Dinosaur find resolves T. rex mystery
I have a theory about why t rex has such short arms (not addressed in this piece).
As we can see in todays animals, a female can hurt a male if his advances are not accepted. Female t rexes were a lot larger than males. A spurned male could become lunch.
Also in todays animals, you can sooth and put a croc to sleep by stroking his throat and belly.
There are several reasons animals have features. One is display - like a peacock has those display feathers to show other peacocks how big and beautiful he is. Or frogs can expand their throat to ribbit and attract mates.
One is defensive (or offensive, or both). Like an elephant will flap his ears, as a warning.
Or for cooling and heating - again, an elephant flaps his ears.
So why did t rex keep his short arms? He couldn't hold food and eat it, they wont reach his mouth. No good for fighting and worthless for balance.
So my proposed theory is males stroked the females throat and or belly to calm and sooth her, so he could have his wicked way with her and keep his life.

blog - neanderthals

http://goo.gl/j6sO0e Neanderthals blamed for pretty much anything bad in humans. Bad article in that it doesn't give any links to studies.
How many ways does this article -offend is too strong a word- annoy me? Let's count the ways ....shorten the rantCollapse )
Yay! It's up! I did it; chuffed!

Apr. 21st, 2008

i've been following this event since last december, when it hit the number 12 dead in 12 months. it's now 18 dead in 16 months. In this small town in wales, 18 people have committed suicide by hanging. All between the ages of 16 to 26. Some knew each other, some did not. Some were related (2 cousins killed themselves within a couple of days of each other), most were not. you have to take into account that this is a very small town - 130k people. That's like the size of Barstow, ca.
Each and every time the police has stated there is no relation to any of the other suicides. and I might actually believe that, if they hadn't ALL HUNG THEMSELVES. This last report doesn't say he hung himself. it says 'sudden death'; a sharp drop to the end of the rope can be called a sudden death, i'm thinking. A politician has stated he doesn't want the suicides 'glamorized' by relating in the news -how- they are dying now.
But think about it - the only suicides in a tiny community, and they are all hangings. How many people chose hanging as a way of suicide? would you say 18 out of 18, or 100%?
Me, Im doubtful.
Sounds more like a serial killer to me.

Just ... holy cow! I'm....stunned. This is so amazing. Chimps make and use spears.

Simon

Sadie, an eight-year-old Labrador who was trained in Leicestershire, has been awarded a Dickin Medal for her work in Afghanistan in November 2005.

Now, I'd heard of the Dickin Medal before, having watched the animated movie Valiant (what an educational tool!) and remembered that one of the current 62 awards was given to a cat.

A cat?

Yes, a cat. and I was like 'what? no self respecting cat would do anything in a war....they might defend their territory, if agressive enough like this little guy...but a war? come on! Someones yanking our chain.

So I went an looked it up.

1949: Simon - the ship's cat on HMS Amethyst during the Yangtze Incident, noted for surviving injuries from a cannon shell, raising morale and killing off a rat infestation during the incident. Rank raised to Able Seaman and awarded campaign medal

all cat lovers should read the links.

Every time I see this guys face, I get the creeps.
As a friend of mine would say: He probably just wants to sell you boy scout cookies.
Except he admits to killing his whole family.

Creepy guy.
