We Play in Lots of Different Ways
We truly believe in honoring children and championing play. This is the heart of our mission and is what has led us to create many more offerings and programs that expand our reach beyond just our four walls. We offer programs focused on Art, STEAM, Exceptional Families, and special play days at our Museums, as well as programs that extend beyond our facility like our popular Play to Learn program across Pierce County and Preschool Powered by Play.
Some Of Our Programs

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma, our flagship location, is a dynamic, play-based facility in the heart of downtown Tacoma serving over 140,000 people each year and is the first children’s museum in the nation to operate solely with Pay As You Will admission, which means that admission is by donation only. The Museum is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2025!

In partnership with Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), the Children’s Museum at JBLM is the first-ever children’s museum on a military installation and also operates with Pay As You Will admission. This new location builds upon relationships established through the Play to Learn programming on JBLM, and is designed to serve children and their families, with an emphasis on early learners, those experiencing special needs, and reintegration of our military into family life.

Play to Learn Pierce County is for parents, grandparents, neighbors, family, and friends who nurture children ages six and under. Thematic curriculum invites individual play, fun group activities, songs, and a whole group circle time for children and adults to enjoy together. We offer both virtual and in person programs – all free.

Greentrike Cares offers children, staff, and families easy accessibility to thoughtfully prepared, play-based activities. Knowing many children and families receiving treatment are focused on their journey to health, Greentrike Cares offers a resource solely centered on infusing fun and joy into their experience, helping them to process the big emotions that go along with their health issues and treatment.

The Monarch Diaper Bank provides free diapering supplies for families to pick up at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, the Children’s Museum at JBLM, and On The Go at Play to Learn.

Greentrike Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) connect Pierce County’s array of child and youth-focused programs, services, community partnerships, and curriculum-based efforts, to provide pathways to success for children and youth.

Sparks Activities allow children and their families to explore thematic concepts in art, math, science, movement, and more at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma and the Children’s Museum at JBLM!

Bring the whole family together to explore concepts of science, technology, engineering, art, and math, also known as STEAM, with a different theme each month!
