CollectionSpace Commitment to Accessibility

Accessibility is an important consideration as we develop CollectionSpace to meet the needs of our users. We are working on improvements to all areas of the platform in hopes of making CollectionSpace usable and accessible for all users, including those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers.

How do we test for accessibility

With funding provided by Lyrasis, we contracted with Deque for an accessibility audit of the application in the fall of 2021. The 8.1 release of CollectionSpace will include several improvements to move us closer to an accessible platform. With each subsequent release of CollectionSpace, we will continue to seek opportunities to improve accessibility of the CollectionSpace application.

CollectionSpace Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)

Some organizations require a VPAT for software applications in use or being considered. In May 2024, Lyrasis assisted with the development of the first CollectionSpace VPAT. This VPAT is based on the 8.0 release of CollectionSpace. In March 2026, we issued an updated version of the VPAT based on the 8.3 release of CollectionSpace.

VPAT version 2.5 (created for CollectionSpace version 8.3) March 2026
VPAT version 2.5 (created for CollectionSpace version 8.2) October 2025
VPAT version 2.4  (created for CollectionSpace version 8.0) May 2024

We are committed to providing iterative updates to this VPAT with relevant releases of CollectionSpace.

An Invitation to Participate

We welcome feedback from you on specific accessibility concerns. Please email the CollectionSpace team directly at collectionspace@lyrasis.org to share CollectionSpace accessibility concerns. Please feel free to include screenshots and descriptions of desired improvements for consideration related to the accessibility of the CollectionSpace staff module. We thank you for partnering with us to make CollectionSpace accessible to all.

Thank you.

We thank our organizational home, Lyrasis, for investing in the commitment to accessibility. To demonstrate this commitment, Lyrasis funded an accessibility audit that served as a baseline for our accessibility work, development of the first VPAT, and is fully funding the development of the 8.1 release of CollectionSpace which includes work directly related to achieving WCAG 2.0 AA compliance.
