Eric McCarty, MD, Named President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine for 2025-2026

Eric McCarty, MD, has begun his one-year term as President of AOSSM, following his installation at the 2025 Annual Meeting in Nashville. A leader in sports medicine, Dr. McCarty serves at the University of Colorado and as team physician for the Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado Avalanche. A longtime AOSSM member, he brings decades of experience and a commitment to innovation and member advancement.

AOSSM and Arthritis Foundation Award Landmark $500,000 Grant to Transform Shoulder Osteoarthritis Research

AOSSM and the Arthritis Foundation awarded a $500,000 grant to Michael Davies, MD, Brian Feely, MD, and Robert Tashjian, MD to study shoulder osteoarthritis. Their research will use advanced molecular tools to identify biomarkers and potential treatments.

AOSSM Announces the Frank and JoAnne Noyes Award of Excellence

Announced on July 9th at the 2025 AOSSM Annual Meeting, the Frank and JoAnne Noyes Award of Excellence honors top research in female athlete injury prevention and treatment. Frank Noyes, MD, and The Cincinnati SportsMedicine Research & Education Foundation have pledged $100,000 over ten years and the first $10,000 award will be given at the 2026 Annual Meeting.

Catalyst™ Research Mentorship Program

Led by AOSSM, AANA, and SOMOS, Catalyst™ is a new 18-month mentorship program for early-career sports medicine clinicians (2–7 years in practice), offering online learning, virtual sessions, and in-person collaboration. The program pairs participants with senior research mentors to build skills in study design, collaboration, and grant writing—culminating in a competitive funding proposal.
