Even though I’m retired I have a schedule. I wake up 6:30 even though I don’t have any reason to be up that early. I go to bed at 10:00 p.m. . Sometimes I stay up if we’re watching something on Netflix or one of the other streaming services. Or occasionally if we are out at a bar or a show or something like that with friends I will stay up later.
I have a weekly routine as well. Mondays we go to Agua Caliente Casino. We have comps there for dining and Freeplay. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday. We go to El Guero’s for tacos, $1.49 a piece. Wednesdays we go to Augustine’s. We have comps there for free play as well and the restaurant has a good lunch menu, sometimes dinner. Thursdays are open. Sometimes we go to the casino and use the food comps when no one feels like cooking. Friday is pizza night. Yes I have a gambling problem but not really. We set our limits and it’s entertainment.
It’s not a very exciting schedule. But somehow when it’s interrupted it feels strange. Like if I have a doctor or a dentist appointment. Other times it’s wonderful if we’re on vacation in Hawaii for example. Or if we are in New Orleans.
Every once in a while things change. The neighbor invites us over for cocktails. We go out to dinner. Sometimes we go drinking again. Or just back to the house and drink. Now I sound like an alcoholic. But it’s really more about the friendship and the conversations. And it’s maybe once or twice a month.
I also do brunch on weekends with some of the neighbors. Catch up on the week’s events. Hear about each other’s health problems. How our family members are doing. The neighborhood gossip.
Also on weekends we look for something to do outside of the house. We go to festivals. Or we go to art shows. Or go shopping.
Basically a pretty dull and boring life. But timely and on schedule.

On Monday I visited the dentist to have my tooth prepared for a new crown. They put a temporary crown on, which is made of plastic. I was told not to eat sticky foods and try to chew on the other side of my mouth.
On Tuesday after breakfast the plastic crown came out in my hand. I immediately called the dentist and was able to get in the same day. The dental assistant put in a new plastic crown. Hopefully this one stays in until next Wednesday when I get my real crown.
I will try to eat more carefully and not use that side of my mouth. But this morning I forgot. I was reviewing health insurance and I got a little excited. And my mouth wasn’t hurting so I was eating on both sides. This was my mistake. Thankfully they were able to fix it.
As to the health insurance problem that remains to be seen how it turns out. So far it looks like I’m going to have to pay a lot the first 5 months of the year. After that my prescriptions should be free again. I was hoping there would be some changes in the price of some of my drugs. That way I wouldn’t have that upfront cost. But for some reason this year they’ve decided to give me a deductible on drugs. Which is approximately $615. Last year there was no deductible. Thank you Mr Trump.
I guess I should be happy I can afford it at least for now. I know there are plenty of other people who are going to have to give up insurance if the prices do not come down. Which means their health will be in jeopardy
It’s Taco Tuesday and I’m sitting here watching the news with anticipation. I think I can manage to eat them without losing my temporary crown again. But maybe the plastic will add flavor to my drink. Probably not in a good way. I hate the way plastic makes things taste. I prefer a glass. A glass crown, wouldn’t that be fun. But for on the top of my head rather than for my teeth.

An estimated 200,000 people attended the 4 days of Palm Springs Pride. The weather was great. It was actually a little warm out on the parade route. We gave it up before the end. My old bones can’t take that much standing around.

We went to D’Coffee for breakfast. It’s a fun little restaurant in Palm Desert. This was our first visit since they reopened in a new location.
Tragedy hit them a year or more ago. The building in shopping center burned to the ground. We lost several businesses to that fire.
It was nice to be greeted by the owner and see that business was thriving again. Most people who visit the area don’t get out to Palm Desert, but there are a whole lot of fun shops and restaurants if you venture out of Palm Springs. This one is a gem.

It was a nice day for walking about. But 93° is a little much in full sun. We stayed in the shade as much as possible. Tomorrow morning is the parade. I will post more photos after.
We have pride in November because it is unbearable here in June with temperatures in the triple digits, some as high as 120°. Old people, which is most of our population, would be dropping like flies.

I just figured out that I can talk into this and write my blog. Much easier than trying to type on this phone and it’s my stream of consciousness isn’t that fun. It doesn’t seem to get all the words right so I’ll have to go back and make corrections.
It really is quite a mess what it’s texting for me so far, but it’s worth a try.
Today I’m going to help the neighbor set up a new air purifier in her living room. When you’re the techie on the block you get all the calls. I guess it’s better than being idle all day long.
I went swimming and took a shower to get the stink off or chlorine I should say. Now I’m sitting here watching TV. The View just finished and it’s time for J Hud (Jennifer Hudson). She’s a little preachy for me but I like her. Interesting yesterday on the view they had Marjorie Taylor Greene. Still a liar, but it was interesting seeing her interact with the women on the view. They were actually kind to her. And she chose to agree with them on somethings. I still don’t like her. She can’t be trusted.
Rick is in the bedroom doing the bills. Not a very fun job. Watching the money go out. Car got fixed yesterday. Quite expensive. But we did manage to save an hour of labor. The mechanic we have is pretty good. I hope this keeps the car going for another few years before we have to buy a new one.
I used to always be in charge of the bills. But since we got married Rick does it all. And I don’t mind letting him. Which has left me with the laundry. And some lighthouse keeping. He cooks. I do the dishes. The chores are pretty evenly split. I guess that’s what make a good marriage. That and not staying mad at each other. Oh but we do argue. Who doesn’t? When it’s just the two of us here alone we have to argue with someone. Sometimes I get a break when he calls his sister or I call mine. That’s why we’re trying to spend more time with neighbors. And maybe go to the happy hour.
Just got back from setting up the neighbor’s air purifier. She just bought a little one that sits on the counter. Pretty simple to use. I hope it works for her she has allergies.
I’ve written a lot with this thing so far. Think I’ll end it now. Hopefully I have something to talk about later.
Normally, people make New Year’s resolution to get in shape and lose weight. I plan to tackle it now, before the holiday season with all the rich foods and delicious treats. Halloween beat me down. But I am getting back up. Hopefully my weight will go down.
I started swimming yesterday. We live in a Winter retreat. Swimming is year round here in the desert.

I know I need to keep active to lose weight. Eating less is important too. Both can be accomplished by staying busy with chores and exercise. When I am bored I need to find something to do, not go stare into the pantry or refrigerator.
This bird of paradise is a late bloomer. Me too.
It’s time for my morning swim. This afternoon there is yoga and some weight training. I can do this with a little perseverance .

So many little things are happening to me. They add up to a lot of drama and dysfunction. This leads to stress, which in turn leads to eating. We all know where eating leads. I have somehow gained 10 pounds since jury duty.
First was the jury duty itself and the back and forth to Indio Superior Court for two plus weeks. Did I make the right decision?
Next came the need to repair the car. It needs all kinds of stuff, including motor mounts. Who knew those were a thing? The bill is over three grand. It’s been in the shop now for two days. I had to take money from my 401k to cover it.
While I was at it we decided to take enough to pay for a credit card we had been over using all summer.
I got the withdrawal, but in the process I discovered my previous employer was changing the plan the 1st of January to go with a new company. So, I made the withdrawal and let the dust settle before rolling the remainder over into an IRA last week. The money went into some strange state called a settlement fund. Today I repurchased mutual funds in the new account. Now it is an “Individual Retirement Account” and my former employer has nothing to do with it anymore.
Also in the middle of all this high finance we had company from out of town. My office became a guest room for five days and I was stuck at the kitchen counter using a laptop. Guess what else is on the kitchen counter, Halloween candy. I was doomed.

Other stuff happened too. We went to the HOA happy hour Halloween party at the insistence of our new board member friend, Dave it was not a good time. We sat at a high top table with Dave behind a pole. When I went to the food table and attempted small talk with some of the neighbors they looked at me like I had two heads and ignored me. I went back to our table dejected and munched on more candy

Dave came to the house after and we drank and talked till 1 am. That part was okay.
We agreed to attempt another happy hour. Next time I will be more aggressive and mingle whether they like me or not. I may need some courage before heading over. Hell I am old. I can day drink if I choose. I need to do something to break into their little cliches.
Hopefully the car is ready tomorrow!
Oh and I almost forgot. The lovely Franchise Tax Board informed me my installment agreement was being cancelled and to please pay up. damn, I had already set my withdrawal in motion and had not included this amount. Several hours on the phone and the installment plan was back in place. It seems the was a glitch in the system. Since my payment went in on the 2nd and not the 1st of September they cancelled me. Hello, the payments are automatically made. The 1st was Labor Day and the computer system didn’t have that exception in place. At least it was an error I could understand.
I hope November goes more smoothly.
P.S. There was a good thing. My chair broke in August. I call the store and they were able to order a part and fix it for free while my company was here.

It was quite the street party. We walked around for about a half hour. Then our out of town guest wanted to hit the casino. Aqua Caliente is just 3 blocks away. Since this is 20 minutes from home we weren’t drinking. When we do we Uber.
Really this is too many people for me and the lines were long for beverages. Plus it was Leather Pride, hence explaining some of these pictures and the guys on stage.
