So many coaches feel powerless to tackle the prevailing culture in the way sport is provided for children and young people. The Children's Coaching Collaborative is a community of changemakers that believes that we can do better. Join the community at playtheirway.org/support-the-mo…

Boy does this resonate...a message for all the brave practitioners out there working at the fringes, taking research theories and exploring their application in the field and sharing experiences with others. Don’t let the #attackademic haters stop your journey of discovery.

β€œThe only pathways kids should be on until well into their teens are footpaths. The idea that a 12-year-old is on the pathway to a professional sports career is ridiculous and speaks only to parental obsession , not reality” from @ConversationEDU buff.ly/2IcwgNy

Gilbert Enoka on the mental health ethos of the All Blacks β€œPeople tend to think vulnerability and high performance culture don’t mix. That’s false … Accepting your vulnerability and having comfort in uncertainty is one method of managing stress” buff.ly/2oNEuRn

Wow! This is a brilliant article that perfectly defines β€˜talent that whispers’. β€œWhat about the kids who, for one reason or another, because of one perceived shortcoming or another, are getting labeled as two or three-star recruits?”

Attitudes to children’s education in Finland...β€œLet children be children” and β€œThe work of a child is to play.”....”Here, you’re not considered a good parent unless you give your child lots of outdoor play.” buff.ly/2KpRGrR

β€œWhy does a baker or a craftsman work through an apprenticeship of multiple years?” Isn’t it time we saw coaching as a craft and remodelled coach education like apprenticeships?

I’m going to propose a new definition of the term β€˜uncoachable’. Uncoachable; (verb) β€˜a term used by adults that are involved in the provision of children’s sport and physical activity to describe their lack of skill and craft at being able to engage young people effectively’.
    Replying to @stu_arm and @cam_jett
Have worked with a fair few kids now that most traditional set ups/coaches would have considered β€˜uncoachable’. It usually means β€˜they’ are not listening to β€˜me’ and doing what β€˜I’ want. These kids are now training and playing matches regularly. It’s not one size fits all
