When I was 17 a guy I was talking to at a gas station asked me why my car was so dusty, and I said it was such a POS it wasn’t worth washing.
He said to me “if it’s worth having, it’s worth taking care of” and it deeply shamed me and stuck with me to this day.

- My friend’s 10 year old daughter killed herself after being relentlessly bullied. She was a classmate of my niece in Roanoke. It is heartbreaking and unbelievable. 10 years old. The Bushman family wants to get this message out to help others. Cyber bullying is now 24/7.
- Talked to a shark tank contestant this week that received a deal from a shark. She said she never actually got a deal. She is in a Facebook group with hundreds of other “winners”, and only a small number ever actually did. It’s (almost) all just scripted entertainment.
- In 35 years we flipped the US map from manufacturing being the largest employer in most states to healthcare being the largest employer. Absolute shit trade. We need to flip the map back.
- We harvested 640lbs of honey this year. People always ask if we are selling it and I say no, we give it away to friends and family. Yesterday at Thanksgiving, each family left with a case of honey. My youngest brother said his son hasn’t been sick since he started our honey.
00:00 - Chamath is riding high these days. Popular podcast host. Cozying up to Trump and Elon. But he has never been held accountable or apologized for his INSANE grifting streak over 5 years. It was predatory, and it was wrong. A thread on @chamath the "SPAC King" 🧵

- Fathers to a son: please read this. We dropped my oldest off at college this week. He is 18. Totally ready to leave the house. Desperate for independence. This is the way it should be. But it has torn me up. Statistically we have spent 90% of all the time we ever will

- I once spent a week working on a factory floor in Guangdong China. They were making consumer goods. On the first floor they made curtain rod assemblies out of aluminum and plastic. I can’t remember what the other floors made. I just remember that it was loud and messy.
- Replying to @johnkonradWhy this is a cynical take! They are not all money-losing make-work projects for spouses! A small percentage of them are productive and make money (as fronts for money laundering)
- I once owned a home in Virginia Beach. Its elevation was 8ft above sea level. It was across the street from the ocean. The only insurance I could get was from Lloyds of London. It was very expensive. I was glad to have the option. Why was it expensive? Because the house wasPrepare for news stories about "evil insurers" that don't tell the whole story. Proposition 103 in California makes it illegal to accurately price fire insurance. Insurers can only use historical data, not projections. So insurers did the rational thing: they dropped customers
