Canada and France? Governments Griped as Well in Chaos

If we thought the USA and its government was the only country that was under duress, think again. Canadians have about had it or at least making noises about their freedoms, and France is not far behind with their confusion. Here first with Canada.

Embattled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came under even more pressure to resign on Tuesday after his Liberal Party lost a “safe seat” in Montreal to the Bloc Quebecois.

Current polling suggests Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative Party would obliterate the Liberal Party if the election were held today. The Liberals fear a vote of no confidence could knock Trudeau out of office long before the next scheduled election in October 2025.

Lametti said he was “surprise[d]” to get booted from Trudeau’s cabinet. In January 2024, Lametti announced he would resign his Montreal parliamentary seat “with some sadness,” in part because was still hurt from losing his position as justice minister, and his confidence had been shaken.

The Montreal district of LaSalle-Emard-Verdun was considered one of the safest Liberal seats in the land, handing Trudeau’s party a hefty 20-point victory as recently as 2021. When the last ballots were counted on Tuesday, however, the Liberals lost a tight three-way race to the Block Quebecois.

Montreal delivered the second cataclysmic loss to the Liberals in three months after the astounding victory by Conservative Don Stewart in Toronto. Stewart took a seat that the Liberals held for three decades, prompting a great deal of anxiety that Trudeau had become an albatross for his party.

France is having its problems too.

Macron decided to have “snap elections” in June and it all went bad after that.

Impeachment proceedings against France’s Macron pass first hurdle
The bureau of France’s National Assembly has validated an impeachment procedure brought by hard-left MPs against President Emmanuel Macron.

NFP won the most votes in snap parliamentary elections in July, though it failed to secure an outright majority.

LFI has accused Macron of carrying out an “anti-democratic coup” after he ruled out choosing its pick for prime minister, naming veteran conservative politician Michel Barnier instead.

petition, signed by more than 300,000 people, refers to Macron’s “unprecedented authoritarian drift … in the system of representative democracy”.

And that is what is going on in other’s governments swamp.

The EU Elections Explained and the Results

The biggest picture of all

The European Parliament

by Mustang

The European Parliament, the world’s only directly elected transnational assembly, is a powerful entity.  Its members, elected by the citizens of the European Union, represent their interests.  Together with representatives of the governments of EU member countries, they shape and approve the laws that influence all aspects of life across the European Union—issues from the economy to mutual security.

The European Parliament also plays a crucial role in the election and accountability of the President of the European Commission and commissioners, approving the spending plan for the European Union.  European elections are held every five years.

While each European Union member state is free to conduct its election, some rules apply to each member state.  (1) Elections occur over four days, from Thursday to Sunday.  (2) The number of MEPs elected from a political party is proportional to the number of votes it receives.  (3) EU citizens who reside in another EU country can vote and stand for election in their country of residence.  (4) Citizens can only vote once in an election.

In 2024, 720 MEPs are elected (15 more than in previous elections).  The number of MEPs is decided before each election.  At most, the number of MEPs can be 750 (plus the president).  The number of MEPs chosen from each country varies.  For example, Germany elects 96 members of the European Parliament, France 81, Italy 76, Spain 61 — and so forth.  The countries with the least members of the European Parliament, six, are Cyprus, Luxembourg, and Malta.

National political parties contest elections, but once MEPs are elected and take their seat in the European Parliament, most become part of a transnational political party.  Currently, there are seven political parties in the European Parliament.

Elections involving the European Union are separate from national polls.

The European Commission

The European Commission consists of 27 members (one from each EU country), led by the Commission President, who decides who is responsible for which policy area.

The president of the European Commission (also known as the presiding officer or commissioner of the College of Commissioners, is the head of the European Commission.  The European Commission is also known as the College of the European Union and the European Union Cabinet.

The president is empowered to allocate portfolios among, reshuffle, or dismiss commissioners as necessary or desirable.  The college directs the commission’s civil service, sets the policy agenda, and determines the European Parliament’s legislative agenda.  The commission is the only body that can propose bills to become EU Laws.

The president is nominated by the European Council and elected by the European Parliament for a renewable five-year term.

The commission’s president also delivers an annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament.

The European Commission (EC) is the European Union’s politically independent executive arm.  It is the sole European institution that submits laws for adoption by the Parliament and Council to protect the EU’s and its citizens’ interests on issues that cannot be effectively dealt with nationally.

The Commission also establishes spending priorities with the advice of the Council and Parliament, draws up annual budgets, and supervises how money is spent.  Along with the Court of Justice, the Commission ensures that EU law is correctly applied in all the member countries.

The Commission speaks on behalf of all EU countries in international bodies, particularly in trade policy and humanitarian aid, and negotiates international agreements for the European Union.

National Elections

Each European country determines its national political scheme.

Example: In France, voters elect their president, legislature, and, at times, various referenda.  French citizens choose the French president every five years.  The parliament has two chambers: the National Assembly and the Senate.  The National Assembly (577 members) is elected for a five-year term, and the Senate (328 members) is chosen by an electoral college representing 96 departments, eight dependencies, and 12 seats selected by the French Assembly of French Citizens Abroad.  Each European country determines its national political scheme.

Note: The European Commissioner for France is not the President of France.

Macron Decimated by Le Pen’s Populists at Europarl Elections, Calls for Snap Elections

French President Emmanuel Macron calls for a sudden election after dissolving the National Assembly. Macron has said there will be legislative elections on June 30 and July 7. This is a reaction to his party’s loss to the far-right National Rally party in the European elections.

This after having to put up with Biden for several days. Add Zelensky and his push for ground troops. Interesting times. Here tis:

Le Pen’s populist-nationalist party got twice as many votes as the governing group of Emmanuel Macron’s globalist centrists in Sunday’s European Parliament election, prompting Macron to immediately dissolve the national parliament and call fresh French elections in a bid to regain authority for the remainder of his presidential term.

Shortly after President Macron announced he was calling fresh elections to buttress his position, National Rally (RN, Rassemblement National) leader Marine Le Pen took to the stage at her group’s election night party in Paris and declared their readiness to fight the snap election.

Hailing the progress of right-wing parties across Europe as the “dawn of a new day dawning for all the nations and peoples of Europe” and expressing her hope the result would finally comprehensively close “the painful globalist interlude which has caused the people of the world to suffer” Le Pen said it also confirmed the RN as the “great force for change for France”.

War Cry from Macron Over Ukraine – The Coming Conflict

All of a sudden Europe is concerned about Russia and especially Ukraine. The nervous nellies are thinking that their nemesis Trump might just win the election this fall thus the U.S. might not be as willing to step up and bail them out like last century. Just in case Putin decides to go big or go home… Putin threatened Nukes. It doesn’t hurt also, that Congress is making it clear that the U.S. is not the endless piggy bank and we are getting cranky about the whole thing.

It doesn’t hurt that Europe’s farmers are not a bit happy in having their farm confiscated or at the least restrictions that insure their bankruptcy. Attention elsewhere never hurts.

They sure laughed last time around with Trump and his advancing theory that Europe might just be on their own… because as he says, they should be.

At the least, the U.S. not contribute the lion share of their defense.

U.S. Paying 68% Percent of NATO, Increased 6 Percent Since 2021

The U.S. is by far the largest contributor to NATO’s budget. In 2023, the country accounted for $860 billion spent by the organization, representing 68% of the total expenditure. This amount is over 10 times more than that of the second-placed country, Germany.

Who knew? None of the press here in the States are reporting what’s going on. Only the foreign press.

Here are a couple of clips…

Hindustan Times: March 14, 2024

Then we have DW News- German Public Broadcasting Service

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė was in Berlin Thursday for defense and security talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Support for Ukraine’s war with Russia and German plans to station troops in Lithuania were on the agenda. After the meeting DW News spoke to Prime Minister Lithuanian Šimonytė.

Three weeks ago, The Guardian news out of Great Britain:

Four western leaders – the European Commission president and the prime ministers of Italy, Canada and Belgium, arrived in Kyiv on Saturday to show solidarity with Ukraine on the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

Ursula von der Leyen, Giorgia Meloni, Justin Trudeau and Alexander De Croo travelled to the Ukrainian capital together overnight by train from neighbouring Poland, the Italian government said in a statement.

Two weeks ago, – that should do it… Opec watch out . All those Euros can be confiscated anytime politics deem fit. Wreck the Euro..just like Biden wants to do to the dollar here in the States.

Just like Biden wants to do here with confiscating Russia’s stuff too.

Biden’s Plan to Fund Ukraine – Confiscate Russia’s Sovereign Assets

Let me cut to the chase: “There has also been concern among some top American officials that nations around the world would hesitate to keep their funds at the New York Federal Reserve, or in dollars, if the United States established a precedent for seizing the money.”

We are not talking freezing assets, but rather confiscating them. Something third world countries have done. The U.S. has never done this before.

The De-dollarization of the dollar could likely be the result if countries lose faith in the security of their funds. One step closer losing the dollar as the world’s currency.

Well, if all else fails, we have Canada with some good ideas too….this should lower the temperature.

Global News:

By now you have the drift. More countries are considering sending troops, if not to Ukraine, into the surrounding countries.

German Farmers Stage Largest Protest Ever; France Prime Minister Resigns

While the U.S. is heavily focused on the missing Secretary of Defense, the latest Sex lies and videotape of Clinton and assorted miscreants, we might want to gaze across the pond and take a look at what is happening there. Schwab and his “New World Order” are having a set back in Germany. The French? It appears that they would prefer being replaced by the hordes moving in, and are not happy about Macron’s move to the right with his coalition government if reports out there by the MSM are true.

Perhaps it’s Schwab’s pompous determination on how and who should live or die is finally catching on disfavor among the unwilling victims who seem to be awakening from their somnolence in Germany?  So maybe the “Great Reset” is being figured out as perhaps not so great.

The we have France and Macron, finding he too is running into a rough patch.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has resigned
Add German Scholz’s name to the list of the unhappy voters.
First Germany:

Farmers won’t accept the ‘planned famine’ engineered by Scholz’s inane climate alarmist policies.

The headline:

German Farmers Stage Largest Protest Ever, Blocking Roads All Over the Country – Movement Opposes Climate Alarmist Policies and End to Subsidies

German farmers are staging their largest-ever protest, with thousands of tractors blocking roads across Germany,  including in the capital, Berlin.

The farmers are demanding that the government abandon plans to cancel agricultural benefits.

The rallies are expected to last a full week, and among the first demonstrations across the country, several hundred tractors and other vehicles gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Deutsche Welle reported:

Farmers are demonstrating against plans by Germany’s government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the suspension of agricultural subsidies. The governing coalition is made up of Scholz’s Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens and the neoliberal Free Democrats (FDP).

On Thursday, the government announced that it would walk back some of the planned cuts to subsidies, which the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) considers to be an insufficient measure.”

In all the abundant MSM coverage, never it is mentioned the anti-globalist nature of the movement, rejecting the deranged crackdown on fertilizer use, as well as the targeting of over 3,000 farms to comply with the Climate Alarmist policies of the floundering Scholz coalition.

France’s Macron launches political reset with PM change

PARIS, Jan 8 (Reuters) – French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne resigned on Monday, as President Emmanuel Macron seeks to give a new impetus to his second mandate ahead of European parliament elections and the Paris Olympics this summer.

(The second woman Prime Minister of France’s equity choices bites the dust)

Macron did not immediately name a successor for Borne, who will stay on as a caretaker along with the rest of the government until a new one is formed, the presidential palace said in a carefully choreographed move.

The change was made after a year marred by political crises triggered by contested reforms of the country’s pension system and immigration laws..

All in all, our so called allies are having their own political battles.

The Dutch Government Falls Over Immigration, French Riots Continue…

Barely a mention about the Green agenda bringing the downfall of the Dutch Rutte government. The confiscation of 3000 farms apparently didn’t do it, but immigration did.

During provincial elections earlier this year, a populist pro-farmer party put Rutte’s party into second place. The defeat was seen as a possible incentive for Rutte to do his utmost to hold together his coalition until its term ends in 2025.

France? Things not going so well there either but first from the Guardian:

Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, has announced his resignation and that of his cabinet, citing irreconcilable differences within his four-party coalition about how to control immigration.

The decision on Friday by the Netherlands’ longest-serving premier means the country will face a general election later this year for the 150-seat lower house of parliament.

“It is no secret that the coalition partners have very different views on migration policy,” Rutte told reporters in The Hague. “And today, unfortunately, we have to draw the conclusion that those differences are irreconcilable. That is why I will immediately … offer the resignation of the entire cabinet to the king in writing.”

“Everybody wants to find a good, effective solution that also does justice to the fact that this is about human lives,” finance minister Sigrid Kaag, a member of the centrist D66 party, said before the talks began.

The discussions underscored ideological divisions in the coalition between the partner parties that do not support a strict crackdown on migration – D66 and fellow centrist party ChristenUnie, or Christian Union – and the two that favour tougher measures – Rutte’s conservative People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy and the Christian Democrats.

The coalition tried for months to hash out a deal to reduce the flow of new migrants arriving in the country of nearly 18 million people. Read more

European Union elects to move toward a Communist Utopia

This sums it up I think:

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage may be her biggest critic. Addressing the European Parliament, he said:

“What you’ve seen from Ursula von der Leyen today is an attempt by the EU to take control of every single aspect of our lives. She wants to build a centralized, undemocratic, updated form of Communism that will render [obsolete] nation state parliaments, where the state controls everything, where nation state parliaments will cease to have any relevance at all.

The French?

Zero Hedge gives us this headline:

French Riots Show That Decades Of Mass “Colonizing Immigration” Could Lead To “Collapse”, Says Former Head Of French Counter-Intel Agency

After mass riots during the past week shocked France and the world, the former head of France’s powerful DGSE intelligence agency says the root cause of his country’s tragic situation is above all “the dominant ideology, which has justified and even glorified the massive colonizing immigration that has been taking place over the last half-century.”

In a discussion about immigration on the public radio station France Culture last April, Brochand issued a warning which found its full expression in the week of violent rioting and looting that took hold of France after the shooting of a teenager of Algerian origin on June 27:

“If we do nothing or if we do little, we are going to head either towards a progressive implosion of social trust in France, that is to say towards a society where the quality of life will collapse and where it will be less and less pleasant to live, or, by successive explosions, towards confrontations that will make France a country where one will not be able to live at all.”

Now, in an interview published on July 6 on the website of Le Figaro daily newspaper, Brochand exposes, as Le Figaro puts it, “the deadly cocktail of a society of individuals based on openness and democracy and the arrival of entire diasporas with totally different cultural backgrounds.”

Here is an interesting take on the world in general of course blaming the U.S. for much of the instability.

Meloni Crushes Macron Amid Migrant Crisis

Giving our own nation away to the souther border invasion, this world is shattering before our very eyes, and the Press is only writing about Trump v. DeSantis. Meanwhile, Rome burns. Italy’s Meloni a voice in the wilderness.

It’s happening everywhere in Europe. In Spain, Soro’s open arms NGO has ships waiting in Spanish waters to pick up migrants coming from small fast boats arriving from Africa. They deliver them safely into a Spanish harbor. At the beginning Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish government president, used to roll a red carpet to welcome them while an army of journalists and cameras recorded the event to broadcast it in the news.

The usual virtue signaling of this bunch of hypocrites that are doing everything possible to destroy Europe in two generations. They follow diligently the globalist’s instructions. Historical nation States like Italy or Spain have to be deprived of their values, culture, heritage, history, language.

But Italy has a real champion.

According to the U.K. Express:

A diplomatic row between France and Italy erupted last week when Rome forced Macron’s hand to accept a humanitarian rescue ship, the Ocean Viking with 234 migrants aboard, after Italy had refused it a port for weeks.

The presidents of Italy and France sought to tamp down tensions over migration Monday by asserting the need for “full cooperation” on a host of issues and the importance of strong bilateral relations after days of diplomatic barbs over the fate of migrants crossing the Mediterranean. In response to Italy’s demand France accepted migrants from the Ocean Viking rescue ship, President Emmanuel Macron retaliated by suspending its participation in an EU solidarity pact to accept 3,000 relocated migrants this year from Italy and sent officers to reinforce its southern border crossings and prevent migrants from entering.

Apparently at least Meloni cares enough about her country to take on Macron.

No love lost.

It began as a migrant issue. What is going on in Europe is that assorted European NGOs sail ships to pick up illegal migrants from distant places like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Eritrea, and sub-Saharan Africa, at sea, ensconced on human-smuggling racket ships departing from Libya and serving as a kind of cartel taxi service, bringing the illegal migrants into Italian ports, which are the closest to the Libyan coast. Italy takes in tens of thousand of these illegal migrants, which is proving profitable indeed for the human smugglers, but costly to Italy, which must pay for their welfare and upkeep, as well as tolerate the crime, the litter, the sexism, and the stone-age sanitation practices, sometimes even tent cities.

The European Union has nominally vowed to share the migrant “wealth” by distributing the unvetted illegal migrants throughout the Eurozone, but many countries don’t keep up their end of the bargain, leaving Italy holding the migrant bag.

Will the New Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni Please Stand Up!

Let us not let the branding of the new Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni as some far right threat to the world go unanswered.   She has taken on the E.U. For her troubles, she is and will be under constant attack. After all in an earlier post this week her policies were threatened by the one and only European Commission head Von der Leyden

Italy Tells E.U. Head Where to Go – Elects Meloni, Defies Threats

European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen threatened Italy last week before their national elections. Von der Leyen warned Italian voters that the European Union has ways to deal with rogue states that represent their people and ignore the globalist agenda.

We have to ask just which one of these women is a threat to the world?

Giorgia Meloni

She straightens out Macron who is much in the need of straightening out.

Even her rival defies the description of her as the next Mussolini.

Former liberal Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi has dismissed alarmist claims in the global media that incoming Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is a “danger to democracy”, telling CNN “the idea that now there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news.”

“Personally, I was against Giorgia Meloni. I’m not her best friend. We grew up together in politics, but we are, and will be, rivals, always,” said Renzi, who served as Prime Minister of Italy for nearly three years until December 2016, and is the leader of the liberal “Italia Viva” party.

Elsewhere in the interview, Renzi mentioned that he is “exactly the opposite of Giorgia Meloni, because she is a sovereigntist and I’m for Europe” [the European Union].

The international media has been quick to compare her to wartime fascist leader Mussolini, a serious allegation. Yet as Renzi’s comments demonstrate, not even Meloni’s own opposition inside Italy believes this to be true.

Indeed, there are genuine neo-fascists in Italy — like Casapound — but they get so little support at the ballot box they have now given up contesting elections as a waste of time and money.

Europe: Are They Committing Economic Suicide?

Europe’s fertilizer plants are shutting down due to the high cost of natural gas.

We know what happened in Sri Lanka when fertilizer is not used in farming. Having just witnessed the chaos in Sri Lanka, it doesn’t take an economics major to figure out what happens to the food supply when countries don’t use fertilizer.

We posted yesterday that the Production of fertilizer is shutting down across Europe. The cost of natural gas has risen beyond the cost that companies can endure.

Natural gas in the U.S. is up a staggering 525% since closing at $1.48 in June 2020. Since June 2022 it has jumped 70 percent.

Europe is in the same dire straights. It is getting too costly to produce fertilizer. “Depending on the weather, it could be a challenging winter,” said Rob Thummel, senior portfolio manager at Tortoise Capital Advisors. “But not as challenging as in Europe. They are at risk of running out of natural gas. We aren’t.”

Attempts are made to blame Putin. But Putin isn’t the one that introduced sanctions. In fact he was willing to continue the exports. He was more than happy to give Europe all the energy that they required. Europe demanded sanctions. This is where the bizarre story begins: In an earlier post:

Ukraine Demands Everyone Else Boycott Russia While Still Raking In Billions From Russian Gas

Daniel Greenfield tells us the details at Front Page Mag:

Why is Russia paying billions to a country it’s invading that can be used to finance its defense?

Why would Russia put its economic lifeline and massive amounts of gas at risk by using a country that it’s currently bombing with all the adroit aim of a drunk in a toilet as a transit point if it could be easily replaced? Neither Europe nor Ukraine are prepared to kick their addiction to Russian gas. Putin knows it, which is why behind the scenes business is going on as usual.

Europe and Ukraine are asking Americans to make sacrifices while they keep on doing business with Putin.

Why is Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state owned gas company, continuing to transport millions of cubic meters of Russian gas to Europe each month.

One answer is that Russia continues paying billions to Ukraine to transport its gas.

Ukraine earns about $2 billion in transit fees from the Russian use of its pipelines to move gas to Europe. Russia, and Putin’s cronies in particular, obviously make even more than that.

Image

This morning Zero Hedge picked up a story entitled EU: Controlled Demolition   Authored by Raul Ilargi Meijer via The Automatic Earth, who had given thought to the very questions that are on many minds.

His salient observation:

And that’s not all. Fertilizer!! Why they do it, I don’t know. Do they WANT to kill their own economies? It makes no sense. And this will not be over soon.

Reuters of course seeks to blame Putin. But he’s not the one who introduced the sanctions. He’s offered to let the gas and oil exports continue.

I pick up his story. Well worth the full read:

The entire energy and food crisis is being sold as “inevitable”, but it is nothing of the kind. They are the result of choices being made in Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam etc., about which nobody has asked your opinion. Something I jotted down a few days ago:

Is the west using Ukraine as an excuse to commit mass economic suicide? And, you know, fulfill some WEF-related goals? Why else would they cut off all economic ties to Moscow, at a time when it’s obvious they have no alternative sources for much of what they import from Russia? Moreover, why does a country like Holland aim to close 10,000 of its farms when it’s crystal clear that that will exacerbate the coming global food crises?

If you don’t like Putin, that’s fine, but why should your own people suffer from what you like or not? And of course you can ask whether it’s a good idea that a country the size of a postage stamp is the world’s no. 2 food exporter. But it is. And if you try to change that by doing a 180º, also on a postage stamp, it is very obvious that is not going to go well. And all the so-called leaders know this. But they still do it.

:

…..

But now it’s starting to look like this was all scripted. Because “we” could have kept communication channels with Russia open, “we” could have negotiated for peace for the past 6 months. Not doing that was a deliberate choice. A choice that you and me, another “we”- had no voice in whatsoever.

The Dutch could have negotiated with their farmers, and slowly addressed their perceived problems with nitrogen oxides, while keeping food production going. And we could have found a way to keep Russian and Ukrainian crops available on world markets too. But it doesn’t feel at all like “we” wanted that.

Someone made a list of what EU won’t get anymore with the Russia boycott.: “nat-gas, rare earths, inert gases, potash, sulfur, uranium, palladium, vanadium, cobalt, coke, titanium, nickel, lithium, plastics, glass, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, ships, inks, airplanes, polymers, medical and industrial gases, sealing rings & membranes, power transmission, transformer and lube oils, neon gas for microchip etching, etc., etc.”

….

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell wants Europeans to be obedient little critters, and take the punishment for the policies he and his ilk have carved out. Because “we” are destined to win. Mr. Borrell is planing to do just fine this winter, mind you. With the best steak your money can buy, real fine wine, to be consumed in comfortably heated homes, restaurants and offices. A picture of Marie Antoinette pops up in my brain.

‘Weary’ Europeans Must ‘Bear Consequences’ Of Ukraine War As Putin Will Eventually Blink: EU’s Borrell

EU high representative and foreign policy chief Josep Borrell gave a surprisingly blunt assessment of the Ukraine war and Europe’s precarious position in an AFP interview published Tuesday, admitting that Russian President Vladimir Putin is betting on fracturing a united EU response amid the current crisis situation of soaring prices and energy extreme uncertainty headed into a long winter. Borrell’s words seemed to come close to admitting that Putin’s tactic is working on some level, or at least will indeed chip away at European resolve in the short and long run, given he chose words like EU populations having to “endure” the deep economic pain and severe energy crunch. He cited the “weariness” of Europeans while calling on leadership as well as the common people to “bear the consequences” with continued resolve.

The author takes aim at Macron and it is spot on

Talking of Marie Antoinette. Emmanuel Macron is the little man of grand vision. He foresees the ‘End Of Abundance’, a veritable “tipping point” in history. And he’s just the man to lead you through it. I’ll give him this: he’s got good speech writers. But speech writers don’t keep the people warm and fed.

Macron Warns Of ‘End Of Abundance’

France is headed toward the “end of abundance” and “sacrifices” have to be made during what is a time of great upheaval, President Emmanuel Macron told his cabinet on Wednesday upon returning from summer break. The country has faced multiple challenges lately, ranging from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine to the unprecedented drought that has battered the whole European continent this summer. Yet, Macron believes that the crisis is actually of a much bigger scale and that structural changes are imminent.“

Some could see our destiny as being to constantly manage crises or emergencies. I believe that we are living through a tipping point or great upheaval. Firstly, because we are living through… what could seem like the end of abundance,” he said. The country and its citizens must be ready to make “sacrifices” to meet and overcome the challenges they are facing, he continued. “Our system based on freedom in which we have become used to living, when we need to defend it sometimes that can entail making sacrifices,”Macron added

“Faced with this, we have duties, the first of which is to speak frankly and very clearly without doom-mongering,” Macron stressed. The president called upon his cabinet to show unity, be “serious” and “credible” and urged ministers to avoid “demagogy.” “It’s easy to promise anything and everything, sometimes to say anything and everything. Do not give in to these temptations, it is demagoguery,” the president said, adding that such an approach “flourishes” today “in all democracies in a complex and frightening world.”

There is a pattern in the messages of today’s Marie Antoinettes. Borrell wants you to take it lying down, Macron wants you to do that for a long time (like the rest of your lives), and the Belgian PM makes it more concrete: you’ll be freezing for the next 10 years. After which, supposedly, renewables will have been built to keep your kids warm. Spoiler: they won’t be.

Belgian PM: “Next 5-10 Winters Will Be Difficult” As Energy Crisis Worsens

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo might have spilled the beans about the duration of Europe’s energy crisis. He told reporters Monday, “the next 5 to 10 winters will be difficult.” “The development of the situation is very difficult throughout Europe,” De Croo told Belgium broadcaster VRT. “In a number of sectors, it is really difficult to deal with those high energy prices. We are monitoring this closely, but we must be transparent: the coming months will be difficult, the coming winters will be difficult,” he said. The prime minister’s comments suggest replacing Russian natural gas imports could take years, exerting further economic doom on the region’s economy in the form of energy hyperinflation.

How long will this last, you said? Well, according to AP, “Washington expects Ukrainian forces “to fight for years to come.” “Included in the package are advanced weapons that are still in the development phase..”

‘Months Or Years’ Before US Arms Reach Ukraine – Media

Years could pass before some of the weapons in the upcoming “largest ever” package of US military assistance to Kiev actually reach Ukraine, according to Western media reports. On Tuesday, a number of mainstream media outlets cited anonymous US officials as describing the impending announcement of a $3 billion package of military aid to Ukraine. If confirmed, it would be the largest of its kind so far. Washington is by far the biggest supplier of military hardware to Ukraine as it fights against Russia. However, some of the promised equipment “will not be in the hands of Ukrainian fighters for months or years,” according to NBC News, one of the outlets that reported the upcoming package. Included in the package are advanced weapons that are still in the development phase, it explained.

The same caveat was cited by the Associated Press, which said that it may take “a year or two” for the arms to reach the battlefield, according to its sources. Washington expects Ukrainian forces “to fight for years to come,” US officials told the AP. The AeroVironment Switchblade 600 drone is an example of a weapon system that was promised to Ukraine months ago but has yet to be delivered. Defense News said this week that the Pentagon plans to sign the contract necessary for sending 10 of the so-called “kamikaze drones” within a month. Last month, Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov called on foreign suppliers of arms to use his country as a testing ground for new weapons. He pledged to provide detailed reports about the experiences of Ukrainian soldiers with the prototypes provided to them.

The author concludes:

And there is no logical reason for this, there is only the ideology of a few handfuls of little men with grand visions. Hate of everything Russia has kept the west going for 100 years or more. And these little men feed off of that. They can only do that by refusing to talk. Because that’s exactly what Russia does not refuse. Only, they want to talk as equals.

The United States is one step behind Europe.

Trump takes Macron to task over NATO- NATO Defense Expenditure chart

Despite all of the chaos and controversy, Trump’s demands have resulted in more countries sharing NATO’s financial burden. In 2017, five countries met the goal of spending 2 percent of their GDP on defense and that has now increased to nine according to the alliance’s latest budgetary data.

The U.S. is set to spend over $730 billion on its military this year and it’s joined above the 2 percent threshold by Bulgaria (3.25 percent), Greece (2.28 percent), the United Kingdom (2.14 percent), Estonia (2.14 percent), Romania (2.04 percent), Lithuania (2.03 percent), Latvia (2.01 percent) and Poland (2 percent).

Despite the improvement, Trump still isn’t happy with spending levels and before he left for London, he reiterated his views that the U.S. is contributing too much, calling other alliance members “delinquent”. America’s allies fear the president’s stance could pose a threat to NATO’s survival and in September, then National Security Advisor John Bolton said that Trump could take America “full isolationist” if he wins a second term next November.

Statista

The time has come for others to do the heavy lifting in Europe and elsewhere. As if that is not enough, Europe refuses to take back their ISIS fighters retained in Syria. No doubt they figure we will take care of that as well. Good for Trump. His reward is to have the Democrats run their impeachment circus today.
