🗣️ #BlackInNeuroRollCall #BiNW22 I’m Bianca Jones Marlin, PhD! ✨The Marlin Lab @ZuckermanBrain @Columbia studies the neuroscience of parenthood — how parenthood changes the brain & how brain changes from stress are inherited. I also serve on the @BlackInNeuro Advisory Board!🧠

“We recognize that Nature is one of the white institutions that is responsible for bias in research and scholarship. The enterprise of science has been — and remains — complicit in systemic racism” - @nature • Wow. This lightens the load on my heart. ✨🙏🏾✨
We recognize that Nature is one of the white institutions that is responsible for bias in research and scholarship. We commit to working to end anti-Black practices in research. #ShutdownStem go.nature.com/3cSce7c

And we're out! 👏🏿 Marlin Lab's 1st annual Sabbatical week. A week at the end of the summer where I kick everyone out of lab to rest &/or do something fun. The goal: Recreation for Re-creation. Take a breather & reset before starting a new academic year 💆🏿🪁🧘🏿⛳️🏄🏿📚

The “self-advocacy in the form of a sweatshirt” struggle is real. I feel guilty using my ivy name to get ANYTHING. But when they see your ID and your health care CHANGES!?!? It turns from guilt -> anger -> sadness. Hopefully health care professionals reading this with share.
