Canceling my @nytimes subscription. I like the crosswords, but can't support an org that honors one of the most devastating criminals of his generation. It's a @nytimes event. Their President and CEO is appearing. It's a premeditated and deliberate and disgusting choice.

Bitcoin mining doesn’t waste energy. It keeps energy from being wasted.

    Now about those bitcoin miners…
BREAKING: Major leak from oil pipeline in Ecuador's Amazon happening in real time. Saw many of these in @Chevron's oil fields; they were rarely remediated. The oil and gas industry treats our ecosystem like a trash bin. Thanks @AFrontlines for exposing.

The order of capitulation. 1. Finance people are the first to admit they were wrong about bitcoin. Larry Fink, for example. In finance you have to pivot or be destroyed, no matter how much you've staked your reputation on your calls. 2. Financial journalists will get it next.

1/n I'm really proud of this report on bitcoin ownership. Our survey of 3,538 adults in the US found bitcoin ownership: -covers the full spectrum of political identity -is skewed young and male -correlates weakly with a unique profile of moral values -correlates strongly with

.@greenpeaceusa has shown no interest in actually changing bitcoin's code. Else, they would have hired someone to explore the technical options. (They haven't.) They would have worked with environmentalists within the bitcoin community to engender support for such a change, so

    1. Escape the fiat system of debt-fueled consumption and malinvestment forced by runaway money supply. 2. Mine bitcoin on venting methane and curtailed solar. 3. Defend 1 and 2 against YOU.

According to Cambridge, there’s enough flared gas to power 5 bitcoin networks, all while converting CH4 to CO2. CH4 is 80x as warming as CO2 over 20 years. CH4 is responsible for 1/3 of all warming. Huge win for the climate.

Three years ago, bitcoin dominance was 40%. Today it's 59%. ETH was 18% of total value. Now it's 10%. All other coins combined fell from 42% to 30% of total value. Meantime, there are millions of new coins, thousands of new coins launched each day. Something to think about.

The worst part of my bitcoin journey has been the depressing realization that many self-described environmentalists care more about control, about being right on the internet, and about punishing their enemies, than they care about climate justice and the health of our planet.
