The Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) is an organizing and advocacy institution committed to economic, environmental, and racial justice. For over 30 years, we have bridged community and labor power to win policies that improve the lives of working families in Los Angeles and in Long Beach. Our vision is to help build a new economy rooted in good jobs, thriving communities, and a healthy environment for all. We fight for change through community organizing, building community and labor coalitions, research, communications, and policy work.
Accountable AI
LAANE is partnering with CPI, EBASE, Working Partnerships, the Los Angeles Federation of Labor, and the California Federation of Labor Unions as well as policy allies at the state level to set enforceable standards for fair, accountable technology. Together, we aim to build durable coalitions, organize impacted workers and community members, advance innovative policy models, and demonstrate how local action can lead the way toward a more just digital economy.
Climate
LAANE is working to combat the climate crisis in partnership with social justice and environmental allies and with IBEW Local 18 and the LA/OC Building and Construction Trades. Together, we seek to achieve a union-made renewable energy and water resilient future for Los Angeles that centers ratepayer equity, expands access to green infrastructure, and generates good union jobs for frontline communities.
Long Beach for a Just Economy
Long Beach for a Just Economy is committed to fighting for social and economic justice through building strategic community, labor, and faith-based partnerships and mobilizing working families of color to engage in the political process. In 2023, we launched the Tourism Workers Rising Campaign in partnership with Unite Here Local 11 to raise the wage for Long Beach hospitality workers.
Grocery & Retail
LAANE is working in partnership with UFCW 770 to make retail jobs better in L.A. by fighting to ensure that workers have access to more hours, safe and healthy workweeks, and fair scheduling practices.
Hospitality
LAANE is working in partnership with UNITE HERE! Local 11 to ensure that tourism industry workers are healthy and housed and ensured family-sustaining wages, quality health care, and worker protections.
Education
LAANE is working in partnership with UTLA to improve access and advance opportunities in public education for all students so that they thrive in the classroom, in their communities, and beyond.
