Head games

Posted in computers, health, Work with tags on June 23, 2020 by jefferyrn

Too many things stuck on my head.  I have glasses now because I am old and blind (for reading).  I have a mask for COVID-19 protection.  I have a wireless headset for my phone and computer (Microsoft Teams).  All of these things get tangled up together and create havoc on my face.  My mask either ties or has elastic that goes around to the back of my head.  I can’t use the ones that go over the ears because they flap my ears down and cause pain.  The headset is noise canceling so it has two muffs and a strap across the top of my head.  My glasses keep falling off when I adjust things so they now have a cord that goes around my neck.  If I am wearing a mask that ties those damn bows really are annoying. The new normal.

From happy to the dark side and beyond

I was hoping to give up sounding like Darth Vader but the numbers are up here in Nevada.  I can take my mask down when no one is near me (six feet).  That is what causes some of the frustration. Up down up down. Earphones on off on off.  Glasses off to remove the steam and then back on.  I need to invent something that handles all of this for me.   A headdress with built in glasses, headphones, and a mask.  Maybe headdress isn’t politically correct. Head gear that’s the ticket. Working from home was so much easier.

Bionic head gear.

Upgrade stress / healthy control

What a stressful last couple of weeks! The good news is there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Work has taken over my life. I did get to take a few days and go to Portland to recharge. It rained the whole time but it was still better than all the issues at the office.

I finally went to the endocrinologist. He put me on some new drug that are actually putting my blood glucose in the normal range. So far I have been using samples but today I have pick up my prescription. I am a little worried that the price is going to be prohibitive, but I need to continue.

We had a two week follow-up and he was very impressed. I lost 10 lbs and my levels were so good he doesn’t want to see me again for 3 months. He thinks we may be able to stop some of the meds at that time. This is a revelation to me. I didn’t know you could repair your pancreas.

The one drug makes me pee sugar. The other one is a hormone that helps me feel full and makes the pancreas produce insulin. Without getting too technical he says it’s like these little jets that squirt insulin and they lost their protective coating and stop working properly. Somehow this drug, which is an injection once a day, fixes that issue. I am sure it isn’t like that if you are a medical person you know, but it helped me understand what was going on.

The side effect is that I could lose 50 lbs. I can live with that, happily.

More stress at home this week. Our water heater stopped working. It was supposed to take a week to get the part but magically it started working again last night. It’s an Easter miracle. I do love long hot showers. We were going to have to use the one at the gym. Ugh!

Facebook nightmares

Gay Nerd Pride

I had a Facebook account but I closed it.  I told my family it was because I didn’t trust the security and privacy settings.  The real reason is that I was addicted to Farmville and I don’t need to know all the trivial information everyone wanted to share with me.

Funny thing, there was a way to share this blog and not one family member ever visited my site.  They were too wrapped up in their own little worlds to care what I was saying.   Plus I am old and boring so what else is new.

My partner has kept his page.  I just spent my lunch hour helping him post all the wedding pictures to his page.   Then I discovered that the photo app I bought had a link directly to Facebook that made the whole thing a lot easier.  It is hard to believe that I have so much patients for people here at work and yet when I am helping my partner with the computer it is like the clash of the titans.  I think it is because he wants it all to be so easy and I want to know what it is doing first.  So I am to slow because I read all the screens before clicking forward.  Of course, that is why I had to help him in the first place because he charged head and made a mess of things.

I guess the difference is that at work it’s not my stuff.  Also I know that I can recover things here and at home I don’t have all the same safeguards in place.

Anyway, it seems Facebook may have a use after all.  I will let partner continue to share.  Once a socially inept nerd always one, even electronically.

My thanks to a fellow blogger for the great graphic.  You can find the original posted here:
