AG Bell and The Listen Foundation have established a professional scholarship in the name of Doreen Pollack, a pioneer in the standards of excellence in listening and spoken language. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist LSLS professionals in fulfilling the requirements for certification as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS™) in Auditory-Verbal Therapy (LSLS Cert. AVT).
Listening and spoken language professionals work in various settings, including private practices, schools, clinics, hospitals, and non-profit organizations. They assist families in the critical early years by coaching parents and caregivers to support their child’s language development at home.
At school, special education personnel (which include educators of the deaf, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, psychologists
and others) collaborate in designing the education plan for the child to ensure access to language and learning in the classroom. While some children may thrive with accommodations like FM/DM/RM systems and supportive teachers, those with significant language delays may require more extensive support and modifications to access the curriculum.
