK, Morocco, Portugal. I will have to read up on all those ports and sights.

Looking at the ship it has nice restaurants, a NOBU Japanese cuisine, which I would love to try. The concept for this restaurant was developed by Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, chef and restaurateur known for his fusion cuisine blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. His restaurants have been awarded Michelin stars.

The excursions look very interesting and I want to ensure I get on them. There is one on Arabic calligraphy and visiting a souk. I use to go to the Khan in Cairo, as a market it was fantastic. I can polish by bargaining skills again. Very excited by this prospect. I have to read up on all the other excursions.

Our Cabin has 406 sq feet of space, looks spacious and well appointed. The ship amenities are great. They also have 24 hr room service, dial 3 my kind of roughing it. Crystal Named “World’s Best” By Travel + Leisure in 2025 Awards. We are excited by this opportunity.

B&B, Berlin, Canadian, Chateau, Ernée, Europe, France, Gay, Germany, Mayenne, Men, palace, Paris, Travel, travels

It struck me today as I stumbled upon another French Chateau renovation by two 35 year old Canadian men, Tom Garneau and Damian V who bought the Chateau de la Borde in the Val de Loire, it is called on YouTube, Chateau Poseidon. You see a lot of gay men buying Chateaux to renovate. I am thinking here of several sites where they show you what they are doing. Chateau d’Avensac even comes with a drag show, rich older Americans who hire cute French workers. The idea behind all this renovation craze is to open a B&B and event venue, it is all in all, a lot of work and cost plenty. Just heating those places in Winter cost a bundle unless you want to live in a place kept at 17C. Many make money on Patreon and by collecting subscribers. They also receive gifts from people who wish to help with the renovations. Many companies also sponsor them, Dan Preston at Chateau de Chaumont is one. Tim and his wife at Chateau de Purnon have the French government rebuilding the roof of their chateau. Then Ash and Terry and his mom have just completed a total renovation of their chateau. Many seem to buy chateaux in Ernée in Mayenne.

What is funny is in all cases, all these newly bought Chateaux have been abandoned for 40 yrs, or so we are told by the new owners. Also the age of the Chateau always appears to be about 400 to 900 years old. Most if not all where built around 1850 to 1900, a period of industrial prosperity in France by new money riding on the coat tails of le deuxieme Empire under Napoléon III. It is rare to see a Chateau older than 1800 unless it is a complete ruin or it is a classified National French Monument and then you need millions of euros to buy one under many governmental constraints.

Talking of renovation on 2 July, the rebuilding of the Berlin Royal Palace was completed after 32 years of work. I can hardly believe it has been more than 3 decades because the first time I went to Berlin the site was a bus parking lot in front of the old East German Parliament (Palast der Republik) which stood on the site from 1976-2006 when it was totally demolished.

What you see today is the replica on the outside of the baroque palace of Prussian Kings and German Emperors, originally built in 1443 and demolished in 1950. The Hohenzollern family appeared in photos during the rebuilding of what at been their home for centuries. The outside is faithful to its German baroque origin the inside is very modern and houses a museum dedicated to culture and ethnology.

BBQ, Canada, Canada., Celebration, Crown, dachshunds, history, news, Politics, Royal Family, Travel

Today was a nice day, no rain and 22 C. Tomorrow for Canada day it is to be sunny and 26C perfect outdoor weather. We are going to a BBQ at the Club and will see the fireworks from Victoria Park just a few steps away.

Today I received from my last surviving paternal uncle, details of my family genealogy, he had the study done a very long time ago. He is now 86 and I wanted the details before it was too late. I will be reading all this in the days to come. I know the broad outline. It is very nice to be able to go back several centuries in family history.

Teeter is doing well, I gave him a bath today for Canada Day. So he is all clean and smells nice. He is very quiet when I put him in the bath and just sits there which is very nice. I also brush his teeth every day, he has very big teeth for such a small dog. When we return from a walk, he quickly runs to the elevator and then once the door opens on our floor he sprints to our door, puffing at me for not doing the same. He knows that once inside he will get a piece of liver. Going to bed at night, we have developed a routine with him and he knows what to do, only took him 3 days to learn the routine, he is a smart cookie.

I put a Canadian flag on my car which flies, I am not the only one. I also put my old Canadian flag, I got from the days I work in Parliament some 48 years ago, that flag has flown all over the world, following me on posting. I also am flying the Coronation flag of King Charles III. The Prince Edward had a very successful visit to PEI and a great military parade from City Hall to the barracks of the PEI Regiment in front of Government House.

HRH Prince Edward, taking the salute and wearing his Canadian Colonel in chief uniform of the PEI Regiment during the parade marking the 160th anniversary of the regiment in Charlottetown.

On Tuesday Canada Day, he will be in Ottawa for the festivities. As always huge crowds are expected near Parliament, most probably larger this year given all the trouble with the USA and Trump.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!

attitudes, Canada, Canada., Nova Scotia, PEI, Politics, Prejudice, Tourist, Travel, Trump, USA, war

When you meet a lot of people like I do with my current guide job, you see all kinds of people, you also get a sense with what is going on in their heads, attitudes displayed, etc.

This year the tourist season has started on a slow note, not as busy as 2024. We do get a lot of Canadians coming to PEI and some on their way to les Iles de la Madeleine, the ferry to those islands starts in Souris on the eastern shores of PEI. In all likelihood July will be vey busy. My sister and her husband are coming to see us and hotels are all booked up and so are B&B.

Some days I will do two tours of the Island, usually different destinations. I see some very different people on the bus and I can usually tell in advance if it will be a good group or a bunch of entitled a-holes. It is taken for granted that the majority of travellers know nothing of our Island or Canada. People are on vacation and do not care to learn anything. Some questions are condescending, rude and arrogant. They ask but do not want to hear the answer. They are making a statement, they can be dismissive and cannot accept what you tell them, because back home it’s different. At any given stop along the way, some rush to the toilets or to get something to eat and will not visit the area at all. I don’t mind since they paid for this tour and paid dearly to visit a sight, anything from $125 USD upwards depending on what the tour involves. Some are needy, and almost want you to babysit them. Some are afraid and see danger everywhere, on PEI? Really come on. Others are anxious, the island has a spotty internet service in rural areas, no you cannot get a Uber, it is called U-ride here, in the rural area or at a beach it is unlikely they would come. Again others find it strange that people would live on a rural/agricultural island, surely you miss the vibe of the big city. Any questions about hospital or medical services being free because of our system of socialize medicine is not well received, it must be inferior or poor quality. It is not actually free but paid through taxation. I suppose that the Canadian approach of governing focused on general welfare for all in society is not well received in a society where the individual comes first over the general good. I hear it constantly and find it sad. It is Pride Month and many object to seeing Pride flags, here in little PEI it’s a big thing.

In the Spring until mid-August we get the low price cheap tourist cruises. The ships are older and probably in their last season before the scrap yard in Turkey. Today we had one such ship, with the distinctive honour of having 9 norovirus outbreaks in 5 years, I will not name the company but suffice to say that it is a big name in the industry. The news also affects the general mood, today it was the announcement of Trump last night that all negotiations on a trade deal with Canada were off and the trade war is on again. Some told me without hesitation that Trump was right given that Canada produces nothing. I simply reminded them that Canada was the number one trade partner of the USA and left it at that. I am not going to get involved in a dispute with a bunch of tourists who are in PEI for 4 hours.

I am off now until the next ship on 4 July.

So much happening

So this coming week on Tuesday, touring all day, it is also the day the King will come in open carriage escorted by 28 mounted RCMP Officers to the Senate Chamber temporarily located in the old railway station in Ottawa across the street from the famous Chateau Laurier Hotel while Parliament is being renovated. There are great expectations that the King will make a point to establish, for Trump’s benefit, that Canada is His Majesty’s Dominion. You can watch on YouTube the proceedings on Tuesday afternoon, with a review of an honour guard of 100 member the Canadian Regiment, a Royal Salute and 21 Gun salute. Members of Parliament have to walk about 2 city blocks from the West bank Building on Parliament hill where they currently sit to the Senate itself. In the morning before the Speech from the Throne, the House of Common will elect a new Speaker for the new 45th Parliament and there are 7 or 9 candidates from 3 different parties who are elected by all 343 Members of the House. Contrary to the US Congress or Senate, our Canadian Speakers are neutral and must not show any partisanship once elected and will rule on proceedings as codified, not when to hold a vote and not on what gets voted on. A much more civilized affair.

Photo of the Old Senate Chamber currently being renovated, holds 102 appointed Senators with a retirement age of 75. This room is quite beautiful with its paintings of the battlefield in Europe during the First World War and the gold leaf ceiling and massive bronze chandeliers.

The current Senate Chamber built to hold temporarily the Session for about 18 yrs until the Senate can return to the Central Block of Parliament. This modern room will be where HM King Charles III will read the speech from the Throne. The Thrones are a personal gift of the late Queen Elizabeth II taken from Oak and Walnut trees in the great Windsor Park.

Later this week off to Halifax and returning on 3 June, then on 4 June we will go and get Teeter, a former stud dachshund now retired at 5 yrs of age. The idea is to see how he adapts to living with us. Today I went to the pet store to see what I would need for him. Made a list based on what we have always had for our 4 other Dachshunds over the years. The one big advantage about a short hair Dachshund is no expensive grooming. You still have the teeth cleaning and nails but a good bath at home takes care of the rest. Of course in June I will have more tours to do but the schedule is not super charged up like last year.

Halifax, Nova Scotia.
