1/5 This is a post about failure, triggered by recent discussions in the lab about how we talk about success but are not as transparent about failure. This week I learned that my HHMI application would not be considered further. Rejected. It was my last chance. I was devastated.

- Fascinating, identifying a melody just by the movement of the musician? Is this why live performances are so powerful?
- Replying to @ruimcosta5/5 Failure is part of science. This was difficult to write and am not even sure it is right to post it. I may regret it.
- So sad to hear about Krishna. A brilliant scientist that transformed his field, a great mentor, a generous human that touched family, friends and colleagues #thankyoukrishna @shenoystanford
- This is so moving! Motor memories take a long time to form, but they last, even in AD. #AlzheimersAwareness
- This is @bjmarlin who will start her faculty position next January @Columbia and @ZuckermanBrain showing true leadership and reaching out to others. Thank you Bianca! Your science and your voice make a difference. Every day.To Black Academics, โข (1/2)
00:00 - A historic day in neuroscience! These studies are a testament to what we can do when we combine team science, big science, and open science. Together we go farther. #studyBRAINย @HongkuiZengThe first cellular map of a mammalian brain is here. ๐ง โจ Over 6 years and 32 million cells in the making, the complete adult mouse brain cell-type atlas reveals astonishing diversity and regional specificity. - A must read! Literally mind changing... rothfelslab.berkeley.edu/2020/06/04/theโฆ
- Replying to @ruimcosta4/5 The point is to be transparent talking about failure, and how I feel after failing, to the colleagues in the lab, and to the more talented and deserving colleagues that may have had similar news.
- Racism and bias are so embedded in the structures of academia that this fight is a forever fight. Like fighting mud. Some days I feel hope. Others I just feel ashamed of who we became and what we permit. Us. Me. Crying of sadness, shame and rage at the same time.

- One year ago my friend, my mentor, Maria de Sousa, passed away with Covid-19. She was an amazing immunologist that changed science policy, started a graduate program, and a foundation to help young scientists. She wrote this poem days before knowing she had Covid-19. To friends.
- Replying to @ruimcosta3/5 The point of this tweet is not for people to feel sorry for me, or encourage me, or for me to overemphasize what is clearly a first-world problem even in science. I have had a very lucky and privileged path in science. I am ok and confident about the future.
