Nicosia Development Agency.

The Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL) was established in 2011 in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Following the Cyprus Local Government Reform in 2024, the Agency’s members are now all 5 municipalities of the city of Nicosia.

The Agency’s main objective is to support the member municipalities in the sustainable development of their area of intervention. More specifically, ANEL supports its members in generating their strategic development plans, finding resources for the execution of development projects and in implementing these projects. The Agency specialises in leveraging available resources from EU funding instruments or other sources of financing.

ANEL works as a link between its member municipalities and central government, academia, private sector and civil society.

The Agency, among others, undertakes initiatives on all sectors falling under the jurisdiction of its municipalities. Some examples of such sectors are: energy efficiency, resource efficiency, RES application, innovation, waste management, social policies, social inclusion and integration, smart cities, circular economy, climate change adaptation, sustainable mobility, cultural heritage promotion etc.

To achieve its objectives, ANEL designs and implements a variety of projects, specializing in interregional cooperation on European level.
