Add to the NMConfigData object information about global DNS configuration, which is loaded from user or internal keyfile upon object construction.
Modify the DNS manager to use the static global DNS configuration when available. In addition, change DNS plugins interface to accept a new argument for global configuration and add support for this new parameter to the dnsmasq plugin.

When deleting a master-device either via `nmcli device delete` or `ip link delete`, the slave-device would hang. This seems to be broken for a very long time already. This is due to the following: #0 0x00005555555f548c in nm_device_slave_notify_release (self=0x555555dc1300, reason=NM_DEVICE_STATE_REASON_NONE) at devices/nm-device.c:2175 #1 0x00005555555d6de2 in nm_device_release_one_slave (self=0x555555de3dd0, slave=0x555555dc1300, configure=0, reason=NM_DEVICE_STATE_REASON_NONE) at devices/nm-device.c:1117 #2 0x00005555555f02b7 in device_link_changed (self=0x555555dc1300) at devices/nm-device.c:1460 Previously, nm_device_slave_notify_release() being called with reason "NONE" did not actually transition the device-state, thus keeping the device wrongly in activated state. There were two callers that passed configure=FALSE to nm_device_release_one_slave(), (and thus reason=NONE to nm_device_slave_notify_release()): - (1) device_link_changed(): nm_device_release_one_slave (priv->master, self, FALSE, /*wrong reason NONE*/); - (2) nm_device_removed(): nm_device_release_one_slave (priv->master, self, FALSE, NM_DEVICE_STATE_REASON_REMOVED); We should always change the device-state during nm_device_slave_notify_release() regardless of the reason. (2) was added by commit c83b40a, later refined by commit 5dd48f7. In a way change the second fix to perform some of the configuration (but still not unenslaving the device).

Before the device is setup, we call nm_platform_tun_get_properties() without
a valid ifindex. That triggered an assertion [1].
Thereby, change nm_platform_tun_get_properties() to effectively clear
the tun properties when we are unable to fetch them. Also, never modify
the tun-mode of NMDeviceTun.

CID 59382 (#1 of 1): Dereference null return value (NULL_RETURNS) 10. dereference: Dereferencing a pointer that might be null value when calling strcmp. Not exactly true, since we ruled out the posibility earlier; but we could still get rid of a couple of strcmps.

As workaround, ignore the ndisc signal, if we currently don't have an ifindex. Also, recreate the NMIP6Config instances, if the ifindex doesn't match (or we don't have one). This workaround is probably good enough for the stable branch, as the code on main (1.35+) was heavily reworked and the fix does not apply there. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2013266#c1

As workaround, ignore the ndisc signal, if we currently don't have an ifindex. Also, recreate the NMIP6Config instances, if the ifindex doesn't match (or we don't have one). This workaround is probably good enough for the stable branch, as the code on main (1.35+) was heavily reworked and the fix does not apply there. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2013266#c1 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/1058 (cherry picked from commit 94215cd)

If the ovs interface goes away, the ifindex gets zeroed out and l3cfg is cleaned. Avoid starting ac6 in that case -- add checks similar to what we do for ll6. …oved_track()
We can get a platform signal for any number of reasons. In particular,
we can get a signal that the object exists in platform, while the object
is tracked as zombie.
"Zombies" are objects that we once actively configured, but now no
longer and thus need to remove them. We remember that we need to delete
the object in kernel.
The assertion was wrong. We don't need to handle the case "in_platform"
and linked in "os_zombie_lst" specially.

We can get a platform signal for any number of reasons. In particular,
we can get a signal that the object is present in platform, while the object
is tracked as zombie.
"Zombies" are objects that were actively configured by NetworkManager, but
now no longer and thus will need to be removed. We remember them as objects
that we need to delete.
The assertion was wrong. We don't need to handle the case "in_platform"
and linked in "os_zombie_lst" specially. If we get a signal that the
object exists while being a zombie, that is fine and not something to
handle specially.

When cloud-init job (metadata service crawler) starts, it sends the SIGTERM signal to nm-cloud-setup and force the nm-cloud-setup to restart, however, because the error is not initialized as NULL in `_init_start_cancelled_cb()` before it is set, nm-cloud-setup will hit a dumped core. TO fix it, initialize the error as NULL in `_init_start_cancelled_cb()`. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2027674 Fixes: ce0e898 ('libnm: refactor caching of D-Bus objects in NMClient') Backtrace: #0 g_logv (log_domain=0x7f833a872071 "GLib", log_level=G_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING, format=<optimized out>, args=<optimized out>) at ../glib/gmessages.c:1413 #1 0x00007f833a81f043 in g_log (log_domain=<optimized out>, log_level=<optimized out>, format=<optimized out>) at ../glib/gmessages.c:1451 #2 0x00007f833ab97230 in nm_utils_error_set_cancelled (is_disposing=<optimized out>, instance_name=<optimized out>, error=0x7ffff79cb980) at src/libnm-glib-aux/nm-shared-utils.c:2599 #3 nm_utils_error_set_cancelled (is_disposing=0, instance_name=0x0, error=0x7ffff79cb980) at src/libnm-glib-aux/nm-shared-utils.c:2590 #4 _init_start_cancelled_cb (cancellable=<optimized out>, user_data=0x5640ca292150) at src/libnm-client-impl/nm-client.c:7324 #5 _init_start_cancelled_cb (cancellable=<optimized out>, user_data=0x5640ca292150) at src/libnm-client-impl/nm-client.c:7307 #6 0x00007f833a93094a in _g_closure_invoke_va (param_types=0x0, n_params=<optimized out>, args=0x7ffff79cbb40, instance=0x5640ca267020, return_value=0x0, closure=0x5640ca29d430) at ../gobject/gclosure.c:873 #7 g_signal_emit_valist (instance=0x5640ca267020, signal_id=<optimized out>, detail=0, var_args=var_args@entry=0x7ffff79cbb40) at ../gobject/gsignal.c:3406 #8 0x00007f833a930a93 in g_signal_emit (instance=instance@entry=0x5640ca267020, signal_id=<optimized out>, detail=detail@entry=0) at ../gobject/gsignal.c:3553 #9 0x00007f833a9a6475 in g_cancellable_cancel (cancellable=0x5640ca267020) at ../gio/gcancellable.c:513 #10 g_cancellable_cancel (cancellable=0x5640ca267020) at ../gio/gcancellable.c:487 #11 0x00005640ca1a8bd4 in sigterm_handler (user_data=0x5640ca267020) at src/nm-cloud-setup/main.c:599 #12 0x00007f833a819d4f in g_main_dispatch (context=0x5640ca268ef0) at ../glib/gmain.c:3337 #13 g_main_context_dispatch (context=0x5640ca268ef0) at ../glib/gmain.c:4055 #14 0x00007f833a86e608 in g_main_context_iterate.constprop.0 (context=0x5640ca268ef0, block=block@entry=1, dispatch=dispatch@entry=1, self=<optimized out>) at ../glib/gmain.c:4131 #15 0x00007f833a819463 in g_main_loop_run (loop=0x5640ca24fdb0) at ../glib/gmain.c:4329 #16 0x00005640ca1a6d04 in nmc_client_new_waitsync (cancellable=0x5640ca267020, out_nmc=0x7ffff79cbfa0, error=0x7ffff79cbf98, first_property_name=0x5640ca1b11db "instance-flags", first_property_name=0x5640ca1b11db "instance-flags") at src/libnm-client-aux-extern/nm-libnm-aux.c:129 #17 0x00005640ca1a3863 in main (argc=1, argv=<optimized out>) at src/nm-cloud-setup/main.c:639

Usually we anyway require systemd-resolved to resolve the hostname for connectivity checking. Only systemd-resolved provides a per-interface API. Without it, connectivity check (together with bumping the route metric has problems). Anyway. If we had no systemd-resolved or it failed, we would just call libcurl. That would then try to resolve the name, using with whatever backend it has configured. Usually that means it was using the threaded resolved, which calls blocking getaddrinfo() libc API. libcurl has a bug that can cause the process to block, waiting to join the resolver thread: #0 0x00007ffff781fb27 in __pthread_timedjoin_ex () at /lib64/libpthread.so.0 #1 0x00007ffff7c0ac9a in Curl_thread_join () at /lib64/libcurl.so.4 #2 0x00007ffff7c0d693 in thread_wait_resolv () at /lib64/libcurl.so.4 #3 0x00007ffff7bf9284 in multi_done () at /lib64/libcurl.so.4 #4 0x00007ffff7bfb588 in curl_multi_remove_handle () at /lib64/libcurl.so.4 #5 0x000055555574adc3 in cb_data_complete That's not acceptable. Resolve the name ourselves using glib's implementatin. If we fail, we no longer call to libcurl.

Without it, connectivity check (together with bumping the route metric) has problems. Anyway. If we had no systemd-resolved or it failed, we would just call libcurl. Testing WWAN connections through a Nokia Series 40 phone, addresses of family AF_PHONET end up triggering an assert() in object_has_ifindex(), just because object_type_from_nl_object() only handles AF_INET and AF_INET6 address. In order to avoid this kind of problems, we'll try to make sure that the object caches kept by NM only store known object types. (fixup by dcbw to use cached passed to cache_remove_unknown()) (backport by dcbw) https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=742928 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyACM0 nm-pppd-plugin-Message: nm-ppp-plugin: (nm_phasechange): status 5 / phase 'establish' NetworkManager[27434]: <info> (ppp0): new Generic device (driver: 'unknown' ifindex: 12) NetworkManager[27434]: <info> (ppp0): exported as /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/4 [Thread 0x7ffff1ecf700 (LWP 27439) exited] NetworkManager[27434]: <info> (ttyACM0): device state change: ip-config -> deactivating (reason 'user-requested') [70 110 39] Terminating on signal 15 nm-pppd-plugin-Message: nm-ppp-plugin: (nm_phasechange): status 10 / phase 'terminate' ** NetworkManager:ERROR:platform/nm-linux-platform.c:1534:object_has_ifindex: code should not be reached Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. 0x00007ffff4692a97 in raise () from /usr/lib/libc.so.6 (gdb) bt #0 0x00007ffff4692a97 in raise () from /usr/lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x00007ffff4693e6a in abort () from /usr/lib/libc.so.6 #2 0x00007ffff4c8d7f5 in g_assertion_message () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 #3 0x00007ffff4c8d88a in g_assertion_message_expr () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 #4 0x0000000000472b91 in object_has_ifindex (object=0x8a8320, ifindex=12) at platform/nm-linux-platform.c:1534 NetworkManager#5 0x0000000000472bec in check_cache_items (platform=0x7fe8a0, cache=0x7fda30, ifindex=12) at platform/nm-linux-platform.c:1549 NetworkManager#6 0x0000000000472de3 in announce_object (platform=0x7fe8a0, object=0x8a8c30, change_type=NM_PLATFORM_SIGNAL_REMOVED, reason=NM_PLATFORM_REASON_EXTERNAL) at platform/nm-linux-platform.c:1617 NetworkManager#7 0x0000000000473dd2 in event_notification (msg=0x8a7970, user_data=0x7fe8a0) at platform/nm-linux-platform.c:1992 NetworkManager#8 0x00007ffff5ee14de in nl_recvmsgs_report () from /usr/lib/libnl-3.so.200 NetworkManager#9 0x00007ffff5ee1849 in nl_recvmsgs () from /usr/lib/libnl-3.so.200 NetworkManager#10 0x00000000004794df in event_handler (channel=0x7fc930, io_condition=G_IO_IN, user_data=0x7fe8a0) at platform/nm-linux-platform.c:4152 NetworkManager#11 0x00007ffff4c6791d in g_main_context_dispatch () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 NetworkManager#12 0x00007ffff4c67cf8 in ??
