This Is So Overblown 🙄

I worked over 25 years in software development. In the beginning, I wrote most code from scratch, but during the last 15 years or so, I rarely wrote anything new. If I needed some new feature or function, I would start by searching for an example of something similar I’d written in the past, or alternatively, get on Google to look for some code to copy/paste. I’d then just need to change some variable names, security information, and other minor stuff to connect the code to my current application.
With artificial intelligence, you can now just describe what you’re looking for using English, then get the example code written for you. However, you still have to make all the changes to integrate it into your current app, and just like random searches in Google, there’s no guarantee the code is going to work or accomplish the specific task the exact way you want. Plus, you still need to be able to somewhat understand the code. Almost all applications are going to need modifications, bug fixes, and new features.
A.I.-generated code will get better over time, but it definitely will NOT replace the need for qualified programmers. Software stocks are getting crushed because of the A.I. hype. For example, Intuit, which makes software such as Quickbooks and Turbotax, is down over 30 percent in the last month. Would you trust A.I. to file your taxes, prepare your payroll, or disburse funds to vendors? 🤔
