(May 2018) I have changed the purpose of this blog; see my post: Change of Purpose. Briefly, this blog is now meant as a guide for students working on writing their Ph.D. theses at PIDE. This blog is meant to provide guidance on the many aspects involved in writing a Ph.D. theses. The statistics on Ph.D.’s are horrifying — at Stanford for example, the median time for completion is seven years, which means that about 50% of the students take more than 7 years to complete their theses. Even worse is the case of those who never finish, even after putting in more than 7 years of effort — this is a true catastrophe to spend so much time, but get nothing for it. This guide is meant to prevent such tragedies, and to give students guidance on how to complete their Ph.D. theses in the shortest amount of time possible. There are many techniques we need to learn and use, and we will be discussing them on this blog. On Tuesday afternoon 8th May 2018, I had a meeting with students who have cleared their comprehensives and are now in process of choosing topics for their theses and preparing their proposals. A summary of this discussion, which provides some advice and guidance regarding the preparation of the Ph.D. theses, will soon be posted.
25th October 2018 – I am planning to collect material related to RESEARCH, in particular my video lectures and posts on this topic, on this website. As a FIRST STEP, I am organizing the materials in RM 2010 (Research Methods offered at IIIE, IIUI in 2010) on this website, with links to related materials. See also, original website: IIIE Research Methods 2013 and the most important, Central Website: IIIE Student Guide to Proposal Writing.
PREVIOUS MATERIAL — can be ignored
This website is meant to keep track of students currently writing theses under my supervision. It also lists theses completed under my supervision (THESES). It also list current COURSES that I am teaching, allowing my (and my students) to make posts and comments, to inter-act about the course. This blog is specialized: I will post course-related and pedagogical materials here. I plan to make much more frequent posts on my MAIN BLOG, which is An Islamic WorldView, on a wide variety of topics. All students are requested to join and participate.
