Project Description

The SUBLIME – SDGs Unite Border Communities as Leaders of Inclusiveness, Mobilisation, and Empowerment project, funded by the DEAR Programme, aims to strengthen the role of Local Authorities (LAs) in promoting sustainable development in EU border towns and islands. These regions face unique challenges, including irregular migration flows, lack of recognition, and limited coordination, making their role in addressing global issues crucial.

The project supports LAs as non-formal Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) actors, helping them engage with citizens and civil society organizations (CSOs) to promote sustainable lifestyles, climate action, and gender equality. By enhancing public awareness, capacity-building, and cross-border cooperation, SUBLIME fosters inclusive societies and empowers local communities to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Building on past initiatives such as Snapshots from the Borders and the Border Towns and Islands Network (BTIN), the project emphasizes collaborative governance, policy-making, and citizen participation. Led by the Municipality of Lampedusa and Linosa, SUBLIME aligns with the European Commissionโ€™s priorities, ensuring that border communities play an active role in shaping a more interconnected and sustainable Europe.
