Hungary’s Orban Meets Trump Over Ukraine Peace Plan as Samantha Power Ferments Coup

Hungary’s President Orban met last week with former President Trump in another leg of his Peace initiative in trying to resolve the Ukraine conflict. This follows meetings with Putin, Xi, and Trump

Much to the EU’s angst,  and no less than Samantha Power, yes that Samantha Power who under the cover of US Aid has been doing her best to raise a coup and overturn his government.

Samantha Power has had a long, storied and blood-soaked career pushing the United States into wars in Libya, Syria and Yemen. And now the Biden-appointed USAID Director has set her sights on Hungary, a country she believes is just itching for US assistance in propping up the “independent” press and civil society. Which is all just shorthand for laying the groundwork for regime change.

But before I get to her hand in this, let’s get up to date with the situation.

Consider this the Cliff Note edition of what is happening in Europe. Just know, that Samatha Power is not happy. She has been wanting Orban out. Now we know why.

PEACEMAKERS: Orbán Writes to EU Leaders That Trump ‘Has Detailed and Well-Founded Plans’ to End the War in Ukraine

CNN reports:

 

“Orban’s letter, addressed to European Council President Charles Michel and sent to all European Union leaders, was written in the wake of his controversial meetings with former President Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“I can surely state that shortly after his election victory, he will not wait until his inauguration, [Trump] will be ready to act as a peace broker immediately. He has detailed and well-founded plans for this,” Orbán wrote.”

In an unprecedented snub, a spokesperson for the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU Commission will only be represented at the senior civil servant level during the meetings called by Orbán.

This letter is widely expected to further inflame tensions about Orbán’s peace initiative.

“’I am more than convinced that in the likely outcome of the victory of President Trump, the proportion of the financial burden between the US and the EU will significantly change to the EU’s disadvantage when it comes to the financial support of Ukraine,’ he wrote.

Orbán also said that after his recent talks with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, ‘the general observation” was that “the intensity of the military conflict will radically escalate in the near future.’”

“Responding to the leaked letter on X, the Hungarian prime minister’s political director, Balázs Orbán (who is unrelated), doubled down on the message bound to provoke Hungary’s EU partners. ‘Instead of copying the pro-war policy of the US, #Europe needs a sovereign and independent strategy with a focus on a ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations,’ he wrote.

[…] And in a statement likely to deepen alarm in EU capitals, he added: ‘We are convinced that – in political terms – we should use the entire period of Hungary’s EU presidency to establish the right conditions for peace negotiations’.”

Administrator Samantha Power travels to Budapest, Hungary from February 9-10 to build on the United States’ long-standing partnership with the Hungarian people. USAID recently relaunched its work in several countries in Central Europe, including Hungary, where programs support independent Hungarian partner organizations working to protect the rule of law, strengthen democratic institutions and civil society, and support independent media.

During her visit, Administrator Power will engage with Hungarian civil society and other leaders, independent journalists, young people building the future of Hungary, and the U.S. Embassy staff who work every day to deepen our partnership and collaboration with the Hungarian people.

Guest host Aaron Maté and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger note that Hungary under President Victor Orban has not gone along with the Western consensus on the Ukraine War and that no doubt has spurred Power to apply her unique set of skills to the task of bringing Hungary back into the fold.

Soros issues scathing statement against Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese stock market tanked last year. Major U.S.-listed Chinese stocks are down more than 60% since last year’s all-time highs and apparently has given Soros heartburn. His love affair with China has gone off the rails. Meanwhile he is pouring millions of dollars into our elections to turn us into a failed state. Lawless D.A’s and Secretaries of State that certify state elections are his first targets. So just what is on Soros’s mind?

Zero Hedge:

The year 2022 will be a turning point where much of the world will pivot sharply in the direction of either authoritarianism and repression or openness, and events in China will play a decisive role, said billionaire financier George Soros at a virtual event hosted by the Hoover Institution think tank on Jan. 31.

“2022 will be a critical year in the history of the world. In a few days, China, the most powerful authoritarian state, will be hosting the Winter Olympics, and like Germany in 1936, it will attempt to use the spectacle to score a propaganda victory for its system of state controls,” Soros, 91, said.

But he made a clear distinction between the CCP congress and elections in open societies with democratic legitimacy. Unlike the elections in France, Hungary, or the United States, the outcome of the CCP congress is seen as a fait accompli. Xi Jinping is widely expected to gain a third term as CCP leader through heavy-handed, coercive means.

Xi’s aggressiveness on the global stage would be quite enough by itself to make 2022 a year unlike any other. Complementing this foreign policy stance is a dictatorial approach at home that has progressively undone the tentative market reforms ushered in by earlier CCP leaders, Soros noted. Economic reforms initiated by then-leader Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s invited foreigners to invest in China and fostered economic growth that spilled over, for a brief time, into the reign of the current leader, he added.

In contrast to his predecessor, Xi Jinping has brought companies firmly under state control, come down heavily in favor of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) over private companies, and generally pursued what Soros called “total control.”

“This has had disastrous consequences. In contrast to Deng, Xi Jinping is a true believer in communism. Marx and Lenin are his idols,” Soros stated.

Chinese citizens have gotten the worst of both worlds under Xi’s rule, as authoritarianism has stifled many enterprises even while troubles in the real estate sector have swelled to dangerous levels based on what Soros called an unsustainable model. It is a system based excessively on credit, where people are now forced to start paying for apartments not yet even built, and subcontractors who have not been paid are simply ceasing to work.

 

 

Here is the longer version of Soros’s angst against Xi Jinping.

Billionaire George Soros urged China to replace Xi Jinping with a less repressive leader, citing Xi’s enemies within the party, a real estate crisis, ineffective vaccines and a falling birthrate as factors working against him. Soros made the comments Monday at an event sponsored by the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
