Anderson Powerpole Connectors

We have found these connectors to be great for hooking up power supplies, transceivers, and other ham radio equipment. The Powerpole connectors we sell are suitable for #12 to #16 AWG wire. Crimp and solder your wire to the contact pin and then insert it into the housing until it clicks. We don't find the official crimp tool necessary and do recommend soldering every pin. We use the Gardner Bender crimping tool which can be found at big box stores, etc. and sells for $10-15.

They also can be joined together, side by side, to make a convenient plug/receptacle.

There are "roll pins" available that slide into the hole and secure the paired connectors so they will not slide apart. However, these roll pins are metal and if they happen to fall out, they can short whatever they land on. We know that from experience! So instead we suggest Q-Tip shafts, they actually hold better and are non-conductive. Just push them through the hole and trim them off flush with the plastic housing.

Powerpole connectors offer a low resistance connection with very low voltage drop. They use silver plated contacts that are held in strong contact by rigid plastic housings.

The Powerpole contacts we carry handle up to 30 Amps, which is sufficient for most ham radio needs. We sell sets with 1 red and 1 black housing and two contact pins, or you can buy individual red and black housings and contacts separately.

These connectors are preferred by many amateur radio emergency groups. See the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o31iuOcQ-jo.

Molex Connectors

Molex 1545-series 2-pin connectors are the standard low-current connectors for many different uses in ham radio such as hand-held radios, QRP transceivers, 12 Volt test equipment and various accessories. They can accommodate 14 to 20 gauge wire and can support up to 12 Amps of current.

We find that a special crimping tool is not necessary as many small pliers work well, but we do recommend crimping and then soldering the wire to the pins for a more permanent and reliable connection. A portion of the larger "wings" on the pins can be snipped off for smaller wire sizes.

Be sure to use: female pins in male connectors, and male pins in female connectors, per the ARRL/ARES power connector standard. The positive or plus conductors go in the angled conductor holes. The male plug goes to the power source.
