Two days on from snowy Sunday with a lovely sunny springlike day today
Last Thursday and Friday were just as nice so as I wasn’t working either day I spent some time here plotting along! I didn’t do much Thursday as I started the day with a headache which was slow to clear so I pondered and pottered.
Friday was a much better day. I started by taking my new feature
to the site in the car then using a borrowed wheelbarrow to get it to the right place, which is just about the centre of the plot. I wasn’t sure that I’d even be able to move it let alone lift it but the third Weetabix that I had for breakfast made all the difference! It’s about 12″high, 15″square outside and 9″ inside. Now all I’ve got to do is decide what to grow in it. Any suggestions?
I dug in a few plants that I dug up from the so-called garden outside my flat including this lychnis
, and some periwinkle (vinca major)
and yellow fumitory (corydalis lutea)
both of which I like, but I know do tend to be rather rampant if left alone. Earlier in the week I put some aquatic weed and a plant into the pond along with a few taddlers, which I got from my plot neighbour Lesley’s pond. The unknown flowering bulbs I mentioned recently are some kind of narcissus
Today I was happy to see a handful of ladybirds sunning themselves on the original log, which presumably they’ve made their home. The good weather is forecast to last another couple of days so hopefully on Thursday I shall finally get to plant some onions and potatoes, and do some much needed weeding in one of the planned flower patches.
Whimper. I want some of that. Some of the flowers, some of the weather, some of the planter, some (lots) of the gardening. I want, I want.
Whimper.
At least it’s raining as I write this. Maybe some day there will be gardening here, too.

My dad is growing snakesheads… he says that is what you call them and I am not going to argue with him. :o) The weather is surreal at the moment with no days alike. Today has been positively spring like. We are definitely going to do a little veg patch and sweet stemmed flowers for my rabbits. If you can’t beat them… build them their own food supply!
Simplelsie – Hello ! How nice to see you here at Flighty’s plot… I wonder if we can entice him to put the kettle on and crack open the kitkats? :o)
(FeatheredEnergy as was….many moons ago!) xx

Simplelsie hello again! I really do feel for you.
I’ve actually done very little in recent weeks as it’s been far too wet. There are plots on a nearby site that are waterlogged!
I’m sure that once you can garden you’ll be making the most of it! xx

As you say it the weather is all over the place!
Good for you! Do let us how you get on.
Kettle’s on and I’m rummaging around for the KitKats! xx

Yes! snakesheads! Grown from little shoots and they do look very nice, they almost look sorry.. :o)

Daffy I must say that I’m not that struck on them myself. I think that’s because I prefer to see the faces of flowers. xx

Quite pretty 🙂 I used to have an area full of vinca just like that. It makes nice ground cover.
So far, the only plants I see are the beginnings of the day lillies.
Thank you for the linkage, btw. 🙂

It’s looking almost dry, which is surprising given how wet the snow was.
I spent the afternoon weeding and it was blissfully sunny. Haven’t found any ladybirds yet though, so maybe it is warmer where you are.

Lisa I see vinca everywhere here, both the green leaved and the variegated.
Once it does warm up and stays lighter longer everything will start appearing!
You’re welcome! xx

Ellie it does here but below the surface it’s sticky. I’m lucky as other nearby plots are almost waterlogged!
I shall be doing that on Thursday, which looks like being a warm sunny day.
I was surprised, but happy, to see them. xx

Now that’s more like it, although I did like the look of that lovely layer of white…but it stayed just long enough for a photo and that’s all that was necessary. I haven’t seen any suggestions yet for planting possibilities in your new stone feature. Getting it to the plot sounded like quite a cumbersome procedure. I bet you were glad to have it placed at last. Now, what to grow in it?
Vincas are pretty and they grow well here, too. Very interesting to hear about your new inhabitants, the taddlers…

PS ~ the narcissus is lovely ~ I can smell it from here 🙂

Ohhhh…an allotment, I would love one of those :o) Plot 124 looks uncannily like somewhere I know incidentally, any clues?

Glo just long enough for a photo was all I wanted!
It was about as heavy as I’m able to lift so it needed a bit of thought and care. What indeed!
I’ll check on the taddlers and let you know what, if anything, is happening.
I don’t have much sense of smell but I’ll give the narcissi a sniff tomorrow! xx

It’s looking beautiful there – I can’t believe the weather we’re having just lately! On my much-smaller-scale planting – I planted a few radishes a few weeks back (that look like they might be coming up – despite the snow!) and am thinking about planting some other things; I keep seeing the flowers around and am tempted – I know, I’m not really a flower person; but it might be nice to brighten up the yard a little bit.
Anyway, good luck with it all; hopefully our weather will settle down a little bit now
Catch you later

Gemmak hello and welcome! I don’t have a garden, which is one of my few regrets in recent years. Now I work part-time I have the time to devote to an allotment. I took it on last summer and it’s been wonderful, even though I’ve not yet grown anything! It’s also just a few minutes walk from home which is a real bonus.
If it wasn’t for the very tall trees at the end of the site I’d have a lovely view of Harrow-on-the-Hill less than two miles away!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! xx

M many thanks! I think that gardeners are fed up with the unsettled weather. I’m hoping to start planting tomorrow.
Even a few flowers make such a big difference!
Thanks, and fingers crossed that it will. Cheers!

We have had gorgeous weather yesterday and today. I have been busy in the garden this afternoon planting a couple of delphiniums and lupins, which I save from year to year. I think your mystery plant could possibly be a lychnis, I have a white and a cerise pink? I am very pleased that you have been able to get on with your plot. Just be careful with the Vinca, mine spreads like mad! x

What about Mr. Frog Morton? Have you found it in its pond? Is it save and sound? lol Hugs, my friend.

Gemmak I sympathise! I can hear that railway line from the plot but it’s hidden behind the trees! xx

Louise it’s certainly been a good couple of days. I like both of those, so perhaps next year!
Thanks, I think that you’re right so I’ll amend the entry. I’m well aware of what vinca is like! xx

Great view of your plot, Flighty! From your photo, it looked to be a perfect day to be pondering and pottering. Oh to be walking in those paths when the beds fill up with flowers and plants. I’m not sure what would do well in your new planter. Vinca will sprawl and likely overtake the edges and sides. I’m not familiar with the other two plants and how they’ll do in a small container.

Nikki thanks! It shows just about the whole plot except for a bit of your corner, which is behind the shed. At the moment I walk them and peer down hopefully for any signs of growth, even though I’ve not yet sown anything!
I wasn’t actually suggesting any of those for the feature, as vinca and corydalis are ground cover plants. Mind you the lychnis might do if I don’t find anything else.

When I went shopping today, there was a garden centre handy and I saw a pot of Calla Lilies that like sun. What do you or anyone else think of something like that for your feature spot?
