Project Description

The BIOPRO Regions project aims to enhance local and regional capacity to support sustainable production and consumption by promoting the exchange of good practices and collaborative learning among European territories. The initiative directly contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy, which seek to reduce the environmental footprint of food systems in Europe. In particular, the project addresses the following priority areas:

  • Sustainable Food Production
  • Sustainable Food Consumption
  • Sustainable Food Processing and Distribution

To achieve these goals, the project brings together a well-balanced partnership of public authorities and sectoral actors with diverse and complementary experience:

  • Three local or provincial public authorities: CIM do Ave (association of municipalities in Northern Portugal), Dalarna County (Sweden) and the Municipality of Tetovo (North Macedonia)
  • Three regional and innovation development agencies: ANEL (Cyprus), CTRIA (Hungary), and the Regional Development Agency of Backa (Serbia)
  • One representative of the primary sector: Agriculture Chamber of Dordogne (France)
  • One protected area management organisation: ALMPA (Lithuania)

Through a series of hybrid workshops, peer-to-peer exchanges, study visits and thematic seminars, the project will support the transfer of successful practices and governance tools aimed at improving agri-food sustainability at regional level.

In the medium term, BIOPRO REGIONS aspires to reinforce resilient local economies built on circularity, innovation and resource efficiency, supporting the development and sustainability of producers of organic and proximity-based food products.
