I congratulate Kenya’s President-elect William Ruto, who I look forward to working with to strengthen our 🇬🇧 🇰🇪 Strategic Partnership. Kenya and its leaders can be proud of the example it has set to the world: following a calm, peaceful and transparent democratic process.

Saddened to hear of incidents of some parents using free school meals vouchers for alcohol & non food products despite clear restrictions & also threatening supermarket staff. Am speaking to all supermarkets on what more can be done to protect staff and make sure kids get food.

Arrived in Chile on my first visit to South America to attend the Presidential inauguration of @GabrielBoric. A busy and exciting programme ahead, covering a range of aspects of 🇬🇧🇨🇱relations, including trade, sustainable growth, gender and culture.

I agree with @Iaindale - the protestor was carrying a bag, rushing towards the Governor of the Bank of England & could have been armed. Where was security???!! @MarkFieldUK has referred himself for investigation. If she’d been carrying a weapon we’d all be hailing him a hero
'Are we going to have a situation where any protestor can go into any room and disrupt any event with no consequences...' @IainDale gives his thoughts on Tory MP Mark Field who is under fire for forcibly removing a climate change activist at Mansion House yesterday.

Thought on broadband 1. John McDonnell says he wants to use public funds to subsidise a state owned company AND 2. He says wants to stay in EU BUT Doing 1. Would be illegal under EU state aid rules.... Can’t have both ...🦄

Tonight 55 MP stayed late into the night to support veterans and soldiers, to make the case for a statute of limitations to protect our veterans from spurious ancient accusations. 48 Conservatives 6 Unionists and 1 Labour MP - Shame

Nimefika Tanzania! I am delighted to be in Tanzania for my first visit here as UK Minister for Africa, and to launch our new education initiative #ShuleBora. I’m looking forward to meetings with government, civil society and business leaders on 🇬🇧 🇹🇿 cooperation.

Actually the UK is exempted from EU fiscal rules - I negotiated the exemption supported by a team from @hmtreasury led at that time by @George_Osborne. See article 8 eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/…. UK budget rules are for the UK to set and not “laid down” by others.
We need to replace the austerity budget framework laid down by the Maastricht Treaty with new UK budget rules that combine prudence with a pro growth boost to the economy as we leave the EU

I am horrified by the attack that took place in Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria 🇳🇬 today. The UK 🇬🇧 condemns those responsible. They must face justice for their appalling crime. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities affected.

A friend and colleague has been murdered while trying to help others. Please can members of the press back off, stop calling and respect the deep shock.

Offensive operations around the town of Abala in Ethiopia are hampering humanitarian relief efforts in #Tigray #Ethiopia. As I said to 🇪🇹 PM Abiy last week, I now say to the TPLF – fighting must stop and civilians must be prioritised

The UK & Uganda have a long history & a strong partnership. I met President @KagutaMuseveni today. Discussions included regional security and trade but also how we can ensure our foreign policy continues to deliver for both our countries.

So ... I’ve spent every day since the 2016 referendum working to try to find a deal with the EU that could work for all & to try to help heal divisions - genuinely believe that losing tonight’s vote will make getting a deal more difficult.

Important conversation with Ethiopian DPM @DemekeHasen yesterday. I expressed concern about impact of renewed conflict on humanitarian crisis in northern #Ethiopia and reiterated calls for a truce, restoration of humanitarian access to #Tigray, and for Eritrean forces to leave.
