No scheme is perfect, don't expect them to be. Listen to engineers, they are experts. Look for good evidence, don't dismiss it. And wait for trial schemes to bed in. My advice on when your roads change in @HamandHigh @london_cycling hamhigh.co.uk/news/ham-high-…

Outcome: “a community resolution order issued to the driver, who also agreed to pay compensation for the damage to the man.” @metpoliceuk @MetCycleCops seriously, how is this not assault or worse? IMO disgusting outcome for using car as weapon, worse, see the replies...

When this scheme in Orford Road #WFMiniHolland 1st opened, folks marched a coffin here predicting death of trade on this street. Several businesses here said losing parking out front would end them. That was 8 years ago. This was a mild March Sunday. Change is hard but worth it.
Lots of people walking, sitting and milling about on Orford Road in Walthamstow including sitting outside a pub and cafés. A sign says no motor vehicles in the foreground.

Went out for a meal in N London at a Turkish restaurant tonight with family. All around us folks of all colours & creeds tucking in. Laughing, smiling. Some in hijabs, some in bright dashikis, some in jeans and t shirts. This is multiculturalism in London. Glorious & tasty...

It's been a manic day @London_Cycling. I've missed my ride. I've barely stopped for water. I'm shattered. But it's LCC campaigning that has got us this, alongside other orgs. We can't let the cars just take over. And this is the first sign we won't. #StreetspaceLDN #NoGoingBack
London to get "one of the largest car-free zones in any capital city in the world". It's been a big news day. With @London_Cycling campaigning at it's heart. Here's the latest from @MayorofLondon @willnorman #StreetspaceLDN Plan: lcc.org.uk/articles/car-f…

This is one of most depressing threads in some time. £300 fine, 6 points on licence & £600 to get escooter back. As many comments attest, killing someone with a car will routinely be treated less severely. Roads justice & policing priorities are utterly broken. Disgusting.
The £300 ticket my friend Nick got yesterday when he was stopped on his e-scooter. He was riding on the road in London — I had warned him there are mass confiscations. This will also cost him £600 to get his scooter back from the pound, and SIX POINTS on his driving licence.

    1. Loads of folks sticking up for driver. There is huge issue with this that folks think this is a legitimate way to drive. 2. Loads of folks utterly unsurprised at the (lack of) consequences driver faces from police who once again essentially saying drivers & paperwork > lives.

Westminster Bridge plans to deal with terrorist vehicle attacks & provide safe cycling. Looking good. Really hope these move forward fast now. This plan should have gone in basically 3 years ago. tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safe…

It's so utterly bizarre to see Labour Cllrs paint LTNs as a class issue. Wait until you hear about how much cars cost & what too much unnecessary driving does to poorer people in terms of congestion, climate change, inactivity, road danger, pollution. @LabourCycles

"Large numbers will not get onto bicycles whilst driving behaviour that endangers them continues to go almost wholly undeterred.” Too right @MartinPorter6 Horrifying piece. Basically, cyclists' lives just don't count, still. Drivers get let off too often.

The removal of the Kensington High Street cycle tracks increasingly is transparently the work of anti cycling politicians pandering to anti cycling prejudice among some vocal residents & a handful of out of date business leaders. All the evidence & data shows the tracks worked...
In the week 21-28 Dec, what was formerly the eastbound cycle lane was blocked by parked cars for 63.6% of the time. On 29 Dec, the eastbound lane was blocked by parked vehicles for 81.6% of the time. Car journey times have increased too since removal. theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/j…

The level of hatred and rage being directed at cycling right now is quite terrifying. Talk radio shock jocks, cabbies, FairFuel and ABD campaigners alike appear to think it is OK to be openly abusive. Using words like "fascists" should be utterly unacceptable in this context...

'It's too hilly' = ebike. 'It's too far' = ebike. 'I'm not fit enough' = ebike. 'My knee is knackered' = ebike (often). Even 'weather' = ebike. Sometimes the big innovation is not the highest tech one. Ebikes > autonomous vehicles just as cycle tracks > moar roads.

Campaigners who moan (me included) listen up. - It can be easy, I know, to slip into attacking others, being outraged at tabloids & shock jock rants about cycling & active travel. But that is what they want. If you have not figured it out, tagging in or replying to them?... 1/12
