For Global Encryption Day 2025, Internet Society President and CEO Sally Wentworth sat down with U.S. Senator Ron Wyden to discuss why encryption matters. They talked about what’s at stake if we don’t have encryption, the role the Section 230 law plays in intermediary liability, and the challenges surrounding constructive conversations related to child safety, and the importance of encryption for the safety of children’s information. Finally, they discussed future challenges for the Internet, and how the Internet Society’s global community can best help ensure that people everywhere have a safe and secure online experience.
