It’s extraordinary. We watch on helplessly as Truss prepares to form a cabinet populated by misfits, failures, ideologues, third raters and opportunists to manage one of the greatest economic and social emergencies since 1945. A titanic constitutional and democratic failure.

I’ve lived in a Britain relaxed about its patriotism for 70 years. Now the government wants an Union Jack flown on every public building every day of the year - never done all my life.I deplore this Brexit Tory politicisation of our flag.Above all it could not be more unBritish.

RIP the European Research Group .RIP the Institute of Economic Affairs. RIP the Adam Smith Institute. RIP the Free Market Forum. RIP Lord David Frost and Allister Heath. RIP, in a few years time, Brexit. The long journey to a prosperous economy and sane polity can now begin.

It is surreal and disgraceful that Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer, as he tries to head off a public health disaster has to face off pig ignorant attacks from Tory MPs. In the real world we all heed what he says. Contemporary conservatives are unfit to govern.

Boris Johnson is contemptible- grinning from ear to ear after the 1922 Committee tonight, contemplating his manoeuvres may have landed him the Prime Ministership. He is a charlatan and a shit, not competent to run a whelk stall . He will split country and party.

4 years ago we awoke to the deadening news that Leave had won. Today we awake to the news that estimated cumulative excess deaths in Britain this year stand at 65,700 - more than total civilian deaths in World War Two. The talentless and the incompetent have triumphed.

We must keep saying this, and repeating this. The attempt by the British government in the middle of this pandemic to discredit, ostracise and delegitimise C4News,Newsnight and Good Morning Britain by refusing interviews is a democratic and civic outrage. We are all reduced.
No one from the government has appeared on @Channel4News for three weeks, and for the entire week we have not been given the opportunity to ask a question at the press conference. Extraordinary lack of engagement during a global crisis. #coronavirus

The decision to leave the EU will be ranked as one of the worst and ill-judged in our history. The UK PM should have been in Kyiv yesterday with Macron, Scholz and Draghi to back Ukraine joining the EU. Instead we are in an ethics free orgy of law breaking, isolation & decline.

What right has Novak Djokovic got to risk infecting other players, coaches , officials and staff at the Australian open? None. Of course he can refuse vaccination, but then he can’t play. In deporting him the Australian government has set a global example. Congratulations.

Watch this. Owen Jones says it all - in one minute and fourty seconds. Compelling.
This is still the finest dismantlement of Boris Johnson that I have seen in a very long time. This should be shared every single day until we vote on December 12th. #GE2019

There is so much to deplore about Brexit. But most deplorable is how the rupturing of a 45 year relationship and the trashing of the soul of our country is being driven solely to keep the Tory party together. So short-sighted and tribal. It will never be forgiven.

Boris Johnson asks in a mass mail shot who I stand with - the UK or the EU and Labour? I must join the Tory party to stop the EU carving up the union. What crap is this? These are friends, partners, allies in NATO. Not the Spanish Armada or the Luftwaffe. He is a national disgrace

I’ve never lived through such a noxious period of our national life, when anything decent or noble is being torched. Ethics. Propriety in government. Human rights. Upholding international law. The BBC and C4. Public appointments. Procurement. Decency. The barbarians run amok

This needs to be said over, over and over. Corbyn and his coterie, aided and abetted by Momentum, have betrayed class, party, country and Europe. Political ineptitude on a grand scale, Yes, the heavens wept today. One day it can and must be different. But without them .
