- I'm not sure people in the US quite understand how horrible things are in major cities in India right now. All of us have friends, family, PhD advisees, etc who are desperately seeking medical attention for themselves/family. Shortage of hospital beds, oxygen, meds; heartbreakingThere had been warning signs since February. But caught up in triumphalism, hubris, mixed messaging and claims about exceptionalism, India let its guard down. Now it is in the throes of a public health emergency. - Back by popular demand**, here is the 4th Annual Rankings of Econ/related Phd rec letter submission systems. Slightly more systematic and less subjective than ever. Also, annoyingly, most ever schools in the F*** U category!

- On way to India after nearly 2 years, longest I’ve ever been away! Feeling same mix of anticipation and anxiety that I felt leaving India at 16 to study in Canada… Many hoops to jump thru before I get there so fingers crossed all goes smoothly
