When we extubated my brother, knowing he would die, we brought in his dog, put the dog on the bed, and after Jimmy was extubated, the dog licked his lips. My brother sat up for a second, smiled, and died

My dad died today. It was expected, but it’s never easy. He was the first Athabascan to get a doctorate. I got to go with him when he went to Omaha beach to salute his fallen colleagues some 60 years after the invasion. 98 years

Surgical masks: do not contain latex, do not cause retention of carbon dioxide, do not cause oxygen deprivation, do not exacerbate asthma - are recommended by every major lung organization especially for their patients at risk with pulmonary disease.

We have seen patients in our ICU going from 2-3 weeks on a vent to in 24 hours they are dying - clearly a new a disturbing variant

We are all tired of #covid19 - especially my patient who now is on day 25 of being intubated

Things this doctor won’t do right now: drink at a bar, go to a movie, eat in a restaurant, attend pubic events with strangers, be around people (besides family) who don’t wear masks. No barbershop, no choir practice, no gyms, no manicures

Some interns figure out - if they know the patient, not just labs - but their story, and something interesting about them - they get to do a lot more cases with me. "Oh that is Mrs Smith, nice lady, wants to get home to her birds." - sign the intern up for the whipple

Am I the only one who doesn't have a good feeling about opening things up?
