Consulting

From family retreats to board facilitation to one-on-one coaching, our consulting services help families, organizations, and individuals align values, clarify vision, and take action.

A family diagram worksheet with handwritten notes, colored circles, and lines is laid out on a table with three colored pencils, a reference legend, and a brown card labeled Family Diagram.
Families and Individuals

We guide families and individuals to navigate the most human and consequential conversations about legacy, wealth, giving, identity, and more.

Organizations

We work with organizations to design strategies and launch bold initiatives to engage the next generation and strengthen collaboration across all ages, identities, and perspectives.

Speaking Engagements

We engage diverse audiences and networks with the goal to inspire reflection, spark conversation, and offer practical tools that are grounded in research, lived experience, and leading practices from the field.

Testimonials

“This is one of the few trainings available for family office professionals teaching how to meaningfully engage family members in values centered conversation. Using the tools and skills taught in Approach, our team is better equipped to assist family members in connecting passion to purpose and purpose to action.”

"While particularly helpful if engaging in multi-generational discussions of philanthropy, this training is applicable to anyone consulting in the philanthropic sector. It's a great session to learn about tools for facilitation and discovering your own voice and approach as a facilitator."

"The Picture Your Legacy cards are one of my favorite tools to use. I have found that the sharing portion is very interactive and insightful. One of the most interesting aspects is that even if the same cards are chosen, the stories and reasons are different. Having a visual aid helps people articulate their feelings."

"The 21/64 Virtual Approach Training is high quality and organized, and a great use of the virtual meeting space and peer network. This is one of the best, most useful trainings I've been in and that I'll actually use. I look forward to the next training opportunity to add layers of knowledge and tools to this base. Also, the group of individuals participating in the training was professional and qualified. There weren't stark differences in fields or experience levels, which I found helpful and made the experience more valuable in the time we had to learn and discuss the topics and tools."

"I am a big fan of the 21/64 method and find it extremely helpful within certain family groups. I purchased the Motivational Values and Picture Your Legacy sets for a family philanthropy meeting I was facilitating that included three generations, ranging from 11 years old to 75. I felt that it was a great tool to help bridge those generational gaps and give a common language to the group to be able to express the impact and change that the would like to see in the world through their collaborative efforts."

"I highly recommend this training, even if you are quite experienced in family meeting facilitation and client management. In addition to providing outstanding content, the training works on almost a meta level — not only are you covering the toolkits and techniques for facilitating family meetings in detail, but in addition you are able to observe skilled facilitators demonstrate these techniques in action as they work with the group. You are able to reflect about yourself and about the approach you bring to client work as you use the tools, and you are also able to learn from and share best practices with the highly experienced group of peers who attend the training alongside you. A highly valuable use of time!"

"I began using the Motivational Values cards as a part of my philanthropic advising work more than five years ago. I have used the cards with individuals, couples, families, small companies, and foundation board members to increase an understanding of personal giving decisions and create shared giving values for groups. Picture Your Legacy is a great tool to help donors capture the emotion of their giving. I use them together with Motivational Values, first the Values cards, which is a more left-brained exercise, followed by Picture Your Legacy, which is a more-right brained experience. Combined they are an awesome way to help donors better understand their giving." "Picture Your Legacy is a great tool to help donors capture the emotion of their giving. "I find 21/64’s tools to be so versatile. I’ve used their Values cards personally as well as in my one-on-one work with clients and in group settings, like Philanthropy Camp for Women. And then when you mix in the Legacy cards, you access a more intuitive place with the use of pictures instead of words, leading to a wider interpretation as well. Both lend themselves to deeper conversations."

"Thank you again for all your efforts last week with the 21/64 training. You are fantastic facilitators and educators! The work you put into the planning and execution for our session did not go unnoticed. After having a few days to reflect on our work together, I am more energized than ever to bring some recommendations back to the our leadership team. The ‘new’ approach with a more specialized cohort provided the perfect opportunity for networking, problem solving and collaboration with likeminded professionals. I anticipate this network will be of great value going forward as our office team evolves and faces new challenges. I would gladly attest to the remarkable experience 21/64 provides for family office professionals."

"In working with families of wealth I often am asked how to best engage the next generation. I am fortunate to have completed the 21/64 Approach Training and have the What Am I Inheriting? tool available to me. In one particular instance, I was able to sit with the parents and put together their family timeline. We then used this in a meeting with their adult children. Since the parents had initiated the discussion, the children felt comfortable asking questions about family events to their parents. They had a very robust, lively and fun conversation about their family. So much so that the children began to add items to the timeline that the parents were then able to ask questions about. What Am I Inheriting? provoked a heartening family conversation where everyone learned and shared together. Lots of good energy was created and the family is still seeing the positive impact today!!"

"I’ve started to incorporate the explore decks into a next gen internship program I lead. Each intern chooses a board member they want to interview at the end of their internship. The interns sift through the decks and pull out questions they want to ask, and the interview turns into a shared learning moment, a cherished memory with a family member, and a resource to share with the rest of their cousins."

"It’s never easy facilitating facilitators. I know for myself, and while facilitation feels natural to me, I have concerns on group dynamics, whether people will respond well to the material, whether folks will get the learning, etc. So if you had any of those kinds of concerns, I want to reassure you and say that I did not experience you leading from those concerns. I felt you all lead from your commitment to the work, to your plan and to providing us with the opportunity to grow, think newly or differently, and affirm what we know. Thank you."

"2164 has been the most positive and valuable professional development opportunity I have ever participated in. The continued added value through your posts and conference calls keeps the knowledge on the front burner and always fresh. I really appreciate you and your work."

"We have really liked using the Family Diagram in our Next Gen Donor Institute. It has been a great tool to help people uncover and share their own philanthropy story. As they draw “hearts” on their diagram to trace the source and pathway of philanthropy from the generous people in their family tree, they are able to see all different ways that they are connected to the “givers” in their family."

"We have found so many settings where it has been helpful to facilitate cross-generational conversation. Generational Personalities and the Generational Profiles leads the way to open up dialogue, understanding and connection. It is such a great, hands-on, interactive experience that ends up being a lot of fun for people. We love the creativity that we see happening as people diagram the different generations. We also have seen how the tool can help breakdown stereotypes about the different generations. We have found that facilitating these tools is beneficial in many different settings –at family meetings, with groups of wealth advisors, nonprofit professionals, and at conferences. We are excited to use it shortly with a local multi-generational Women in Philanthropy group."

"Thank you to everyone at 21/64 for a truly incredible experience, especially when considering the unique nature of virtual training and the world we are in. I can only imagine how quickly you've had to pivot to find a way to present a huge amount of information efficiently and effectively in a virtual environment (and in a field that thrives on personal connection). Thank you for doing it so well, and for leaving space for everything that we brought to the table during this strange season. During our time together, you executed a training and created a community that was valuable, refreshing, and affirming. I look forward to remaining engaged with the community and applying many of the lessons learned in my day-to-day."

"I enjoy using the Motivational Values cards because they are a great way to frame discussions around values. I've found that the simple, clean design of the cards invites participation from people who might otherwise recoil at the subject. There is nothing touchy-feely about the deck’s appearance or approach. When each person has his or her own deck, it can become a more private exercise. The matter-of-fact and updated design is straightforward and appealing. The Values cards are an accessible way to prompt important conversations. Highly recommend."

"Sometimes conversations about the most important things are the hardest to begin. I have found that the Exploring Giving cards offer a fun and accessible way to kick-start discussions that dismantle assumptions, create insights and show the way forward."
